The Grandchildren love it here

Our second visit in 3 years with three grandchildren. (Last time we had 6 grandchildren in two waves of 3!) They just love it here! Great for cycling and scootering around the park in safety, plus an enclosed games field (a bit worn and dusty but that was due to the dry weather) next to the playground. Being mid-August the site was very busy but the staff stay so cheerful and friendly and keep the facilities so clean. A real credit to the Warden and his team.

A lovely stay by The Thomson Family

A lovely site set just a couple of miles outside Battle. We chose to pitch at plot 69 due to the close proximity of the well equipped playground that allowed our two young daughters freedom to explore and play at will. the site is very clean and the staff are superb, very helpful and all of the staff we encountered really went out of their way to make our children feel very welcome, they especially enjoyed doing the Activity packs to win prizes and also the Treasure Trail on-site. Overall a perfect weekend that let us feeling very chilled and relaxed! We will be sure to be back soon. Don't rely on Sat-Nav when you are close to arrival!

Signage

There's very little to criticise about this site. Everything is immaculate and in very good order. One thing that annoyed me a bit was: first visit to the toilet block - it is festooned with useful signage but there isn't one to show where the men's and women's toilets are. It's a long, thin building, none of the doors on the front were the toilets so a reasonable assumption was it's round the back. Went round the back and found the women's - looked up the other end which is a mirror image so walked along there to find a barrier preventing me (for no apparent reason) from entering from that direction. This meant I was supposed to walk the full perimeter of the building. Couldn't work out what kind of health and safety rule would have been abused so jumped over the barrier nearly twisting my ankle on landing as I was wearing cloggies. A sign on the front of the building indicating showing where the toilets are would have obviated this sad situation.

Lovely well maintained site.

Location ideal for visiting seaside and National Trust properties. Plenty of other 'history' in the area too.

Never to return

We went to this site on recommendation of friends, who have 2 dogs. We booked a 2 night weekend with our 4 dogs and on arrival found that there were very limited pitches left, and ended up some 200 meters away from the kids play area. Being during school holidays, the site was full of family's and the noise level coming from the play area was almost unbearable! We then attempted to take our dogs for their usual off lead walk in the surrounding countryside. Only to be stopped by the local gamekeeper, who had driven up the lane towards us at an alarming speed, and told in no uncertain terms that all dogs had to be kept on leads due to the Pheasants (waiting to be slaughtered I suspect). My dogs are gun dogs and very well behaved and need off lead exercise.  There was also the early morning sound of motorcycles racing along the nearby A271 and the local hunt decided to run their hounds early Saturday morning resulting in a total cacophany of barking dogs. This site is perfect for families but anyone wanting a quiet time or anyone with dogs need not apply!  We shall not return, even out of high season.

Lovely week

We have just returned from a week at this site. It was very relaxing and a very friendly site. The wardens couldn't have been more helpful. I don't understand some of the negative reviews I have read. It is made very clear that you can't book in before noon so you can't complain if you get there at 10.30am. Also the toilet cleaning is at 11.00 - 12.00 so I am confused by some of the earlier reviews there as well. We could totally understand why you needed to walk to look at the pitches. It was fully booked when we arrived and we arrived later than we had planned so not much choice but we still had a lovely pitch and we were told we could change it after the weekend when it wasn't full. We didn't need to. The walk into Catsfield is lovely and from there you can walk into Battle. Our dog has had to come home for a rest!! We would definitely come back to the site. Thank you Chrissie and Bob Richardson. Cambridge.

1066 Tour

This Club site is immaculately clean and well kept - even though it is on the site of a long gone stately home. Our pitch was in the old stable yard and was non awning due to the cobbles and sets. Dogs have to remain on lead whilst on the dog walk which was a little disappointing as they do like to run about. Scotney Castle is fantastic and well worth a visit. Battle Abbey is expensive to get in if you are not English Heritage members but very enjoyable and informative. Hastings Old Town with the tall black net huts, quaint shops and cafe's and two funicular railways is the sort of day destination that keeps on giving. Bodium and Pevensey Castles are steeped in the history of the area. Great lunch, including a reasonable vegetarian selection, can be purchased at the Route 1066 cafe' - a bikers stop but all made welcome. Site full of rhododendrons of different colours and a play area for the grand children and a credit to the hard working wardens. Will definitely return

Busy site

We arrived at battle and the site was very full so we had to site on a pitch we wouldn't have chosen, some of the pitches are dark as they are overshadowed by the trees, which are lovely, but make some pitches a lot nicer than others. We were able to move the next day but that means not fully setting up on arrival and gave us not the best start to our holiday or the best of first impressions. We have stayed on full sites before that have maintained their feeling of space, Battle felt claustrophobic. We probably wouldn't stay here again.

Another great stay

Use this site once a year and it never disappoints.Toilets are clearly marked when they are to be cleaned so don,t use them then.As with all sites there is an earliest arrival time so don't arrive early.Top notch site well maintained.
