We visited this site as part of a short circular tour of parts of Scotland. The choice of this site was almost by a pin in the map as it suited our tour plans. What a find! We thought this a lovely campsite. In the main it has a circular layout with the really excellent facility block which houses both Reception and toilets. Do people really find music in a toilet block that annoying? Can't say I particularly noticed it, not in there long enough! Given the layout of the site there is a degree of people taking short cuts but not really sure how you stop that. The motorhome service point is at the site entrance and has several open grills for easy disposal of waste water. The site is next to a Country Park which has a good playground for children and plenty of "kick about" space. There is a handy Aldi supermarket a few minutes walk from the site. The Town of Forfar is an easy walk and has most services you will need. Further afield you can visit Dundee by bus should you not have your own transport.
Nice Site
This is a nice site by the Loch. Very well managed and maintained by the wardens. Forfar is an interesting little town and the coast towns are well worth a visit. I agree with other reviewers regarding radio in facilities block. Please switch it off!! The circle of pitches does have the effect of folk walking through pitches to get to the toilets which is an infringement of caravanning site etiquette.
Good for Dogs
As dog owners one of the things we look for are dog walks. We assume toilet block, reception and condition of site will be first class(as it is). The site is adjacent to Forfar Country Park with direct access. Ideal for dogs. The park has a loch with many paths round it and a large area with grass. The site is level and no need for blocks. The wifi is first class but TV requires a wire to the camp system. The piped music in the toilet block did not cause my visit to be ruined!! A convenient site for Dundea and the V & A, SS Discovery and Art Gallery.
Piped commercial radio in the facilities block ruined it for me.
Lovely well kept site, a credit to the wardens. Nice walk of 2.5 miles around the Loch.
However, it’s certainly not for me as I’m one of those that absolutely cannot abide imposed music and irrelevant advertising from a local commercial radio station.
A shower / toilet block should not be a place you need to get in and out of as fast as possible to avoid terrible music and adverts about local divorce lawyers and car dealers. It’s far better to have no forced listening in a shower block and please everyone rather than to have it and infuriate many. I heard an old couple complaining about this very thing with one standing outside waiting for the other to minimise the exposure for themselves. I was pleased to be spending just one night under these imposed circumstances.
Sorry folks, you have got this very wrong, ditch the imposed commercial radio and the site will be dramatically better.

Lovely small well-kept site
- I thought this a pretty little site and enjoyed a three night stay. I had a serviced pitch which was very well-maintained, fresh looking, spacious and well provided for with the usual facilities on neat, well-kept bollards and stands. It is an intimate site but more than half the pitches are arranged around a large, circular green space and in these parts it had the effect of making the site feel much larger than it was and bright and open.
- The remaining pitches are in one loop off this circular road and that seemed a bit cut adrift to me and I would not want to have been in that part.
- The circular arrangement, with all the facilities in one purpose built structure (attractive stonework but very ugly roof) on one side of the circle, does mean that people inevitably cut across the green to the loos, reception, washing up area and so on with the result that people pass between pitches regularly. Though sometimes mildly irritating this has to be accepted as fair game, but it does mean the chances of ignorant people walking across one’s pitch is also greater than usual. Hence, presumably, the angry review further down this page. I empathize with this gentleman. For me, walking on other people’s pitches is the apex of bad site-etiquette.
- I liked the small unassuming town of Forfar. Fairly typically dour, it was, nonetheless, friendly and warm.
- I took the bus to Dundee which I liked. I walked around the loch; this is not the most attractive you’ll see but it provides a short bracing walk in Scottish rain – the conditions at the time. The path is not well kept in parts, but not too muddy.
- There are no less than four supermarkets within walking distance – including both the German discounters. The site is not immediately adjacent to the loch as the CMC blurb might make you believe, but this did not much matter.
- All in all a pleasant stay and I would happily return here again.
Another great visit
This is probably our favourite site, we visit it 2 or 3 times a year Phil & Kris are always very welcoming and helpful, the site is alway immaculate and facilities spotless. We would recommend anyone who has not given it a try to make a point to visit. Everything is on hand, good variety of shops and amenities would recommend you try the traditional Forfar Bridie.
Site also ideal for people with dogs, large park and Forfar loch next to site with 2.5 mile walk around. There is no doubt we will return time and time again.
Great Site
My husband and I had a great few days back in July on this site, it is very clean and well kept, the wardens and very friendly. Town centre not to far to walk with everything that you need. The site sits on a lovely Loch which is either great for cycling or walking round. Overall very good site and we will definitely be back soon.
Cracking wee site
This was our first time at this site, and won’t be our last. It’s a beautiful site, well laid out, and meticulously kept, by Phil and Kris, the fantastic wardens, whose welcome could not have been bettered.
Forfar is a great wee town, with a wide range of shops, all within walking distance, and there are 4 supermarkets all within 5 minutes walk.
There is a lovely 2 1/2 mile Loch walk, which is flat so great for walkers or cyclists. There is also a play park just outside the site.
Highly recommended.
Forfar Lochside site
First time at this site and was very impressed. With the new AWPR, it is easy to get to as we no longer have to go through Aberdeen.
Site was very well kept and the wardens and relief wardens were all excellent, were friendly and welcoming.
Short walk to the town which has plenty of shops.
Nice, level route for cycling around the loch.
We would recommend this site to anyone and will definitely be back in the future.

Excellent site in a great location but...........
Why do dog owners feel the need to exercise their dogs on site, this is not acceptable and all of you bad owners tarnish all of us good owners with the same brush. Walk your dog properly off site; there are plenty of walk so no excuse for this. Another gripe is people continually cutting through pitches and not just the grass, through the hardstanding; NOT ACCEPTABLE, THINK OF OTHERS, STOP BEING LAZY AND WALK AROUND.
This is great site spoiled by a few selfish people.
Spotless facilities with pleasant wardens. Great walk around the Loch.
