Great site - let down by dodgy hookups

Great site, quiet and easy access to beach for dog walking. Noise from trains is not intrusive. Have started my season here every March for the last 3 years (April this year). Local pub, just across from site very welcoming (not currently open due to Covid), and dogs welcome. Beer a lot cheaper than tourist spots down the coast. Fabulous beaches in easy reach. Nice villages and pubs in countryside if you like exploring. Beware of dodgy hookups. Last year the transformer blew and I had to move to Barnard Castle, the week before lockdown. The staff had no idea when the electrics would be up and running. Luckily it was the first week of the season and only about 7 vans on site. This year, for first 3 days of my 9 night stay hookups intermittent. Obviously issues with faulty equipment that needs addressing. Well worth visiting.

A site with a view

As said before this a very compact and narrow sight, feels shoe horned into a residential position. The train track is directly behind the site, but the trains are fast and certainly don't distrub and Spittal is certainaly in need of invetstment. But having said that, the site is beautifully kept, as you would expect. The wardens were helpful and hospitable. There's no dog walk on the site, but there is a small park at the end of the entrance road and the beach is a 5 minute walk. BEWARE of ticks in the long grass as you approach the beach. The cramped aspect of the site is easy to forgive when you get out and about. The beaches along this part of the coast are spectacular and the walks along the coast are equally beautiful. A trip to Holy Island - we went by bike on the recommended route, which I have to say was a little more off road than we expected; was worth the effort. Berwick is a 15 mintute walk and is a wonderful place to visit. A walk around the ramparts is lovely and the town is full of little shops and cafe's all offering outside tables at the moment. I would recommend this site for adults, there's not a lot for children to do, no playground etc., but you have to go there with a full understanding of what to expect, this is not a site with lots of space.

Spring outing

We received a warm welcome from the stewards, & told to drive around and pick a pitch. Quite a difficult site to negotiate (quite tight and lots of dead ends). I believe all pitches have a sea view. We didn't use the facilities - but they looked like they were up to the usual C&MC standard. Spittal had no shops, cafes or bars apart from a kiosk on the front, the whole place felt quite austere. I afraid we won't be going back !!

Perfect View

October break at this site, our first but not last stay here. Pitch 69 with a perfect view across Spittal and Berwick-upon-Tweed, the river and the sea and the three bridges. Staff were lovely, facilities spotless. 10 minute stroll to the beach 20 minutes to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Note: There is a train track which runs along the back of the site, you cannot escape it but we didn't mind it, our pitch being in full view of the train. Start running about 7am and finishes around 11ish. Not too intrusive apart from the first night at 2.30am woken by a very, very loud noise, peeking through the window was met by many bright lights and orange minions with lights on, thought it was a visiting space ship, turned out to be a bit of track maintenance!

Fabulous location

What could be better than walking on the beach in the morning sunshine watching the dolphins in the bay? That was just one highlight of our stay at Berwick upon Tweed. The site overlooks the sea and we were lucky enough to get a pitch with a great view. Those arriving late however may end up at the back of the site where it is a little tight for space if you have a larger vehicle. Toilet/ shower facilities clean and Covid procedures in place. Only drawback was that cleaning takes place early compared to other sites which makes for a rush and the inevitable queuing and ignoring wrist band system by some. Light sleepers be aware that there is a train track directly behind the site and the town click chimes every hour day and night. Didn’t bother us but worth knowing. Would definitely recommend.

Great Site, Great location.

Our first visit to this site ,and it certainly won't be the last. Great location, everything we expected. The wardens keep the site in pristine condition and should be proud of all their hard work in unprescedented times. The town is close enough to walk to and there are plenty of other good and interesting walks nearby. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area as well, although we left the car and walked most of our week there. My only complaint, if there are three bands on the hooks outside the toilet block why do some members think it is alright to come in, why do some members always want to bend the rules and spoil it for others. Other than that, Great site, Great location.

Very welcoming, very clean, excellent stay

What a lovely place, we stayed for 2 weeks,September 2020 we nipped up to Edinburgh by train for two nights and had no worries about leaving the van. The wardens were amazing, really helpful, thank you so much! Felt very COVID safe! Good plans in place, very clean, all exceptionally well maintained Lovely walk to Berwick, easy reach of The Holy Island, Etal and Ford, great walks, sights and sounds. Bus stop at the entrance to the site to Berwick. Watched the dolphins and seals plus numerous birds from our caravan. Pitch 10. Very easy reach to local shops. A great and very relaxing fortnight. Motorhomer - All we expected

To be honest we don't use these big sites other than to make use of the washing machine. Friendly welcome and chats with some folk on site. Great facilities. On arrival told to find a pitch and then report back which one, which was fine. This obviously the reason why there is a queue to get in at 1pm. We could have had a Seaview but left for others there for longer than us. I spent a good while on the wall outside the laundry looking out to sea and chatting to folk going by. Need to know the mainline railway runs just above the back of the site but didn't disturb us at night. Sheltered where we pitched.

Two Night Stay Aug 2020

Good site well run Wardens are Friendly and Knowledgable. Site is located in a mixed residential housing estate but within easy and cycling distnace of Berwick. Main eastcoast rail line is behind site but as this line is electrified its very quiet in comparison to a diesel loco line. We found the site very quiet in comparison to other sites in the height of the holiday season. Whilst we there we opted to for a takeout from Foulis. 3 fish and chips and a 12inch pizza cost £31! Good sized portions of fish and chips but the pizza was a dissapointing ball of dough! Depending on your appetite a portion of fish and chips is enough for 2 people. The live seafood market had closed by the time we arrived btut the take out menu look appetising. It is worth noting that Monday is a non trading day in Berwick with several shops - that remain trading - closed for the day, as per 70's and 80's tradiition. Overall very much worth a visit. Lots of history and good walking. Site is excellent with good views in places.

Not a sea view

Came with expectation of sitting of an evening looking out at the view, this was not to be. Do not book a non-awning pitch (blue peg) hardstanding, if you are 7mtrs long. Your outlook will be a bank of weedy grass or trees as all the rest are awing pitches. False advertising comes to mind. We asked if we could change and pay the difference, yes we could. We were on the move all packed up and on the seaview pitch when we were told no, go back to your non view pitch. We have to keep one white peg pitch open in case someone has booked it. So back we went for 10 days of no view. Other people came and went over the time we were there with no visit from the site staff who knew we were unhappy with our pitch, other than constantly mowing, strimming or riding by on the tractor. We liked where the site is and would go back but they need to let people know that the only no-awning pitch with a sea view is very short and only a small caravan or campervan will fit on it. We also found that the cleaning routine was still only once a day, chewing gum found stuck to the wall of the urinal for 24hrs during covid is not reassuring. A few people on site did not follow the rules over covid.
