Pleasant surprise!

Site is managed (not owned) by the Caravan Club, yes, facilities are dated but spotlessly clean! We pitched in the paddock so lovely and peaceful. Main area is mostly used by overnighters to/from Cornwall. Staff were extremely helpful. Used the bus service into Exeter and enjoyed the local walks.

Not the best !

We stayed here for one night on our way home to Cornwall. Although only two hours from home we wanted to visit Dawlish and Teignmouth before going back so overnight-ed at Exeter. I am only comparing this site against other Caravan Club sites. In my opinion Club sites are the best in the country, Exeter doesn't reach that high standard but none the less is a good site. The main issue is the ageing toilet block and outside plate washing area. On a late September evening this was rather chilly. The toilet block itself was warm and very clean (normal for the Caravan Club) just a little cramped and no privacy. The pitch we were on was very exposed and the wind whipped around the van with a vengeance. I would stay here again because although a little sub standard it was a lot better than most non Club sites.

Disappointing

Pros:

Very pleasant heathland setting

Good forest walks and bike rides nearby

Toilet/shower facilities kept spotless by wardens

Helpful wardens

Cons:

Although very clean, toilet block needs some serious money spent to enlarge facility and bring it up to date

Very few hardstanding pitches for size of site

Hilltop site is very exposed so catches winds

Long way out of Exeter

Has a transit camp feel, probably because that's how many people use it - just a night on the way to/from deeper Devon or Cornwall

Site sits between A38 and another major road - expect traffic noise (but this is not unbearable)

We were unable to use a CC 'free night' voucher since CC only manages the site, it doesn't own it

Exeter racecourse

A pleasant surprise, although a major road is within walking distance, you hardly notice it, the site is located in amongst some beautiful heathland, we stayed in the 'paddock', surrounded by trees, you feel very alone here, true the toilet block is a bit of a walk and could do with an update, but overall I would be happy staying for a few days instead of one night.

Good convenient stopover

Can't fault the site for convenience en route to Devon and Cornwall and this naturally means that there is road noise. But the location is really attractive with great walks on the racecourse site and you can stretch your legs after along drive. The facilities are adequate and could do with an upgrade but can't fault the cleanliness. Great information book in reception.

August/September at Exeter Racecourse

My score of 3 for facilities etc is based on the quality of facilities. Loo blocks are very clean BUT showers need improving. They soon get dirty due to the millions of worm deposits on sole of shoes. If long term lease for site is in place then improved facilities should be a priority. Wardens excellent, polite, helpful and most pleasant. For those with Bus Passes travel from the Park & Ride into Exeter is free as is car parking for all. Excellent. Weather was not the best but visiting other locations inland and on the coast ok.

A Welcome Break

After an horrendous 8 hour journey from Lancaster down the M6/M5 motorway we arrived at Exeter Racecourse Club Site at 18.15hrs just as the warden had sat down for her evening meal, Not a problem she said your day sounds a lot worse than mine has been, with a smile on her face as we booked in and was warmly welcomed. We were fortunate to get a pitch that had totally unspoilt views across the Fauna and Flora that grows wild across the centre of this wonderful course that we enjoyed walking around with our Springer Spaniel Maggie-Mou. A fantastic couple of days break on our journey further down into the west country. We look forward to our next stopover there.

Great..

We love this site, predominantly as a transition site for a break for a few days on the way to Cornwall. Spacious, clean loo's, lovely staff. A little noisy from 05:00 due to the A38 being so close.. So What! get up and have a 2 mile walk around the race track perimeter! Great location as a hub for visiting East Devon, Haddon Forest is within a mile and Segways, high tree climbing and even walking is all accessible from here... 5*

Stunning views

We have stayed at this site on many occasions and it is a favourite of the the whole family. The wardens are absolutely lovely and very helpful. This site itself is easy to find and access, even with our large car and caravan. The pitches are a good size for car, caravan and awning and the facilities on site are clean and well presented. There is plenty of space for children to play games, ride bikes or scooters and there is access onto the racecourse for pleasant evening walks. A thoroughly lovely site.

First Night

After a change of plans we booked our first night here to break the journey and to ensure we actually got away for a holiday. The wardens were lovely, friendly and helpful. The site is immaculate, given the storm we had travelled and arrived in. Used the motor mover rather than churn up the pitch needlessly. Facilities were spotless. A great way to enter our new life of caravanning. We will use this site again, for more than a stopover in future.
