The perfect stay

We arrived here at the site and we’re welcomed by two lovely couples, the check in process was quick and easy and made so by the site managers. We were two MotorHomes travelling together and the managers did everything to ensure we were sited next to each other. The site is very beautiful and yet very secure with discreet cameras tucked away in the pleasant surroundings of tall leafy trees and chirping green parakeets. After settling in staff members arrived to ensure that we were happy and ok (which we were). After that we were left alone to enjoy the peace and quiet. The site itself is exceedingly clean as were all the facilities, and they were kept that way throughout the whole of our stay. We stayed for three days and during this time the staff came by occasionally whilst maintaining the site just to chat. This is the ideal site for trips into London with the train station just down the road which will take you into London Bridge, ideal for trips to the West End etc. We will definitely be back, once you’ve stayed here you’ll put this at the top of your ‘I’m gonna return here’, list. Great prices as well as club members

Lovely evening- secure and leafy Abbey Wood

We were unsure about booking to stay here as we had a bad impression of the area from years ago, but we were delighted to find the campsite was very secure, with lots of cctv and hedges all over the place to delay and deter any sneaky thieves. Plus Abbey wood iteself seems to have really improved- and maybe we were wrong? The wardens were superb- they got in touch when I was fretting over how long we could leave the van on our checkout day , and were incredibly welcoming and warm. The site itself was beautiful, with so many blossoming trees and plenty of space. I liked being able to choose a pitch - as this was our first stay on a Caravan and Motorhome club site, we were surprised. Likewise I hadn't clocked that loos and sinks were open , and there were no queues. Although the info suggested TV coverage was poor, in the crescent we were fine for the Line of Duty final , which was a relief! We will certainly be returning so we can bike into Greenwich , and get to see the ruins of Lesnes Abbey too. It felt like a place you could relax, and go out and about with confidence.

Return to lovely Abbey Wood

We have been visiting Abbey Wood site for several years and it just gets better and better. This was the first time in a year that we could visit our son in London (outdoors of course). The caravan site was looking tidy and well tended. The wardens were delightful, very helpful, friendly and cheerful. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, the site was less than half full, so it was even quieter than usual. We had to use our own shower (no problem) but, fortunately, we were able to use the site toilets. Other reviewers have referred to the transport options available. We drove to the outskirts of Greenwich, one day, and the route was not busy. We took the train a couple of times and felt reasonably comfortable - most people were following Covid guidelines, I would say at least 90% of people were wearing face masks. The trains were every 10 minutes and they were on time. We are looking forward to our next visit in a couple of months. We had a superb weekend, all in all. Many thanks to the site management team for making us so welcome.

A hidden gem! What a surprise!

We have just returned from a tour to visit family. Our first stop was at Abbey Wood where we spent 5 relaxed and peaceful nights. The site sits in acres of woodland planting which is tiered to make best use of the site. Pitches are spacious and beautifully maintained. The wardens were all extremely helpful and friendly and are clearly working very hard to keep everyone safe. A local shopping area within walking distance provides the basics and it is a short car journey to the nearest supermarket. Within a short stroll through woodland paths you will find the extensive ruins of a large Abbey. A fabulous open space with lovely cafe area and outside seating. This was our first visit to this site but will not be our last. Highly recommend if you are visiting London.

MY GRANDSON AND I have just had an amazing 5 days at Abbey Wood

Bearing in mind the covid restrictions the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a most comfortable and brilliant stay. The wooded areas on site were unbelievably rural, Our pitch was perfect and it’s hard to believe that you are so close to the City. The facilities were spotless and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I would definitely recommend it and will certainly be returning.

You don’t feel as if you’re in London!

I’ve lived nearly half my life in London and like many always try to escape it when the chance comes. Even in the caravan. But even though one is allowed to go on holiday when living in a Tier 2 Covid zone, I decided to stay in Tier 2. What an escape it was. You really don’t feel as if you’re in London anymore. Well kept site, extremely friendly wardens and a lovely setting. The train station is also only a short walk away for trains to London. I can highly recommend an escape to this site. Even if you’re a Londoner like me!

Another nice stay at this site

We visit this site often because it is close to family. This is our first visit since February (and since Covid) so there was some apprehension but there was nothing to worry about. The site was very quite (due I think to the lack of foreign visitors) but was still well maintained, kept clean and secure. The Wardens who look after the site were friendly, helpful and make you feel very welcome and maintain a good balance between making your stay enjoyable and ensuring you understand the rules around keeping people safe from Covid. We will be visiting again soon and have no concerns now about Covid Security.

Great access to central London

Abbey Wood is set in an urban area in the fringes of East London, subsequently it’s a 25min overland train to London Bridge. This mean access to central London is very easy, including direct bus routes to Greenwich. The nearby train station is much improved since our last visit in 2014 (Oyster cards accepted). The site itself remains well cared for with the usual high standards of cleanliness in the facilities. Having visited Crystal (car park) Palace site last year...Abbey Wood is our preferred option when visiting the capital.

Another lovely visit.

We have just returned from Abbey Wood site having stayed for five nights. All the wardens are very friendly and helpful, the site is very well kept and the facilities spotless. We visited our son and also went into central London choosing to use the Thames Uber Clipper boat from Woolwich Arsenal Pier to central London very convenient. If it wasn’t for Covid 19 we would have used the tube or bus very convenient from this site. Central London was really quiet and we felt very safe. We will definitely be returning. Fantastic job being done by Steph,Chris and all the team at Abbey wood.

Another very good stay

Once again, we found ourselves at Abbey Wood, predominately to be able to visit nearby family, but also for access to London. As ever, the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and they maintain the site to a very high standard. Local buses are efficient and the trains provide easy access into the city. This time we discovered Lesnes Abbey - what an interesting place and it is a lovely landscaped area for a local walk, very close to the site. We look forward to our next visit.
