Wonderful Wortley Wowed us!

WOW a Very nice peaceful site with all hard standing pitches separated by a hedge for privacy, toilets and showers very nice and clean and modern, waste and rubbish facilities are very good, the site is tucked away in a nice corner near the walled garden and duck pond and is secured with locked gates which each camper has a key for the duration of the stay, it has some beautiful walks around the estate, lots of wildlife to be seen from Ducks who visit the caravans daily, pheasants, squirrels and hares. Just a 5 minute walk to the entrance of the estate is a local grocery shop & post office and Wortley WMC & Wortley Arms who serve Cask Ales and food. My only recommendation to improve this site is to stop walkers who visit the Hall wandering up into the caravan site and being nosy as they walk past as you don't know who they are and what some of them may be up to when you aren't at your caravan which makes it feel a bit less secure. it needs clear signs at the entrance to the site stating No access to members of the public.

Wortley Hall - A real stunner!

What a great CL and what a stunning location - the pitching area is in a small enclave right next to the Hall's walled garden. Check in is easy following the instructions about parking at the gates and going to reception. The pitches are narrow but if you want an awning you can put it up on the grass next to the pitch. All 5 pitches are hedged for privacy. You are allocated a pitch on arrival - we were on pitch 1, probably the most sloped but definitely the best for all day sunshine. The two shower rooms/toilets are fantastic and the best we've come across on any CL. The grounds of the hotel make for delightful walks and the village is just a 10 minute stroll away. There is easy access to the Trans-Pennine Trail, a former railway line now a very pleasant walk/cycle path. We only had 2 nights at Wortley Hall but would return without any doubt..

Super CL in a stunning location

What can I say that hasn't been said before. The pitches are immaculate although you would struggle to get car, caravan and awning on most of them. They are all hard standing with hedges between each pitch. The 2 shower/toilets are well presented and were kept clean and tidy whilst we were there. There is plenty of hot water and the showers are free. There is a small area on site has recycling facilities, chemical waste point and the drinking and waste water. The site is situated at the side of the main Hall and you do have to park the caravan at the gates to the site and walk back to reception for the gate key but this is a 2 minute walk. The grounds themselves are beautifully kept and the hall does offer a restaurant and bar area if you wanted to have a night off from cooking. It's a short walk to Wortley itself where you would find a Post Office, small tea room and a couple of pubs. This is probably the best CL we have stayed at in the 2 years we have been using them.

What do you want to do?

An impressive CL! The pitches are immaculately presented. Fresh water and ehu all easily accessible. Booking is great as it is with the hotel reception. As already mentioned the Chemical waste is everything you need. What needs to be emphasised is the shower block. It has two beautifully finished wet rooms. There is room for five, but the finish is probably the same as the hotel! The pitches are fine for Motorhomes but too narrow for caravans, awnings, cars all together. Now, what do you want to do? It is the perfect CL for relaxing in the sunshine or a stroll into the village. I don't fancy cycling particularly, the country lanes carry too many big lorries. The walks off the Hotel website are great and nice for easy fresh air walking. You will really like this CL, just don't book on the weeks that we want a return visit!!

Immaculate site

We agree with all the other reviewers on everything about this wonderful site apart from check in and check out if you have any disabilities and are not able to walk far, to check in you have to drive right up to site gate then walk back to reception to pay and get the key for the gate , there and back took me 10mins ,and you have to repeat the procedure when you leave , so a warning to people with disabilities should be on the site details

Love this CL

Second visit and gets better each time. They have revamped the CL facilities so that the chemical point is now fully covered etc. Spoke to the guy who designed this CL and it was clear he was a caravanner as hes got it just right. The grounds and the hall are lovely but work in progress as there are only two full time gardeners now,had a lovely walk around the walled garden which is supported by volunteers. The bar and the restaurant are brilliant and not in my view overly expensive for what you get. Looking forward to our return.

Super site

Despite staying after a very wet period the site was as good as previous reviews had suggested. It is very different from the typical farm CLs we usually stay on but well worth a visit.

Beautiful site

Another first for us Access is very easy following directions given from the main road. The check in was effortless and welcoming. Once we had our gate key for the site we was left to our own devices. You are allocated a pitch on arrival so there is no need to fight for pole position. The site itself is quite small but we have a twin axle and wouldn't have a problem on any of the pitches although a mover may help if your van is of a larger size. The grounds are kept immaculate and I can only imagine it is wonderful on a summers day but we had the pleasure of Storm Brian for company which didn't affect us due the trees and high garden wall on one side. At £18 a night it is more expensive than what we normally pay for a CL with no toilet ( unless you walk down to the hotel which is only 5 min away) but having said that we will return. Hopefully the weather will be better and we can explore the onsite walk and offsite walks more.
