A Surprise

I was pleasantly surprised having stayed on other race course sites over the years. The Toilet block I consider the best, modern clean, but a little step back in having plastics stools in the showers, a bit of a surprise where refurbished showers are provided with a bench. The beach in one direction or the park and river in the other direction, both within a few minutes walk for the nimble, a little longer for those of more senior years, both great for relaxing. I'm always a bit suspicious when there are no separated recycling facilities on site. We are told place everything in one bin, and it's sorted after collection by the appointed external, local authority contractor! Really? Biggest down on this site, the sandy ground, what a mess can be created when the ground is damp. Wet sand accompanied by dead grass/weed/moss gets stuck to anything that comes into contact with it. Biggest up on this site, The Wardens, most helpful and doing a brilliant job

Great site

We had a warm welcome at Great Yarmouth from the Wardens. The site is big and very open but there is a good space between each pitch. The ground is sandy and therefore easy to pitch an awning. It is a great place for the beach at both Great Yarmouth and Caister on Sea with good walks to either. There is a short walk to the Greyhound Stadium and it also doubles as a stadium for Banger Racing. We enjoyed our time here and would recommend it.

Only CMC site I’ve been disappointed with.

Clean, tidy and functional but overpriced and scruffy. Lovely wardens but even their enthusiasm can’t polish the site which is nothing but a scruffy area on the inside of a racecourse with a clean shower lock. I’d have been content if this had been Β£20 but it was Β£35. Avoid and spend your money on two nights on a CL instead.

Unexpected Stay

We were booked in with Parkdean for a week but due to the pitch being unsafe to pitch due to contamination, nothing else was available. We took a chance as members and called Great Yarmouth, the wardens went above and beyond to try to accommodate us at such late notice. We have had the most fabulous time at the site, the site was clean and the showers we never busy. We found it easy to get around by bike, bus or on foot. If you get a chance go to the Hippodrome Circus you will not be disappointed. We were fortunate to be staying during horse racing, we watched from our pitch and we lucky enough to win our first race.

Nice and casual . sea front walk to Town

We stayed two nights on a pitch by the race course railings. Ground is all grass but well used so dont expect a bowling green surface . Pitches are well spaced and so easy for all to line up with room for awnings etc. Toilet block was very well fitted and typical c&MHC standard. Wardens really nice and very welcoming . Found a NISA store at the next door HAVEN HOLIDAY PARK. A really family friendly resort is Great Yarmouth . Walked in . few beers . had a meal and home again . Wide sand dunes all the way until nearing the centre. Enjoyed the Pier most .

Nice Stay

Stayed here for a few days recently. Really big wide roads on the approach, across the horse racing track into the site. As usual the wardens were amazing - very helpful and friendly. Washrooms were immaculate during our stay and covid safe. We didn't need to queue very often to used the facilities which was lovely. Some reviewers grumble about the standard of the grass on the pitches. I can see where they are coming from - the classic perfect grass lawn is not here at Great Yarmouth. But, in defence of the CC, this site had a very sandy soil so probably not the best place in the UK to try to grow grass, especially with the camping traffic a popular site like this generates. And in all honesty the free draining soil meant we did not get stuck in the October mud and no puddles in the grass so in our opinion the mainly grassy pitches were a great compromise between practicality and aesthetics. No protection from the wind as the site is very open plan. We found the wind was blowing alot during our visit and there was no getting away from it as there are no bushes or trees to act as a wind break. This meant a few times our sleep was disrupted by wind noise and our motorhome rocking in the wind. Not a disaster but worth considering if you are visiting like us, out of season. If you want to visit Great Yarmouth is is an easy level walk or cycle to the town. We loved the "kiss me quick" atmosphere of the town. Plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to visit AND they have Ceasars Palace (Las Vegas anyone?) plus Joyland - what more could you ask for!!!

Thank you!

Wanted to sincerely thank the Wardens for making our first experience a good one. They could not have explained everything more and made everything easier if they tried and it is very much appreciated. Facilities were very clean and we were made to feel most welcome. Lovely 10 min walk to the very quiet sandy beach was just what we needed - thank you! Looking forward to revisiting again on raceday.
