A favourite for years but can be mismanaged at times.

This is a quiet CL tucked away down a private lane in a field next to Raydon Hall farm. There are views across the fields to the river, where you can just see the tops of masts of moored boats, and it is and easy walk to the lovely village of Orford, with a castle, pubs and restaurants, a couple of shops and the river and quayside. Also there are very interesting trips to Orford Ness, the preserved military complex and lighthouse. All very pretty and picturesque. It would help if the pitches were numbered, however, as the space is quite limited and some owners don't always pitch sensibly so as to share the space and views. Several times we have been and there have been 6 outfits on the site - when queried with the owner he has pleaded confusion over bookings. There isn't really space for 6, especially as when we visited this time we counted at least 8 dogs on site! Despite this, we will return as the good points outweight the bad ones for us!

Site in pleasant position and quiet.

Pleasant site though why 2 hook ups in middle of field seems a bit odd.  Fence panel  round disposal site still needing attention after three visits.  In all sites visited, 50 odd, this is the only one where we were not greeted at any one time, payment has to be left in the porch and there is no contact or welcome at any time from the owner.  Dissappointing not to meet and greet so to speak.  Very noisy at harvest time but it is a working farm and site is very near the working area and farmhouse after all.

Quiet and Peacful

This site was a pleasure to be at being both quiet and peaceful as it is an arable farm with lovely views out over the river with the owner leaving you alone to get on with your brake. Plenty of places to walk the dog as well as the owner especially towards Orford which is picturesque with a Norman tower to visit. Highly recommend the Jolly Sailor. We heard no lorry's and the dogs only barked if you entered their area i.e. the farm yard, though the traffic might be heavier in the autumn.

Little Beasts!

We have just got back from 9 nights here. The weather was glorious apart from the last afternoon and evening when it bucketed it down. We raced back from Saxmundham to get the awning down just in time. We very rarely saw the owners and felt that a notice giving telephone numbers for nearest A&E, Dentist and Vet would have been useful. The site rather oddly has two of the hook-up points located in the middle of the available space, so just watch out when reversing! As stated in previous review there were farm dogs who did bark on occasion, at what we were not sure. Farms, are however, working places, so do expect some machinery moving around at busy times. There is lots to do and see in the area, we went on a lunch trip on The Lady Florence, which takes you for a 3.5 hour journey with comentary up and down the river with lunch included. Not particularly cheap but very enjoyable. Also can highly recommend Orford Ness, Orford Castle and for those of you with dogs The Jolly Sailor near Orford Quay is dog friendly. However, a little poem to warn you of the Beasts in our review title. The Raydon Hall Gnat is a futive beast, Small of size but, Ohh, what teeth, Carefully he lays his trap, And waits for you at the water tap! I got very badly bitten the first night of our stay and so did someone in an adjoining van. Long trousers very definately when filling up the Aquaroll!

Not so peaceful !!!

Stayed 4 nights early Sept 14. This is a lovely location, short walk to Orford village and quay. CL itself is fine. As others have said this is attached to a working farm - this is where we had a different experience to others. The days (while we were on site) were blighted by lorry deliveries/collections of material to the farm and with JCB type vehicles scraping their shovels across the concrete slab to load/distribute whatever it was. Started at 8 in the morning some days and was ongoing when back at van 4-7pm. IT WAS A DIN!!! Second noise issue - At night the farm dogs are kept in a caged compound in the same yard area. THEY BARK ON AND OFF ALL NIGHT. The people either side of us had dogs with them and they commented on the noise and were thankful that it didn't start their dogs barking.  If I visited again I would enquire about the farm activities for the planned visit beforehand. Good luck, and take your ear plugs!

A little gem!

Spent three nights here in May as recommended by a friend. What a lovely place,so peaceful and quiet apart from a few tractors on the working farm. Just a fifteen minute walk away was the lovely village of Orford with beautiful cottages a castle and a lovely tea room down by the quay. Just a short trip across the water by ferry was Orford Ness home to lots of bird life, this we have yet to see so will be going back soon.

Perfect Place for Peace & Quiet

We have been to this CL approx. 30 times so I guess we quite like it and it is our regular bold hole for short weekend breaks. A perfect CL with hands off owners, infact I never met them until I had been coming for 18 months! you just leave your money in an envelop at the back door and pitch where you want. Please do this sympathetically as you can easily get 3 vans on the front of the field with views to the coast. Often we find people pitched with big windbreaks and cars in such a position as to restrict this. Field is always well kept and clean and tidy. In Orford you have the best corner shop in England 2012, the best Suffolk bakery 2012 and a local butcher with superb meat and a fresh fish shed on the quay selling line caught cod only a few hours old ! You may even see a BBC presenter, a doctor Who or even an Avenger kicking around ! Wildlife on the site can be abundant with barn owls, buzzards, kestrels, once had a muntjac deer and young in the hedge and even a weasel pops its head up from time to time!

For walkers there are paths abundant in the local area both inland and coastel and not to mention the fascinations of Orford Ness

Off the beaten track

This is a lovely site to get away from the rat race, we think the village has a few holiday homes in so could be very quiet in the winter months, if you are looking for a relaxing time away look no further

A very good site for Orford Ness

This is a very nice rural peaceful site. it is run in a very hands off way but this is a busy working farm. The farmer's family are really ce and friendly. We agree with the better reviews below. We went to Orford Ness and it was quite exceptional and thought provoking.
