Wonderful site. The owners were exceptionally welcoming, with a hot drink for us both on arrival. Never had that before. Helpful, maps provided and advice on tap. Beautiful clean site, easy access to the facilities. Will go back for sure. A definite 10/10

great cl

the Firs is a great cl and Penny and Mary go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay. we were greeted with a cup of tea after the brother came out to meet us as we could not get access due to the roads being closed due to road works. Penny supplied us with a forest of Dean map which was very thoughtful. the toilet and elsan point were first class and the fresh water point was very convenient. the site felt very secure as it was next to their garden. You cannot go wrong if you intend to visit the forest of dean and the surrounding area.

Peace in the Forest

A warm welcome, with a nice cuppa, and such a peaceful place. At first we thought the road might be a bit noisy at night but not at all, all quiet by mid evening. We enjoyed meals out at the Miners and the Orepool Inn, both within walking distance. Very convenient for access to any part of the Forest or Wye Valley. Hardstandings not quite level so blocks advised. We will plan on a return visit!

Lovely CL

Exceptionally high standards for a CL site, well situated in The Royal Forest of Dean. Peaceful site set in well maintained grounds with a summer house/info room with indoor and outdoor seating areas and an amenity block with chemical disposal, recycling and a clean toilet and wash hand basin. Penny and Mary were very friendly and helpful. If the weather had been kinder, it would have been nice to have spent an hour or two relaxing outside the van after spending many hours exploring the area. We did not see any wild boar at the site, but saw at least twelve at Parkend and then again in the Forest. Stayed from 21st August for 3 nights.

Super friendly CL in The Royal Forest of Dean

We spent 4 super nights here at The Firs, an adult only CL in The Royal Forest of Dean. We were warmly welcomed by Mary and Penny on arrival and offered coffee as we set up. As novice caravaners this was a great place to stay and have a “shake down” trip in our recently purchased caravan. The 4 hard standing pitches were taken when we booked so we had the one grass pitch with EHU which was perfect for us, reasonably level, just needing the jockey wheel to level up and with more space and privacy. It was also closer to the newly built toilet, separate sluice room and recycling facility, all of which we used. A shower is also planned in future. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts who also maintain a well-stocked information centre in the summer house including maps and brochures. Penny also brought us with a jar of homemade yellow raspberry jam, delicious on our toast at breakfast. The CL is sited next to a Community Conservation Zone, a joint venture with Forestry England. We saw Green Woodpeckers and Buzzards overhead and at night, heard owls screeching. Occasionally Wild Boar come onto the CL, which are quite harmless and regularly seen in The Forest. Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood Forest, Secret Forest and Perrygrove Steam Railway are all within (a good) walking distance. Coleford is a couple of miles away and you can get everything there you’d ever need for a great holiday. There’s also two caravan dealers nearby if you need any spares, advice or service etc. Several local restaurants and takeaways offer deliveries to the CL and a local pub is open. The Firs is in the heart of the Forest with superb walks readily accessible. We walked along the Offa’s Dyke Path from a free car park (The Park Nature Reserve) on the A4228 to the Devil’s Pulpit overlooking the impressive ruins of Tintern Abbey and visited the NT property and woodland walk at Kymin at Monmouth. Nagshead Hill RSPB Reserve, also free parking, just a couple of miles away near the hamlet of Parkend is well worth a visit where we saw Fallow Deer, Wild Boar and lots of birds. Our drive to Cannop Pools gave us an interesting insight into the industrial heritage of the area enclosed now by dense forest. So what’s not to like about The Firs which is a gem in the heart of this fascinating area of outstanding natural beauty.

Superb site.

Easy to find. Superb reception on arrival, with the offer of coffee etc. A beautifully maintained site, the owner obviously takes great pride here. Chemical disposal point is one of the best we’ve seen. A little road noise could be heard, but is outweighed by all the other benefits here. Penny also invited all visitors to pick some plums before leaving. On one evening all visitors were invited to join Penny at the garden seating area. A most enjoyable experience, a good time was enjoyed by all. We would recommend this cl to all members of the Club, and Will definitely return.

Absolutely Fabulous CL

Absolute gem of a site. A fab greeting from Penny offering a few of coffee on arrival. The site is immaculate and kept very neat and tidy. The location is excellent with local areas to walk to and a short time ride to the Forest of Dean, Symonds Yat and other attractions. Facilities on site were very good including a lockable store for our bikes. Would highly recommend this site to anyone and we will definitely return in the near future. Nige and Di Gasston

Lovely CL

Lovely stay at The Firs 8/07/2020 to 22/07/2020. Great site, a little road noise but otherwise a quiet and peaceful holiday. Lovely walks from the site and further a field after a short drive. Very reasonably priced having taken the opportunity to use the special offer. Penny the site owner was very friendly and attentive. She made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be going back.

Fantastic site with outstanding welcome

This is a fantastic site and we will definitely be back. Absolutely outstanding welcome on arrival, couldn't do enough for us. Really good opportunities for cycling. We rode to Symonds Yat via Monmouth and the Forest of Dean family ride via the Coleford link. Both rides around 20 miles with surprisingly little busy road mileage. Yes there is some traffic noise from the road outside but all other aspects more than compensated. Ideal base to explore the Forest of Dean. Very clean and tidy site a real gem.
