Great visit to GY Site

Enjoyed a great week at the Great Yarmouth site. The site wardens (Sally and Steve) visible and reassuring presence on site. Toilet block kept immaculate and we felt safe throughout our holiday. We all (especially our 3 year old granddaughter) thoroughly enjoyed the excitement of our day at the races. Used the Tesco Click and Collect - this worked really well. Our visit was centred on the beach - easy access from the site. Great local flat cycling. Hope you all enjoy your stay as much as we did.

1st Trip this year

First trip out this year, checked with the club via Facebook regarding pitches and how they are allocated pitches as my caravan is 7.9 m (twin axle), was assured that the wardens would pick up on the size of the van on the booking system, I know from experience that some pitches here can be tight for the size of van I’ve got. When arrived they was only a few pitches left, luckily one of those had plenty of room, the others near the playground i struggle with. Can’t comment on the toilet block and facilities as we decided to use our own, but talking to others on site, they are very clean and Covid secure. Since when did tents become part of the Caravan and Motorhome Club? They are trialling (what I was told by the wardens on checking in) the tent camping pitches on this site, they have however put them where I know is a very popular pitch area for vans especially on the Eastern Festival racing week. It’s a great site for couples and families alike, with local facilities, beach and pubs and entertainment a short walk away.

Great site

The site is very clean, tidy and welcoming. Check in was easy and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The wash facilities appear new, modern and were spotless throughout. The showers were good and warm at all times. The wash rooms currently have a three person only rule which allows for easy social distancing and it was clear the toilets and showers in use were rotated through the day. Very much Covid secure. Cannot speak highly enough of the site staff who made us feel welcome throughout. The site is close enough to Great Yarmouth for a decent walk in and very close to a large and virtually empty beach. The site has a small field just behind the reception area which can be used for short dog walks or just a short walk away is the large and inviting beach area perfect for dogs. We will certainly come back to the site again and highly recommend it.

great wardens

Sadly our stay at this lovely site has come to an early end. hopefully we will return after June. I cannot praise the wardens enough. They were professional throughout our short stay. Both have fantastic personalities and work hard to keep the site clean and tidy. The artistic touches are something to be looked forward to.

Fantastic Time at GY Racecourse

I have stopped at the racecourse site a number of times this year. The welcome you get by the wardens is so nice, and they will be missed next year. Facilities are immaculate, so clean. I tend to pitch away from the main toilet block as travel with 3 cocker spaniels so are normally out on the right hand side of the site as you drive in. For me coming to Great Yarmouth is like going home as my Dad came from Gorleston. I love it, you are close to the bus stop if you need to go into town or out to Caister. You only have to walk across the old railway bridge and the sea and Denes are in front of you. Once you are down on the beach you can walk for miles both ways and no restrictions on dogs until you get past the Britannia Pier in GY. You can also catch the Landtrain that runs from the Haven site to Britannia Pier, either by flagging them down or catching on the way back, and they are so good at dropping me off at the Iron Duke (which is an old pub that has seen better days). Love the place so much that I plan to move there, but for now I've got my dates for 2020 and can't wait for the site to open again.

Fantastic site.

This has to be one of the best sites we have been on in the UK, wardens are really helpful nothing seemed a problem. The washing/shower areas are brilliant and spotless The area is great for bikes,no hills if you turn right out of site and only a small one if you do a left, great pub yards away just across road from site. All in all a fan 4day stay

Great site apart from chip van

Excellent site great for family fun days on a race day. Shame that when we arrived we found that a chip van was on site on the Saturday. We decided to give it a try and wish we hadn't. I have a lactose intolerance and asked the woman who it transpired was the daughter. She had no idea so asked the man that was cooking it who I found out was the father. Well I'm glad I don't have a dad like that. He was very obnoxious towards her and didn't care that I was asking, he wasn't prepared to even check. My husband is a very tolerant man but on this occasion even he couldn't deal with the attitude. So we walked into town and tried a few chip shops but they couldn't accomodate me but were very helpful. We ended up in McDonald's! However this would not stop us from coming back to the site we just won't be going to the chip van. The wardens were great too.

Comment from the Club:

The owner of the chip van has been in touch as he was very concerned to read your review and wanted to clear up any misunderstanding as he works hard to ensure his customers are happy with their service. He misheard you and thought you had asked for gluten free batter which unfortunately they don't do. He thought he had advised in a friendly manner that unfortunately they didn't have gluten free batter but apologies if you thought this was not the case.

Good site and wonderful wardens.

This was our second stay this year. Lots to do in the area and our grandchildren love it. Although we use our own facilities there is a spotlessly clean toilet block with washing cubicles and showers, which is heated. The reception sell ice cream, toilet fluids etc. and the adjacent static site has a small supermarket. The wardens are very friendly and helpful without over regulation. I was ashamed to see that other site users made life difficult for them by putting dog poo and the remains of take-away food in recycling bins, as well as shards of broken glass. We also experienced two race days and a Beatles tribute band whilst there, at no cost.

Fantastic site and staff

We have stayed at this site every year since we bought our caravan 13 years ago. It suits our needs for facilities and variety of things to do at Great Yarmouth and around. The site and the facilities are spotless. I use the disabled room for my son, which is a very good size and has all the facilities you need. Over the years we have had to ask the site for help for different issues/problems and they have always been very helpful and friendly. You can't drive through when the races are on (understandably), so we just work our way around it - it isn't a problem. It's actually quite nice to hear the entertainment that follows the races on some evenings - it isn't too loud to be annoying on the part of the site we usually set up. Unfortunately, the only thing that will stop us coming, or reduce the time we spend here, will be the cost - they have just increased the cost this year which is forcing us to reluctantly look at CL sites - otherwise we would be back here like a shot.
