Great location

We were lucky enough to stay here for 3 nights on warm sunny days. On arrival the best seafront pitches were taken but still managed to get a good pitch, the best pitches became available the next day so asked to move and it was no problem at all. The site is perfect for access to the amazing beach, where you can walk for miles and a great location for visiting attractions. We really enjoyed our stay here. The only downside is the close proximity to the main road where road noise would be a nuisance for the pitches at the back of the site.

Great site on the beach

Great site right on the huge, sandy beach, with some rock pools when the tide was out. Clean, good facilities with a small shop. Some pitches are close to the road (these did not appear particularly flat), which can be noisy during the day but were quiet at night. Only a few pitches have sea views due to the high sand dunes. Within walking distance to the North Sands pub (fab food) and the Rock Rose Distillery. A road walk to Dunnet Head, which was particularly busy with cars and motorhomes passing by, who had chosen to drive and not walk (not our favourite walk as we had to keep getting off the road to let cars etc by), but amazing views once we got to the top. If we were in the area again, we would definitely return to this site.

A lovely site by the beach

We stayed here for 2 nights before going to Orkney on the ferry, then one night on our return before heading off home. The site is clean, tidy etc just like al club sites.. I agree that the pitches roadside can hear traffic but only up to about 9.00 pm when it quietens down. WE had 2 nights in middle of the site and one night roadside. We didn't really notice it at all with a a radio playing. We found it a great site to stop over, visit the Castle of Mey, Forsinard Flows (down a narrow road) and to Dunnet Head (another narrow road with passing places).

Very clean but not ‘tranquil’

We were staying here as a stop off on the way to elsewhere, so just for the one night. A sizeable minority of the pitches are by the main road, and unfortunately for us that’s what we ended up with. But it’s a nice site, private entrance to a beach, spotlessly clean etc. Would stay again if in the area, but if a member wants a good spot they’re recommended to get there early (1pm), which of course isn’t always possible.

Lovely site on the NC500

This is my favourite club site! Arrived late afternoon on a busy BH weekend and still had plenty of pitches to choose from. Staff are welcoming and helpful. Pitches are nicely spread out with plenty of space between units allowing fantastic views of the beach and the sea. There is a huge unspoilt beach on one side of the site and a large forest on the other side, heaven for dog-owners and walkers who love the outdoors. The signs urging dogs not to pee on the grass are rather hilarious, a joke surely?!

Fab site next to a lovely beach

We stayed here. Just for the one night but will be back for more. Location is 10/10, right on the beautiful beach, which is great for families, dog walkers etc. Wardens also fabulous. Don’t be mistaken it is right on the nc500 but still top marks for the site

Not the ‘solitary tranquility’ described

Stayed here in late July, having previously stayed here a few years ago. Solitary tranquility this is not. There is a constant flow of outfits arriving and departing and the site is right next to a busy road, which is part of the NC500 route. The site was full every night we were there and the facilities just aren’t big enough to cope with the volume of guests, most of whom are just passing through and not staying for anything more than one night. It’s a shame as the wardens are lovely and the beach is really nice.

Great site

As I am using my camper van for the tour of Scotland, I booked this site for a couple of nights. I was a little unlucky with the weather, sea mist blowing in and a little damp when it did, the beach is just a few metres from the site, nice sandy beach. Great for surfing and walking, two dog poo bins as you go down the very short walk to the beach so no leaving it on the beach !. Very helpful wardens, clean facilities and as it should be. I have read a review about the beach being dirty, it's not, just normal washed up seaweed the odd dead bird, as can be expected at any beach. The remark for dogs peeing is only on the part where tents are aloud to pitch, (would you if you were using a tent like the grass area being used for a dog peeing area !) so basically keep dogs off that area.

Disappointed

On paper this should be a gem of a site and it does have a lot going got it mainly easy access to the beach but the beach can be quite dirty at times with quite a few decomposing birds and a brown sort of sea grass . The road is very busy and noisy used at times like a race track , The site is clearly used as a stop over so lots of coming snd going The main gripe was the wardens who were not at all friendly. Got the impression they couldn’t be bothered and as dog owners ( and a lot of us staying there were) what we really found offensive was the signs littered round the site stating ‘ no dog peeing on grass’ We presume the wardens wanted dogs to use the toilets or more likely not bring dogs on the site We can only hope signs like these are not endorsed by the club as we have never seen them before
