South Lodge, Cardiff....Autumn Visit.

This grand site had 5 large, level, terraced Hardstanding pitches, with EHU, having views to the north and Cardiff & beyond to the east, while being sheltered by a couple of small copse of trees to the south and west. There is a large estate adjacent where one can walk ones dog, provide there's no stock in the fields. The site is easily accessed being about 3 mls from the M4, just off the A48. A little care is need when approaching the right-hand turnoff, 3/4 ml from a set of traffic lights, as the road is dual laned so it's imperative to be in the outside lane. Should one overshoot there's a narrow lane on the left which can be taken, drive to the end turn right and that take one back to the A48 and so back to the site's turnoff. On arrival you are left to your own devices and the owner calls in the evening. At the traffic lights, mentioned above, there are a couple of retail parks with shops and food outlets including a Tesco Superstore, an Lidl and a large M&S. There's lots of places of interest within easy driving distance, including Castel Coch Caerphilly Castle and Dyffryn (N/T), and of course Barry Island. For those that want an extra bit or retail therapy there is a MacArthur Glen Shopping Outlet at Bridgend, about 8 mls away. The site has good TV and phone reception and although the site lies close to the busy A48 it is nice and peaceful. We will certainly be returning to this fine CL as there's much more to find to do in the area.

Brilliant CL

This is what is CL should be with just the basics & hook ups. If you want showers, toilet's etc. go to a club site, & leave the CL'S to real caravaners

The best CL ever

I am really reluctant to review this gem, because the more people that go there, the slighter my chance of getting a pitch. As CLs go, this one has it all.

a few days away

Really good, but basic CL, no one was around when we arrived so pitched up and we were left alone to enjoy the peace and quiet, eventually found someone to pay for the pitch, the photos are spot on and the site is quiet, a little difficult to find as the Traherne Arms has permanently closed so travel directions need updating as where the Traherne Pub was is now the longhouse, road access is narrow, so be careful if towing large outfit. Really enjoyed this location we will be back

Peaceful, private and nicely laid out little site

Spent 4 days here end of March. Easy to access, almost flat as a pancake, individual slate gravel hard standings with EHU. Small area for Taps, refuse, CDP and Grey water.Excellent Mobile phone signal as the mast is across the road. Bus stop not far up the main road, and other buses down the road at the Interchange (and large retail park) Road can be busy at rush hours. Enjoyed our stay. Thank you South Lodge.

lovely site

we arrived here on the 17/02/2017 , it was a beautiful day the site is all hardstanding with electric points to all pitches , TV and phone reception is excellent , as the TV transmitter and 3 phone transmitter are only half a mile away , shops are only 5mins drive away with the largest M&S store I have seen in my life at Culverhouse cross , Tesco is only 5 mins away and Aldi and Lidl about 10 mins away , the site owners are very nice and welcoming , it was my first visit and I will definitely be returning ,

Oops

What a lovely find, even if by mistake. Arrived and were welcomed, stayed overnight, lovely & peaceful with lots of room to walk the dog. After good night's sleep, discovered we were on the wrong site & no room to stay longer. Will certainly book to stay in the future.

Super break

Lovely site that has many return visitors. Very clean, well kept and with terrific views either across Cardiff or across beautiful countryside (or both views if sited to see both). Extreme care must be taken upon approach up the hill. We were unlucky enough to encounter an aggressive boy racer type who took exception to the fact that I was holding him up just as I approached the lane. Be sure to prepare to turn right just after the Traherne Arms. Other than that, the site has a very easy approach even for a large outfit. Super hard standings with own electric points. Clean and well kept disposal area. Will definitely return later in the year.

Had a wondful weekend

All though this site may seem a little expensive as no toilet block / shower. the views, lay out, friendly hosts, well maintained site and with Barry only a short trip down road made for an enjoyable weekend.

Visiting Cardiff.

This site is well situated for visiting Cardiff and is neat, clean and tidy. The pitches are large and on hard-standing although the site itself is not terribly large. The views are lovely. Access is good but be careful not to overshoot the entrance.
