Appalling

Night 1 farm dog in cage barked all night. Nights 2 & 3 same problem with dog, then very noisy, heavy farm machinery working in the yard from 5am Morning of departure, (10am) ignorant man on lawn mower insisting on mowing as close as posible right round the van, dispite the rest of the field being in need of mowing & unoccupied. I accept that this is a working farm, but I do not accept rudeness and total lack of customer service. The only reason we stayed was because we'd booked diner in a local pub on evening 3and pre booked a trip to the Ness (which is amazing) on day 4. There are a number of other sites in the area which we will be using in future.

Lovely CL with nice views and walk into Orford

Being our first trip out in our caravan we were nervous about the single track Road entry but after calling the owner she was so lovely and put our minds at rest - she was right in that you can see a long way ahead and there were passing places making the arrival and departure issue free. Lovely CL, didn't see the owners. Didn't find the drinking water tap to start with - it was seperate to the waste disposal tap which someone pointed out to us and that was all good. We loved waking up and seeing the sheep in the field next to us and walking to the village, there's plenty of footpaths to investigate. Orford is just lovely and actually just down the road from where we live but it was good to spend a bit longer here and to be able to go into the warmth of the pub during the walk and actually relax rather than a swift half and dashing back home. If its wet take some wellies as the back roads are little country lanes. CL is just perfect.

Well located site

This is the nearest CL to the beautiful village of Orford. There is a pleasant public footpath from the site. The site is very small and is not an adult only site, therefore if children are staying there, they have little room to play without disturbing others. The views (we could see) are lovely, but as mentioned before, the trees and hedges have been allowed to grow so high, they blot out the morning and evening sun. It would make it so much more pleasant if this was attended to. We did not see the owner of the site at all. We did not find the bird scarer a problem, it could be heard in the distance, so may have been moved.

Lovely location

This site is in a lovely location with beautiful views and only about a mile to the water. It is on a working farm which is not a problem and I would give it full marks but for the farm dog.... This dog is in an outside kennel in the farmyard and barks on and off throughout the night, so if your after sleep make sure you take ear plugs! It’s such a shame because it could be the perfect site.

Great CL

Pros … * Quiet. * Large area. * Reasonably flat. * Good mobile signal on Three. * Lovely walk over the fields and along by the river to Orford. Jolly Sailor in Orford serves good meals. Chemical disposal at waist height. Reduced likelihood of splashing! Cons * About a mile of single track road to get to the CL. Tall trees on the (roughly) East and West sides of the CL. Depending on where you pitch you can either have the morning sun or the evening sun. No tap by the chemical disposal for rinsing out toilet. Occasionally heard a bird scarer in the distance but only during the day. We loved this CL. We’ll be back.

Lovely Location

This is a lovely quiet small field perfectly positioned for a walk along Orford Ness. The ferry from Orford Ness only runs in the summer, you can walk from Aldeburgh on to the Orford Ness spit partly but when we visited in January the spit itself was shut so not to disturb wildlife. Lovely site, interesting area

Excellent cl

We found this a quiet site, 20 mins walk into Orford along a lane or a footpath through fields. Yes there is a distant bird scarer but not till after 8am and this is a working farm! Payment is left in an envelope in the back porch of the Hall. A signpost to the camping field would be useful. The water tap is easy to find now! We will certainly return.

Bird Scaring bangs!

As previously said by others a great site, well kept, but we left a day early ( after paying for 5 nights) due to the very, very loud bird scarer. This was positioned right opposite the site the day before we left at about 5.00, you could even see the flame in the dark. It went off every 30 mins making us jump & worrying the dog. At 10.00pm we phoned the owner & complained he said he would get his son which he did. This one stopped but the other one not so close went on through the night, this did not worry us. It started up again the morning we left which meant we made the right decision to move off. Orford is lovely & you can walk or cycle there, good food & beer at the pubs as well as a great Saturday country market well worth a visit.

The view is no longer so visible

We love Orford, so this site is perfect for this, as we can walk or cycle to the village with ease. We have been coming for some years, but sadly the view, we so enjoyed from the site, over the fields to Orfordness is being lost by the uncut hedge to the left. Also the tress to the right are now so tall they block the evening sun. This will not stop us coming to the site, but attention to these things would make the stay much more pleasant.

A Good Base

We stayed for 1 night in July. We thought the site was as peaceful as you could expect for a working farm. It makes a very good base for exploring Orford and the surrounding area on foot or bicycle. It did take a little while to hunt down the drinking water, which was well disguised in the hedge, and it is worth having the right money in cash for payment as we did not see the owners at all. Location suited us perfectly and we will be back.
