A peaceful site close to a wonderful beach

This was our first stay and to be honest before we arrived I was a little apprehensive after reading the comments. Yes, the rules and wardens are there for a purpose, but they were very polite with me, even after I changed my pitch. When we arrived there were only grass pitches available, these were on a slope and quite muddy so I tried to find the most level and least muddy one. Fortunately directly opposite were hard standing pitches and a motorhome owner told me he was leaving the next morning, so I took his pitch. When I informed the wardens there was no problem at all. Now onto to the toilet blocks. They were immaculate and in the large block there were 7 showers so it was never full. Whole site - very narrow with several levels, and LOTS of trees overhanging that could do with a trim. I parked under a tree on a visit to a previous site thinking it would help keep cool, but all it did was the birds used my roof of my van and awning as a toilet!!! so don't park under trees!! If you want to walk to the beach, then try and get a pitch closer to the entrance as if you are at the back of the site on the lower level then it will be a long trek. I have seen people on reviews moaning about the dog walk. There is an ample one between levels and plenty of room to walk the dog first thing in the morning to save soiling pitches, before you go out for the day. Wifi - as mentioned it is practically non existent, unless you hang around the front of the toilet block. I didn't want to hang around too long for obvious purposes!!! But saying this, you do not go on holiday to sit on your phone all day do you? If you do, then go somewhere else. The site is right at the bottom of the hill over the road from the beach and next door is a superb pub called Jacks at the Longhouse, which was lovely. Ideal for visiting Pembroke. No shops nearby but a petrol station that has a version of Budgens in it in nearby Lamphey. I would happily go there again, mainly for the stunning beach and coast nearby

Fresh to Freshwater.

This was our first visit to this site and were impressed by both the location and the ambiance. It is fair to say that the Club’s rules and regulations are strictly enforced and whilst this is to be applauded a more relaxed and friendly face could be shown by the wardens. That said we had no issues with them though we heard first hand of others that did. The lower level of pitches at the far end of the site are rather dark being overhung by trees and many who originally pitched there moved elsewhere when an opportunity arose. We continue to use only our own onboard facilities and so are unable to comment on the toilet/shower blocks but they appeared ok from the outside. The location is superb for both the beach and the other natural attractions of the Pembrokeshire coast. The nearest supermarket shopping is 5 miles distant in Pembroke, a pleasant town with a fine castle worthy of a visit. We liked the site so much that we extended our stay to ten days in all and wouldn’t hesitate to return on another trip to S. Wales.

Nice site with great beach access

We stayed for 7 nights in September. Care is needed when choosing a pitch, some are in shade and some in sun (when it’s shining!) so depending on personal preferences you need to take note of this. When we arrived it was raining and we there were only grass pitches available which were quite muddy because of recent heavy rain. Our pitch turned out to be in the shade which was a shame because when the good weather returned we weren’t able to sit in the sun although other pitches were in full sun. This is not a criticism of the site, it’s just something to be aware of if you have a few pitches to choose from. The site has 2 toilet blocks. We were in the top row of pitches and the nearest toilet block to us was large with plenty of showers and toilets. The toilet block was modern with lovely showers and spotlessly clean. T.V. Signal was fine and internet was good. We didn’t get a phone signal. The surrounding area is very pretty, rolling fields and lovely views. A lovely beach is just over the road from the site entrance and dogs were allowed. Also next to the site is a very nice holiday home complex (it was quiet) with a bar/restaurant open to the public. Pembroke Dock is about 10 minutes away by car and has plenty of large supermarkets. This is really a nice site, only word of caution is to choose your pitch carefully according to preference for sun or shade.

One of the best

Beautiful site. Well located for dog friendly beaches, 5 minute walk to the beautiful freshwater east beach. Friendly and very helpful staff. No mobile signal in the area at all so if you need WiFi check with the management because it wasn’t working on part of the site while we were there. Lovely pub in the village. Great showers

