Enjoy the peace

We spent four nights and enjoyed ourselves in the peace and cleanliness of the site. The wardens we saw and spoke to were all friendly and helpful. Ideal location for visiting Cambridge and the surrounding area (Anglesey Abbey is brilliant). Will return again

Poor Pitch

Have recently returned from 3 nights at Cherry Hinton, and would agree that if you get a good (open) pitch your opinion of the site is vastly improved. We only had a choice of 2 pitches and ended up on pitch 22 - dark and dingey - it didn't encourage spending any time on site!! On the plus side the faciiities where spotless and piped Radio 2 was a nice touch. Access to Cambridge was great with buses running every 10 mins. We also visited Ely 20-30 mins away and had a guided tower tour of the octagonal tower 166 steps (spiral) so be warned - but it's well worth the effort. Incidently the whole of Ely has free car parking!!!!

Cross Your Fingers for a Good Pitch

On the plus side the directions in the Site book are spot on, follow them and ignore your sat nav. Be careful during the last 150mtrs in Lime Kiln Lane. This is a very narrow road with oncoming traffic encroaching over the white line, I doubt two caravans could pass without problems. On exiting the site this is done on a wing and a prayer. Although there is a viewing mirror opposite the exit by the time you see an oncoming vehicle it's almost on top of you and travelling at some speed. The site itself is fine but there are some dark and dismal pitches, I agree with "DOUBLO", take some earplugs if you get under the trees. The Toilet block is immaculate and always warm. Ten minute walk to the "Robin Hood" Pub, decent food but shocking service. Bus stop opposite pub takes you into Cambridge, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We shall return but hopefully we will catch the wardens in a better mood, a refresher course in communication and people skills is required, the last time I was spoken to like this was from a regimental sergeant major, "Enough Said".

A great site

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and had a wonderful time. The wardens were very friendly and made us very welcome. The site is split up into several small areas and these make it feel that the site is much smaller than it is. When we arrived there were only 3 pitches left and it was pouring with rain. The warden lent us a brolly and we made our choice, with which we were very happy. Even though the site is on the edge of Cambridge it feels like being right out in the country. There is a nice area opposite the site which was good for walking the dog, and we were pleased to see a sparrowhawk. At night we could hear owls calling. The bus stop is about 10 minutes walk away, for a bus which goes right into the centre of Cambridge. We went in twice, and thoroughly enjoyed walking around the city. The showers etc were spotless, and the shower block was lovely and warm. We would be happy to return to this site, and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.

Lovely Site if you get a good pitch

On all sites some pitches are better than others but on this one there is a significant difference between the better ones and the poorer ones. Quite a high proportion of the pitches are surrounded by VERY tall trees, creating dark, dismal, cold areas where sitting outside is uncomfortable. (We had acorns dropping on the roof all night from a height of 50 feet before we were fortunate to be able to find a better pitch the next day) This is a shame because this is a lovely site but if we had to spend the full holiday in one of the very shaded areas I'm afraid we would probably terminate the trip early. The site is well maintained but, in my opinion, needs some serious tree surgery.

Lovely placel to spend a few days

We spent two nights here a couple of weeks ago. The wardens were welcoming, friendly, informed, and we had a joke with them. You walk around the site to chose your pitch which is a good idea because the site is set out across a few levels. This split level layout is really great - while it's actually no smaller than many CC sites it feels very small and personal. Well located, clean, tidy, well managed. There was some distant traffic noise but nothing too intrusive. We cycled to Cambridge and enjoyed the rides there and back (through Grantchester). I'd thoroughly recommend this site, wish we'd been able to spend a couple more nights instead of leaving after only two, and hope to return sometime. In response to the other comments about poor wifi - I was pleased to find I could get a great signal, with 4G on my phone so didn't need to use the CC wifi at all!

Perfect for oldies

Five nights in September at Cherry Hinton gave us two retired caravanners a perfect break for exploring Cambridge, Newmarket, Ely, St Ives and the NT Wimpole House estate. Everyone says how welcoming and friendly the wardens are and we agree. Top marks! The only negatives but not in any big way are aircraft noise (offset by the chance of seeing classic vintage aircraft from Duxford) and the traffic which makes a trip into Cambridge or anywhere along the A14 a driving nightmare. If you go, DO walk Grantchester Meadows along the Cam. A truly English experience! But I imagine parents with young families would find Cherry Hinton too limiting.

Cherry Hinton

Visited this site for 3 weeks and really enjoyed it. Great bus service 10 minute walk away. Great for cycling with so many cycle paths. Lovely area. Very friendly and helpful wardens with lovely clean modern toilet block. WiFi is probably better than other sites but still slow and poor. Very poor system!!

Very very nice

Visited for the first time for two weeks, found the site very clean and tidy, wardens very approachable and helpful. We will return as it is very handy for the buses into Cambridge and the local village is only a five minute walk away. Highly recommended
