Fantastic Welcome

Recently stayed at this site and had a terrific time. The staff were friendly, the site was spotless and the shower blocks were the cleanest I've ever seen. The site was full so not everyone had a pitch to their liking, but the staff went out of their way to accommodate everyone. Well done to the team!

Very Peaceful location

Lovely convenient place to stay for the Sussex coast area, beautifully wooded and in the how days in September, was ideal due to the shade we had. The "less good" bits... This is not a fault, bit a warning for future new visitors. The site does not have the usual "circular road" through the site. Mainly there is a single roadway that leads off into dead end areas. If these areas are full when you get into them, turning may be an issue. It's worth letting your co-pilot get out of the outfit and check that there is a free pitch before going into a cul de sac. It's a lovely wooded site, and with 27degree temperatures, it was fantastic having the caravan shaded Very convenient for Battle, Hastings and Eastbourne/Beachy Head, and will definitely revisit again

Great site, lots of nice pitches

Stayed here September 2020 for 12 nights, got grass pitch No 25 which I really recommend as is a bit more secluded. All site facilities were clean and tidy, wardens friendly and working hard. Lots to do in the area; Battle itself, Hastings, Beachy Head all worth a trip. Why do members all pile in at 1pm though????

Lovely site

We stayed 3 nights at beginning of sept as we’d never explored this part of the world. We arrived a little later than advertised to avoid queuing and we literally had no wait at reception. We asked for a quiet secluded pitch and was given a map with pitches requested marked on it. We drove around a bit and found the perfect one. It had a non awning pitch in front and we were told ‘you’ll have it to yourself as no one uses non awning pitches’ Ha! About half hour after pitching, a giant motor home arrived and promptly parks in front of us!! I guess that’s the way it goes but with so many non awning pitches free, we were a bit perplexed but hey ho! Anyway, we found the facilities ie toilets and showers were scrupulously clean and of a very high standard. We do have our own facilities but with an older type van, they’re not the best so we do like to use site facilities if possible. There was hardly anyone using them so we were well happy! The site is in a good location for many places to visit and we did a fab bike ride around the countryside which was so pretty. Would recommend and would happily return.

Fab area but campsite lacking

Forgot to mention.. serviced pitch number 94 has a tree growing to the side of it. If our friends had parked their motor home as instructed with back side to peg, they would have seriously damaged the roof, air con and TV aerial, as one tree branch has grown over the pitch. This pitch should not be hired to motor homes. When we book online, you have our details and our vehicles details, please do not direct us to unsuitable pitches.

Fab area to visit but campsite lacking.

We stayed here for 1 week on a serviced pitch. The pitch size was too small. We have an average sized caravan and awning. But the car would only just fit into the space, resulting in the passenger having to get in after reversing out. The pitch No 106 and 107 are right above the toilet block which has an access steep staircase to them. Routinely got sewage smell in caravan and awning. All day people passing caravan and smokers even worse ! Gap to the main route road, about 3 feet so unable to sit in our 3 feet as chairs next to road. Signage on site lacking. We went up one of the many cul de sacs, as read the map wrong. After a stressful journey could have done without the reversing audience. The site is very dark at night and feels unsafe, the road in several places has risen up and unsteadiness you in the dark wifi hot spot is outside reception, it is not free. No other source. Wardens are doing there best to pick up dog poo, but there are so many dogs there, it is impossible to police. Even when owners pick up, there is a smudge of poo left . Should ban dogs. Special dog walk is on site, however most owners do a tour of the site which sets off all the other dogs, not a quiet site. Sunday was shooting day on the neighbouring land. Started at 9am and lasted tun til 12 noon. We will not return. If you do visit, I recommend you get your passenger to walk ahead of your vehicle. I counted at least 10 caravans and motor homes going round in circles lost or trying to locate the small numbered pegs on the pitches. Had an issue with the windbreak, warden mark was very nice about it, but was asked to take down as not actually on our pitch. Also pitches numbers 56 57 58 constantly flooded whilst we were there. Unacceptable.