Dissapointed - but can see why others would like it

Not for us but can appreciate why others love this site. It's in a good location for visiting the Pembrokeshire area (we went as far as St Davids and visited Haverfordwest, Milford Haven Waterfront, Tenby, Saundersfoot and Manorbier Beach. You can walk out of the site gate and cross the road directly onto the dunes or down onto FW East beach. I tend to book using the club app and have now realised how much info is missing from there. One key thing for us is phone signal and there is none (I know some would see that as a blessing). The app doesn't mention that there is no signal though on checking later it does say in the book (the wardens were as surprised as us and promised to let hq know so the app can be updated). The club wifi was available, for free, but is really patchy, very slow and no good for streaming (eg iPlayer) or at times even for simple browsing. There was no info about it being available and i just "found it" by chance after a couple of days! To add to that we arrived, pitched and set up the awning then, having discovered the TV signal wasn't just "poor" as stated but actually none existent, I went to plug into the booster system instead. I found a note on the bollard stating that it wasn't working and wouldn't be until half way through our week there. I'm a bit dissapointed this want mentioned to us at check in as there were other pitches available when we had arrived. Finally the dog walk was once again a big disappointment. On the site plan it looks big but it's actually just a muddy path under the trees with no grass area and very little room for passing anyone with a nervous or boisterous dog. With three small dogs it's a long walk (from one end of the site to the exit) to get to the beach/dunes when you just want a quick last walk of the day before bed. I did see another review suggesting pitching nearer the exit/reception but they're not always available. The path on the dog walk is also very uneven and full of roots and rocks. I have previously suggested the club somehow rate the "on site dog walk" to give a better idea of what's available as there is a massive variation between sites. Only used facilities twice but they were spotless. So, as I said, for us this wasn't a great experience (and it rained 3 out of 7 days) but, if you know there's no phone signal before you arrive, and that there's only a limited range of tv channels (and you've got your cable) and you have no need for an on site dog walk then this is a good base for the area with easy, main road access. I think it would make an excellent site for walkers as the coastal path passes the exit.

One of our top five sites

Stayed on this site for 4 nights last week and had a great time. Lots of children about but all well behaved, facilities spotless, everything very clean and tidy and the wardens were very friendly and hard working. I must admit was a little surprised about some of the previous comments that had been left, but none witnessed or experienced by us - quite the contrary. As so many people have said already, the beach is so close and easily accessible. Had a great day out at Folly Farm. very good value. not at all packed and my grand daughter loved it. Back again, child free in a couple of weeks - can't wait.

Lovely site

We stayed here for 4 nights and found it absolutely lovely, the wardens were friendly and kept everything clean and as it should be, you have a lovely clean beach right on your doorstep (5 minute walk) a lovely pub (Freshwater inn) that is either a steep walk up the road or accessible from the beach but still a fairly steep climb that serves great food plus you are right on the coastal path. The site is quite long and narrow but we didn't see this as a problem as you get to choose where you pitch so if you don't want to or don't like to walk then pitch near entrance....... simple!

Perfect location for beach holiday however some issues

This was our third visit. It's a good location for beach holidays as you can walk to Freshwater East beach, not much else there except the usual coastal path. There is a pub close by, but we dod not visit. Few issues we had this year are dogs! Too many of them! Owners letting them do their business on pitches! Not ideal when you have kids who like to sit on the grass by the pitch to play. I think dogs have outnumber children on CAMC sites and you should charge a fee per dog and if children made as much noise as dogs, it would be frowned upon. Another issue is the number of rented campers using CAMC sites, they are a different breed, next to us was a rented camper, smoking weed and had a huge fire going in a firepit, why? I have no idea as it was the hottest week of the year! I'm quite open minded but, please, go wild camping or something similar! All in all it was an enjoyable stay and the site is quiet during the night as there is no road noise. Lovely sunset and a good play area for the kids. Wardens were ok, bit strict and impersonal

Perfect beach site

The site is such a short walk from the beautiful Fresh Water beach. We have very young children and the site had a wonderful play area and we spent most of our time on the beach. Lovely site.

Nowhere better in good weather!

We stayed here for a week 20 - 27 July so were fortunate that most of our days were hot and sunny, so being able to walk to the beach and swim in the sea to cool down was a definite bonus! In fact the hot weather meant that we didn't get round to some of the walks and visits we had planned, so will need to return. The major problem with this site, as mentioned by many previous reviewers is the lack of either internet or phone signal. It seems crazy that nothing has been done to address this, as the TV boosters find only the most basic of channels, and not even radio 2! We don't go on holiday in order to sit on our phones or surf the internet, and we don't both with Netflix etc at home so wouldn't do so on holiday, but these days there is a definite need to be able to keep in touch. You can get a good 4g signal on the beach..... and on the coastal walk, and the internet can surely be upgraded - it literally took 10 minutes each day for my newspaper to download the written part, and it was totally hit and miss whether the pictures/illustrations ever downloaded. This was our only negative. The wardens were efficient and smiley, the site was beautifully kept, the service pitches we were on were very good size.
