Short Stay at Black Horse Farm Site

We had a short stay at the site, the staff were friendly and courteous. The site was clean smart and tidy. We had a serviced pitch that was excellent. We used the local bus service that was very convenient. We will stay again as it is well situated for the Lydden Hill Race Circuit.

Will definitely return

This was a last minute booking. I was hoping to get closer to Dymchurch, Ashford or Hythe, but this was the closest I could get. I wasn't disappointed, facilities were good and it's in a peaceful location.

Over night stay for early channel tunnel crossing

Our first stay at a club site, I booked this site because of its locality to the channel tunnel. Friendly and helpful staff. The ferry/Chunnel pitches are perfect. The pub opposite the site is recommended ( the mixed grill beat me - it's massive) We will use this site every time we travel to the continent as a stop over and plan to stay for a weekend to enjoy the local attractions.

Overnight stop en route to France

Black Horse Farm is a pleasant site with a nice pub and convenience store opposite the entrance. We used the site as a stopover en route to our ferry from Dover. It's very easy to find and allowed us to use the clean facilities and have a quiet night's sleep before our onward journey. We were staying on a Friday in August so many other outfits were doing something similar and all seemed to arrive and depart without any fuss. We were impressed to have a phone call from the site a week in advance of our stay explaining that if we are likely to arrive after 20:00, that we must phone on the day to receive a barrier code and instructions as to how to find our pitch. We were a little less impressed when I made the call on the day to say that we were likely to arrive at approx. 22:00. I was told that I could only arrive after 20:00 if we were coming off a ferry, not going to it. When I asked what difference it made, I was told that they were just obeying orders. I explained we could not make it by 20:00 and that when I called to make the booking some months ago to pay upfront (necessary for 'ferry pitches'), I explained our likely arrival time and was told that would be fine. In the event, they gave us a code and when we arrived, we followed the clear instructions and had no problems. I'm not complaining but I just think the Caravan Club need to think through the procedure a little more as the site serves a good purpose. I'm sure it would also be good for a longer stay but we were not there long enough to comment.

We've never been so pleased to arrive!

What a welcome sight! After hours on the M20 & A20, we were very relieved to arrive. Thankfully check in was very quick and simple, pitching was almost as easy, thanks to the large flat pitches. The toilets were clean every time we used them and the dog walking area was very well thought out and looked after. We would definitely use this site again the next time we travel to France.

Beware if arriving late!

Beware if you are planning to arrive after 8pm. Every year the rules seem to change. In previous years all instructions have been left at the gate. This year, you still have to collect pitching instructions at the gate, but are required to phone ahead on the day of arrival to obtain a 4 digit code for the barrier. This can be awkward when returning from abroad. The Caravan Club needs to come up with a better method and communicate all the instructions better through the website or booking confirmations. A lot of the bookings on this site are one night for the ferries and will always involve late arrivals & early departures.  As always the wardens are very pleasant and helpful. I have rated 'Peace & Quiet' low simply because of the type of site it is. On ferry pitches you have to expect noise. However the main site areas are quiet. Keith

Convenient for the Tunnel, but ......

We have used BHF quite a few times over the past 3 years with our Motorhome as a great overnight stop on our way to Europe. Travelling from home in the Midlands, being able to arrive after 8pm for an early shuttle or ferry the next day was brilliant. No longer allowed it seems if travelling from the UK, but still ok if incoming to the UK from Europe. Strange but sad .... Hope the CC has a change of heart on this.

A week in Folkestone

I have visited this site before but only as a stopover on the way to France. This is a lovely quiet site with very clean and excellent facilities and the wardens are hard working and very pleasant. There are excellent links to both the ferries, the tunnel and London from this site. I do not use the CC wifi so I cannot comment on that however did have a lot of trouble with getting a mobile signal.

Black Horse Farm

We stayed for a week from 2nd to 9th August. The site is conveniently situated, very pleasant and quiet with friendly and helpful wardens. The only downside was the appalling Wi-Fi connection. I only use it for e-mails and checking a few things on the internet but that proved very difficult. It generally took a long time to access and when that was eventually successful the connection kept failing. It was particularly galling because on the first or second day I had to renew the Airangel subscription, costing £25, which turned out to be a complete waste of money. The wardens were fed-up with the service and dealing with complaints. Our next visit to a Club site is to Godrevy at the end of the month so I hope the Wi-Fi works better there. I would add that in previous years I have not had a problem.