Good site spoilt by chaotic arrival system

When we visited this site it was very full as peak season and did feel a bit crowded with some pitches seeming to be tucked in behind others. Very different site layout as is on site of old gardens and so it is different to many purpose built sites with secluded small pitch areas and many dead ends. The site is clean and well maintained, good system in place for limiting numbers in toilet/shower blocks which were thoroughly cleaned once a day. Staff were helpful. Great walk down to Catsfield along the 1066 walk with the White Hart pub nice and handy in the village and would recommend the Squirrel Inn also nearby for great food. Poor rating for quiet site as we had to take a pitch by the children's play area (not by choice) and lots of kids zooming by on bikes and shouting loudly when playing. I'm not complaining about this as it was school holidays, it just meant our experience was we didn't have peace and quiet! This would have been an excellent rating save for the chaotic arrival system where you are given a map with what the staff believe to be free pitches and then you drive around getting stressed trying to find the actual free ones because people who have arrive don't bother to go back and tell reception and they don't check either. Basically it's the last thing you want to do after the journey there and gives a poor first impression especially as due to the site layout there are lots of dead ends and a wrong decision results in a test of your caravan reversing skills with plenty of onlookers. We watched many a new arrival suffer this same fate during our stay, with other people we spoke to during our stay also commenting about this without being prompted. This really needs sorting, why not allocate pitches during busy times like other sites or allocate staff to whizz round on bikes to check every now and then? It's not a big site! Has put us off returning again and would only consider during off peak times. Also on the Covid side of things surprised to see no hand sanitiser at water fill up/waste disposal points and none in children's play areas although most parents we saw seem to let their children roam freely so no parental supervision anyway to make them do it!!!

Excellent and well COVID protected

Stayed at this site for 8 days from 16th Aug 2020 as my parenst live in Bexhill. The wardens had done a good job of trying to protect those wanting to use the facilities. We needed to as our little caravan has limited facilities and we both found them readily availabel due, I think to some using their own washrooms. The site is well placed and great for walking and cycling as the 1066 walkway if right next door. I cycled through Catsfield and Ninfieled every morning and it was great, if but a bit long and steep from Ninfield to site. Very good though, will stay again.

Lovey site

You can’t get on the site during Covid period until 1pm not 12 as on web site. Pretty quiet site with excellent walks around it. Well positioned for Hastings and surrounding villages. Pitches are sheltered and set on different levels. The shower and toilet blocks were spotless. I loved the toddler bath room (lower field) as I had my grandchildren with me aged 3 and 4 it had a child sized toilet and small bath with a hand held shower for hair. So much easier than trying to wash little ones in a normal shower cubical. The site staff were lovely and helpful. If you go into Battle (beautiful village) and want to eat try Whites in the high street its a fish & steak bar. Really great interior. Manager and staff are very attentive and food was to die for, also reasonably priced. COVID rules in place were good. Only thing I couldn’t understand was why was the children’s play area closed?. All government playgrounds around the country have reopened so why not on caravan sites??? Adults know to social distance and children are not vulnerable. Hand sanitiser by the entrance to use going in and out would mean it could be used safely.

Excellent Staff and Facilities but.....

Excellent Staff and Facilities, great welcome, Site Plus points: Amazing wardens doing a difficult job in these trying times, superb and old trees and shrubs, usual club amenities are all well kept and efficient, mobile and tv signal, good site shop. Minus points: entry track is too narrow for modern units, especially at the usual 13:00 check in rush which can cause a log jam, most pitches are too close together, 20 less pitches on the site would improve privacy, pitch map needs re designing as it gives no indication to the first time visitor of the different terrace levels available, most dont observe the 5 mph speed limit, and unless you are a fan of kids on swings and bikes from 07:30 to 21:00 I would stay away from the main roadway pitches. Battle itself was a bit disappointing but where isn't after a 6 months lockdown! Site is 30 minutes from Eastbourne by car, which is well worth the visit.
