This ia a quiet well kept and very clean site. It is an ideal base for exploring local historical sites of interest and National Trust properties. There are some good dog walks close by.

Clean, Perfect for a challenging cycling ride
This site in quite a remote area, but is a well kept site and the facilities are excellent. We are cyclist and so cycled, although it is hilly we found the cycle route quiet and managed to go to Taunton for the day Lyme Regis. We went for the August Bank Holiday and had no problem whatsoever with the facilities 'top marks all round'. The only thing I would say is it may not be suitable for children as there is not a lot to do in the actual area, but an excellent base if your happy to drive to the coast. Couple of nice pubs in easy cycling/riding distance if you fancy a meal out and the people who run the site are helpful and will give you the local information on where to find everything. Overall a lovely peaceful well kept site and worth a visit.
Peaceful-ish...
If you're looking for peace and quiet, this could be the one for you.
I say this even though some neighbours felt it necessary to sit outside their motorhome chatting well into the early hours!
There's no nearby bus stop, or shops, so you'll be driving. Chard is the nearest town, about ten minutes away, but do visit Honiton, and definitely do not miss Exeter and Taunton, all within half an hour.
The new facilities block is a great improvement on previously, and my only criticism there is that there weren't enough private cubicles, particularly on a Bank Holiday weekend. Presumably, it'd be OK at most other times.
There's a friendly welcome, and the area is clean and tidy, which is all good news, but this is a site that we feel fits into the 'not very exciting' category.
Of course, as we all have differing ideas of the ideal requirements, this may tick all of your boxes, but this is not a site that we can get enthusiastic about.
WARNING: The entry to and from the nearby A303 is difficult at the best of times, and in either direction, but it's really the only way to get to, or leave, the place. It's not recommended for nervous or inexperienced motorists...
Great site, excellent facilities!
This is a lovely, well maintained site. It is well laid out and has spotlessly clean facilities. The site is very green with lovely mature trees and has pretty flower tubs. It is easily accessible as it is close to the A303 but far enough away so that you are not disturbed by traffic noise. We have stayed here at different times of the year and have always found it to be perfect for a week or twos break. The surrounding area is very diverse with the Blackdown Hills, the Somerset Levels, Taunton, Chard, Ilminster and Dunster, to name but a few. It has many beautiful countryside walks but it is also only a short drive to the coast and is in close proximity to a number of National Trust properties. There are so many things to do and see in this area it is not just a stop off point to break your journey to Cornwall. The wardens here are always helpful and cheerful. We have had need of their help on a couple of occasions and they stepped in to help without hesitation. It is a gem! You can sit and while away the hours on site in perfect peace or explore Somerset and Devon from a convenient base. Go try it, you won't be disappointed.
A good overnight stop
This is a pleasant site and a convenient point to break the journey from London area down to Cornwall, but we find it a bit pricey for an overnight when you have no need of facilities other than water.

Great little site
Enjoyed four days on this excellent little site. Spotlessly clean toilet block. Quiet and peaceful. Good stop over as its just off the 303. All in all top marks!

Peaceful site
This site is peaceful and pleasant to stay on. The facilities are good and well kept. It's a good location for reaching the coast. We didn't know about the local pub mentioned in the previous review...if we had our stay would have been even better!
short summer break
a really nice site, very friendly staff and nicely laid out pitches. will go back again - the local pub (the Flintlock) does really nice meals and a great atmosphere.
- Highly recommended.
Peaceful holiday but lots of things to do round about
We have been to the Ilminster CC site several times and always enjoy our stay. We were surprised how empty it was during our stay in August and had a lovely open pitch with nobody around us. We find Ilminster easy to reach (seconds from the A303 but no traffic noises) and good to use as a base for sightseeing. This visit took us to The Buckham Fair on the hills above Beaminster (fabulous views) which is organised by and held on land belonging to the actor Martin Clunes and his wife; a fabulous day out for a £5 pp entry fee and we saw Doc Martin and his little Jack Russell.
On another day we drove up to Porlock Weir on the coast (beautiful and not too touristy, nice pub and gift shop and about an hours drive from the site) and wandered around in the glorious sunshine and saw Ben Fogel filming something for Countrywise. Quite a star studded week! We also went to Sidmouth to see the donkeys but didn't see anyone famous there apart from Gareth the donkey who grinned at us. The Donkey Sanctuary is FREE to enter, there's easy access for wheel chairs, things to do for the children, a restaurant and gift shop. Dogs ARE allowed AND there are NO car parking charges. Worth a visit everyone, it was so lovely we could have gone back every day. We were asked if we wanted to adopt Gareth for £24 per year but there wasn't room in the caravan or the boot of the car to take him home but the staff (lovely, gentle folk) pointed out that Gareth wouldn't be coming home with us to live in our garden but would remain in the sanctuary but would keep in touch by email and he'd send us a photo of himself in the post.
Yes, next year or before, we'll be back at lovely old Ilminster to see Gareth and his friends and try out some more of the wonderful places to visit in Somerset and Devon.
