Great CL- pity about the road noise

The site description is misleading because the B4228 which runs alongside the site is very noisy throughout the day until late at night, and then starting again in the early morning. I think this has a profound impact on the tranquillity of the site. This is disappointing when you are expecting peace and quiet. Owners are very welcoming and friendly and the site is spot on in every other way.

Perfect location for cycling in Forest of Dean

Spent 8 nights in June here, received a great welcome and soon felt at home. This site is perfectly situated to explore the area on foot and on two wheels. The Forest is easily accessible on a traffic free route, reached just through the village of Sling. The Ostrich pub in Newland is well worth a visit for a nice meal and the ‘Cathedral of the Forest’ is opposite, this church is also worth a visit.

The best welcome and great location

We can honestly say this is the best welcome we have ever received. Mum Mary greeted us and was so helpful, Penny arrived later and was so pleasant and informative, she explained local walkable places of interest such as puzzlewood and clearwell caves, also places to take the motorhome and good places to park when you got there. Site is well planned with flat pitches and there is even a summerhouse with information leaflets. They deserve to do well at this new CL.

Great CL

We stayed at The Firs for 6 nights at the end of May. What a fantastic site. Penny greated us on arrival and we were offered tea or coffee which after a long drive was very welcome. Penny showed us a number of different brochures and flyers located in the “summer house” which were very informative. The hard standings are flat and the surrounding area is beautifully kept. Ideal location for exploring the Forest of Dean. Already booked again for next May. Penny and her mother Mary are lovely people and we look forward to staying with them again.

What a fantastic find!

Love C L'S....and will always try a new site once! Well this site I don't really want to write a review because I want to keep it all to my self!!!! but hey!ho! that would be so selfish! Cannot reiterate what all the fellow Campers have put in writing in their reviews! We have visited twice now and rebooked a third! Love it so much and the family Penny,Mary and Paul, feel we have known them for years! Anny and John

Little Gem on the Edge of the Forest of Dean

Being new to caravanning, we needed all the help we could get, and Penny gave us a wonderful warm welcome, providing us with the quietest spot of the site, extra electric cable, and a well informed introduction to the surrounding area, its attractions and the wonderful wildlife. There is a custom-built tourist information cabin for guests, and a pea-hen who seems to have adopted them providing us with entertainment. A secret gate in the garden gives access to the Forest for walking, and Clearwell Caves. We will be back.

The Firs

A very warm welcome, helpful and attentive with advice on locality. Good, level hardstandings. Some road noise during morning/evening rush but otherwise peaceful and quiet.

....and a secret gate to the Forest

… and a Secret gate to the Forest A lovely, very attractive site, easy to access from the Coleford - Chepstow Road. The hard standings are absolutely flat, which means that it is possible to simply drive up and put the legs down! The facilities are very clean and well arranged. Tintern Abbey, the Wye Valley and Chepstow are within easy driving distance, as is the Severn Valley and views of the bridge. We had a wonderfully warm welcome from Penny, Mary and Paul, who went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed for a successful stay and lots of knowledge about the local area. I don’t think we have been offered a cup of tea on arrival anywhere else! We were made to feel as though we were family. The weather was wonderful! Sitting outside in a tee shirt in October is pretty exceptional we think. And a secret gate into the Forest… beautiful views and a short walk down to Clearwell Caves. Many thanks Penny and your family, we had a marvellous stay.

Welcoming

From our arrival, Penny made us feel very welcome. The hard standings were a bonus with the rain. Found it to be a good base both for visiting within the Forest as well as Monmouth and Tintern Abbey. Several very good local craft shops within The Forest, and the Sculpture Trail is well worth a visit. Would happily come again.

Little gem

Arrived in the rain to a lovely welcome from Penny. We were the first to stay on this new site and we were not disappointed. Lovely setting among the trees. The grass was immaculate with level hard standings. Penny and her family were very helpful and made us feel very welcome, making sure we didn't want for anything. The site is in easy reach of many attractions for all ages.Plenty of pubs and restaurants. Cycle tracks, walks, kayaking on the River Wye and the lovely town of Monmouth to name but a few. There is a little bit of road noise but this soon settled after rush hour. I hope this review is helpful but please don't all rush to book this site as it is " my little gem "
