Peace and tranquility

Convenient for Orford and Orford Ness with views across open fields to the Ness. The site is adjacent to the Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route. Well maintained in a peaceful location adjacent to a working farm. Great pub, cafes and village shop within walking/cycling distance so good for motorhome owners. Hands off approach by the owners suited us.

A Pleasant Peaceful Site

We like Raydon Hall. It's an extremely quiet site with peaceful views of farmland with sheep, etc (which suits us fine) and a short walk (10 mins) from Orford itself with its quay, boats, castle, church, etc. There is a great pub in the village (The Jolly Sailor) which has been revitalised by new owners and which sells good meals and excellent take-away fish & chips at certain times. There is also a well-stocked traditional rural village store where the prices are very reasonable, togehter with a coffee shop, etc. Orford Castle is well worth a visit with stunning views from the top. Access to other areas of the Suffolk coast such as Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Walberswick, Lowestoft, Southwold, etc., and in the other direction the Felixstowe area is very reasonable by car bearing in mind the essentially rural nature of the area. Ipswich is within easy reach by car. We have returned after our initial visit - and will return again. Owners appear very 'hands-off', which suits us fine. If you want to get away from it all for some peace and quiet, you could do far worse than consider Raydon Hall. Booking is recommended, especially during the main season as its 'regulars' frequently return. Access with the van is quite reasonable.

A good traditional CL

Nice CL on working farm not too are from the farm itself. Everything works as it should but elsan disposal is quite primitive, not the worst I have seen though. Owners are very hands off which I like. Nice flat field with good views, walk into the village is well worth it, go to the fish restaurant near the Castle.

I would recommend Raydon Hall but could do more

Raydon Hall is in a very nice location and only a 10 minute cycle ride to Orford which is fabulous.Nice quay with a cafe and sun deck, fresh fish caught locally and sold from the hut I bought a skate wing which I pan fried in my motorhome....delicious. Visit the square, castle, an other villages its all good. As far as the CL is concerned, I vissited late JUly 2012 and this is my first visit to a CL so I wasn't sure what to expect, but these are my findings. Accessed down a long single track road proved no problem, good visibility to any oncoming. A working farm with lots of activity. Regrettably I did not meet the owners and left my fee in cash in the envelope provided in the letter box upon arrival. I did visit the toilet opposite the house which I wasn't sure if it was for the farm staff or for CL visitors but in any event I found it not to be clean and tidy and the washbasin was dirty as well. I do like a clean loo if nothing else! but as i say not sure if its use was for the CL. There was plenty of space which could be used to install a shower unit at a modest cost which in my view would add greatly to the CL. Nice field and well drained with electric hook up which is good, fresh water tap and rubbish disposal which was overflowing and needed emptying before my arrival. Overall good but would be better if the points I raised were considered and a little TLC. Enjoy
