half term break

Visited the site for 4 days during October half term. This was our first outing with our new (to us) caravan and the site was recommended to us by my parents - we weren't disappointed. The site was great, the welcome friendly, showers plentiful & clean. We enjoyed hiring bikes, golf, walks, wildlife workshops, steam train and walked to 'The Windmill' pub which has a fab kids playground & good food. All in all a very positive experience - thank you

Lovely break

This was our first visit to ferry meadows after being recommended to it. We were not disappointed, after a warm welcome from the lady warden we set up.  We then explored the country park being half term it was lovely to see the children running, playing and laughing in the beautiful warm sunshine for October. The country park has everything wonderful walks, wildlife, play areas, dog walks, cycle routes, cafe, and gift shop.  The next day we cycled into Peterborough all safe traffic free and a beautiful city. The site was lovely, showers hot and spotless, the steam train running past.  Rutland cycle shop opened this weekend too,  we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back in the summer.  Only grumble was the large gold RV opposite insisted on slamming their car doors 6 times before 7am every morning  not the sites fault just inconsiderate people.

Two weekends here in September.

We visited on consecutive weekends in September as we needed to be in the area. The site is much bigger than we would normally use ,and was a bit of a novel experience.Everything about the site is well up to the usual C.C high standards. The warden team were very pleasant and helpful as we made some unusual demands on them! The site appears to be a dream for families on many levels and it was a bit gauling to see the steam trains going by so regularly and not having the time to ridee!!!!!!!! When we pulled on to the site we instantly got lost in trying to find our pitch due to the size of the site but after a quick lap soon found the pitch. The site is much too big for us but that is not the sites fault.A justly popular site and a jewel in the club crown.

When can I go back?

First, a minor negative, I was bothered some nights by the constant drone of traffic on the nearby A1.   Other than that, all good. Probably the best showers I’ve encountered on a caravan site anywhere, lots of hot water and good pressure (are you watching and learning Buxton CC?)   Very friendly staff, lots of help with local directions and attractions, the heritage railway passing the site was entertaining on steam days. The nearest pub, a Beefeater, is handy, but  far too expensive for us, £4 a pint, £20 for an 8oz steak!!!   It’s a one hour easy walk to Peterborough centre, but if you want the bus, the nearest stop is 20 minutes walk to and from the site. The walk to Alwarton is about half an hour, with a pub and a tea shop for a destination. Alwarton is also the location of East of England Showground. As you can guess, our car didn’t move while we were there. The Nene Valley Park adjacent to the site is a lovely place to walk around, several lakes, two cafes and children’s play areas

a lovely site but....

One our favourite sites with a wonderful location and good facilities. No issues with the level of cleaning in the facilities block but as for all clubsites I wish they would bring back the mop & bucket for cleaning the showers after use ,the squeegee blade is both inefficient on the dimpled tile floor and is unhygienic since there is no way of cleaning off anything which you do manage to wipe so it remains for the next user.

Lovely Site

This is our favourite site and as its only an hour away from home we come here whenever we can get a few days away. Really nice walks in the park and right on the doorstep - don't need to use the car. We have walked into Peterborough and got the train back. Also pubs and garden centre all within walking distance. The wardens are very pleasant and the toilet block is scrupulously clean. We highly recommend this site.

Favourite site!

We have been going to Ferry Meadows for over 25 years, starting on the 'old' site, so that alone should tell you what we think of the site. We love this area with so many old towns and markets to enjoy and we shall continue to come to the site until we stop caravanning-we are both close to our eight decade. The only other site that comes close, in our opinion, is the Malvern Hills site. And of course, we have discovered some very nice places to eat which features strongly in our enjoyment! Also just up the A1 is all the Second World War historical sites you may wish to visit. I am also a keen gardener having an allotment size garden and if you stop and study all the agricultural activities going on around the area and talk to the guys in the fields it can be a very interesting day out. Our grandchildren have also enjoyed the site many times and are always keen to return. So, it is probably true to say it our favourite site and we hope those to come in the future will enjoy it as much as we do. RonGlaGem
