Peaceful & Relaxing Site

Great site with good facilities. Staff friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Large site but is nicely spaced out. You don't feel squeezed in like some sites when they are busy. Lots of local paths for dog walkers and families alike. A short walk through fields and woods opposite the site take you to the local shop that stocks a wide range of items. It's like the TARDIS once you are inside. Some local take aways deliver to the site one we would recommend is Sharpe's Fish and chips. Should you want to shop at bigger stores a short cab ride for around £7 each way will take you to Caterham. Definitely worth visiting again.

Great physical environment

The site is very nice with big well spaced pitches. The location is great for Motorhome because of the easy access to walks straight from the site. The website says walking route maps are available from reception. Sadly this is not the case and the staff have never heard of the downlands circular walk which is the main route. From a guest perspective some thought should be given to recycling, the only way to tell what to recycle where is to go through all the bins - of which there are many small ones. There does not appear to be glass recycling at all. I went to reception to ask where the non recyclable waste went and was told it was the small domestic bin outside the reception door. I confirmed this was indeed the only one and was told yes. Sadly once again it was not labelled. The booking in instructions failed to inform that you have to come back for a barrier access card when you have parked up or that parking to the left of the site peg is required. They are however happy to drive round on a tractor and tell people to move after the event.

Another excellent stay

Stayed for 5 nights at the beginning of dec to visit family. The site is lovely spacious pitches, facilities are immaculate and band system in place. Top block open. Lovely walks from the site , downland. Way circular. Great location for lots of national trust places and trains from merstham to London. Look forward to staying again. Don't follow your sat nav as Dean lane is not suitable for caravans

Take care on your approach to this site.......

The advised route was closed, so we asked the Google gods to direct us to the site. It was of course down one width lanes for quite some time. Needless to say it was quite stressful but we arrived. As always a friendly welcome and you just know everything is going to be clean and works when you come to a caravan club site. We set up in the dark and in no time at all. There is a big Tesco store about a 1 1/2 ,miles away and we spent the weekend visiting our daughter. Did not use the facilities but had a peek and they were spotless. It served its purpose for us and it was a nice site with trees and yes you can just about hear a hum of motorway traffic noise but it did not bother us at all.

Well maintained site in a great walking location

This is a really neat but characterful site. Well maintained, and with plenty of trees but you are not overhung. Facilities are really tidy and clean. The walks straight from the site, up onto North Downs / Pilgrim's Way, through Chaldon, along Happy Valley, and through the woods to Alderstead Heath, and more, are great. Tremendous views form the North Downs. Only gave 4* for Peace and quiet, as there is a slight um from M25. Great cycling on the nearest NCN cycle routes too.

An oasis of calm

This week I stayed at Alderstead Heath campsite with my young daughter and her best friend. The wardens were friendly, polite and helpful, without being in any way intrusive. The site and facilities were immaculate. Only an hour away from our home In London. Super little playground and lovely walks nearby. We shall definitely be returning. Thank you.

Not up to Caravan and Motorhome Club Standards

We stayed for 5 nights on serviced pitch and were disappointed by a number of aspects regarding the way the site was managed. The COVID rules restricted the sanitary bocks to 5 wrist bands which were left in sanitised fluid at the entrance. On many occasions that we used the facilities all 5 bands were in the fluid and showers and WC’s were occupied. For a 48 hour period only 4 bands were in the fluid when the blocks were empty. Other caravaners also commented on the large number of people not following rules. The grass was excessively long and long enough to disguise dog dirt just to the rear of our pitch. We were also surprised by the number of commercial vehicle on site and caravans with registration plates not matching their accompanying vehicles. One of whom was spraying his sporty BMW car windows with black out paint on his day off from work. On the plus side there is a lovely countryside walk to The Fox at Caterham, about 2 miles over open countryside and plenty of other walking routes. The wardens were very helpful and guided us to the site due to local road closure. They are aware of the issues regarding the wrist bands but my personal view is that they don’t feel empowered to challenge the type of people non conforming. We shall not return and would expect the club to take note of mine and other ,reviews.

Peaceful perfect Location

I simply can't concur with the last 2 reviews. A warm welcome awaits you at this site from the wardens. We arrived yesterday the 1/9/20 to a picture perfect site. It is very peaceful and tranquil. Very well maintained by the staff. The first night was very quiet no signs of any "alleged" travellers quite the opposite in fact. Large pitches well spaced out lots of room. We are in larger than average Motorhome 7.4 metres no issues getting into the site just avoid Dean Lane our sat nav took us the correct way. A great location for walking and cycling. Dog friendly and great for children as well. A nice play park and wide open spaces for them. I would highly recommend this site.

Another Great Stay 28/08 - 01/09

In reference to the pervious review, we cannot comment on all aspects of the review however the reference to the long grass the reason for this is when the grass is cut short and then put under the stress of heat and groundsheets coving it, vans / cars driving on it it does not respond well ( my job is looking after sports pitches ). As far as the loud music is concerned that was not coming from the site it was an illegal rave taking place in the woods adjacent to the site so apart from reporting it to the Police which I know they did, there wasn't alot the wardens could do. Good Covid-19 procedures in place, we have visited this site many times and love it and will be returning soon.

Potentially very nice but ruined

I usually read reviews and take very little notice until I visit a site for myself. This site has a lot of potential and the modern facilities are lovely with great walks. Without the main aspect that I shall mention shortly the site was let down by 1. Police visits on two occasions. Unsure why they visited but does make you feel uneasy 2. Grass very long and clearly has not been cut for a long time 3. Yes there are travellers. But to be fair they were very pleasant whilst our children shared the playground. 4. Dangerous metal gate to playground. 2 of my children were hit on the head by strongly sprung gate and sadly the family on the pitch adjacent had a vist to hospital because their son was badly hurt with a large cut on face due to the gate. The largest concerning point, one of which I thought I would never encounter whilst staying at a club site was the incredibly loud music being played from 8pm until 11.10pm. At 10pm I had had enough and decided to visit the warden who I could not find. The music was so loud that I could here it across the whole site. It was coming from a group camped in tents down the far end of the site. There were guests all standing outside their units trying to find out where it was coming from. Considering this is a very large site, to hear it everywhere shows you the volume it was being played at. As I previously mentioned, I usually take no notice of reviews and never thought I’d feel obliged to write one myself, as I sometimes feel the comments made are fussy and people should lower their expectations. But in this occasion. Wow. Never thought I’d encounter this. Will not be back to this site. Such a shame as it has potential to be lovely. I am expecting the usual copied and pasted response from the club that says a lot without saying anything that you can see from the plethora of negative reviews about this particular site.
