Although this site is approximately 25 minutes beyond Keswick by car, it's seclusion and tranquillity repays many times over - quiet walks around Loweswater and Crummock Water may be accessed within 10 - 15 minutes in the car and strong walkers can find virtually unused tracks which give access to the NW Fells of the Lake District within a mile of the site.
The site itself is a haven of bird life and its westerly, sheltered aspect mean that in many conditions sitting out with a cup of something listening to bird-song is a joy! Add to this the quiet efficiency and diligence of the present young wardens and you have a recipe for a wonderful holiday. However, if you want a busy site, full of 'young bucks' ready to demonstrate their latest 'outfit purchase' and to entertain you with stories of previous jaunts (escapades?) then look elsewhere. This location is for relaxing and enjoying the peace and solitude of Cumbria - the nearby coast is worthy of your time for investigation - you will be entranced by the cobbled streets of Silloth and the old harbour at Maryport. One of the Caravan Club's 'little gems'!
Dockray Meadow
We enjoyed our stay on this beautiful little site. Don't normally visit sites without toilet blocks, but thought to try this site. We received very warm welcome to the site by the Wardens and their Jack Russell. The only downside was the fact that the power points could be positioned better, we had to encroach slightly onto our neighbours pitch, even though we did have a 25 meter cable it was a bit of a stretch, same with the tv cable too. The site could pose a problem with people that have larger caravans, or ones without motor movers, even cars were having to encroach onto other pitches or onto the grass areas in order to reverse on to their pitches, but this may be only a problem where we were. Great site, apart from the constraints of the area which the site is situated.
New van new site
Tried a no facilities site for the first time and we were delighted we picked this site. Very quite and peaceful. Some great walks near by. Cogra moss a hidden gem don't miss it. Also try the drive past loweswater and over honister pass through borrowdale to Keswick . You won't forget it!
Easter and places spare due to bad manners by Members
We have just started after a 10 year break. This was our first outing. On arrival we were informed tea as we had been honest about no awning there was only choice of 3 pitches.
What really hurt was that about 12 bookings did not turn up. Not only annoying to us because of the above but also very bad manners as other Members were unable to book over a Holiday weekend. Change the rules please.
nice quiet caravan club site
Very well organised caravan club site with very good sized pitches. Warden very helpful. Handy for local walks. And site seeing.

Favourite Site
This must be our favourite site on the network. Quiet, attractive, wonderful part of the Lakes. Whatever the weather it's a beautiful, dramatic, ever changing place to be. If I could only ever stay on one caravan site again it would be this one because of it's location.
excellent, made our holiday
rookies to new caravanning our last was in the days of gas only and no confusing heating and electrics.
However after a disastrous start, my wife had a minor accident, my fault !!.Several members rallied round to help connect up and settle us in.We
shall remain ever grateful to all of them.
Then came the awning and here the Warden followed on from the evening before when his wife greeted us with such friendliness and help and got it erected within a few minutes yet more unsolicited help and advice.
All this began to get the holiday off to an
excellent stay Well done Warden and wife and to all the help and advice from caravan club members

Delightful & quiet
Took a chance on getting a pitch un-booked in early early August - no problem. Stayed a couple of nights, relishing the peacefulness and good weather!
The wardens were wonderful, ever so helpful and cheery. Also has the bonus of no toilets, meaning there is at least a chance in high season of finding a pitch!
Disappointing
We booked a week at Dockray Meadow earlier this year & was so looking forward to a relaxing holiday in the lakes, however for some reason we didn't quite take to this site. The wardens were lovely, the site was immaculately clean & tidy, as are all the Caravan Club sites but we didn't find it to be the "hidden gem" as described in the write up. We found the pitches to be very short. After giving up on an attempt to pitch up on one plot, we eventually managed to fit on a pitch across the far side of the site, but only just! We only have a single axle caravan so we were surprised at the difficulty in finding a plot big enough to take our caravan. It is definitely imperative to select your pitch wisely on this site as you can feel a little hemmed in on certain pitches, I think this may have been our mistake & probably the reason for not enjoying the site as much as others we have stayed on. Cockermouth is a lovely town, as is Maryport, definitely worth a visit.
Out of this world
A pleasant site, ideal for some R&R away from everything. The Warden’s were very welcoming. Great place to explore The Lakes from and a definite one on the list to return to.
