First stop in England returning from Scotland

We arrived on 20th July for 6 nights the site was not to busy so there where plenty of pitches. The wardens were very friendly and the toilet blocks were all very clean I agree with some of the other comments the access road to the site is narrow and certainly needs resurfacing the roads around the site where in good order. The pitches are set in small glades and some of them can be dark due to lack of sun light some pruning of trees around these glades if where cut back a bit then the light could get through it won't take much to do. Unfortunately most pitches did not have any grass to sit on. On the last night of our stay one of the locals came calling and ended up in our flip top waste bin when I went out to see what the comtion turned out it was a large hedgehog nothing to sinster.

Peaceful Break

We came to this site on a circular tour using CL's and Club Sites. This site was very good and would use it again, the welcome and information on arrival was very good. The warning about arrival useful, we try to never arrive at any site, but it Club or CL until after 12:00 or the stated arrival time. The only blip on this trip was as we were leaving along with a couple of other vans at about 11:00hrs some idiot with a large caravan met us on the entrance road coming in, we all got passed each other eventually but I do wish some members would read and NOTE the arrival time details. This site is a little shady due to being in a wood but we found a pitch with some sunlight, and being in a small bay thoroughly enjoyed our stay, met some very nice people as well as the good wardens and as stated earlier hope to get back again some time.

Excellent peaceful site!

We spent one night only at this site, on our return from Scotland to the south of England. It was really peaceful and we slept soundly. The site is set in trees by a river and the pitches are in spaces between the trees. The facilities were spotless and the staff were very polite and friendly. We would definitely use this site again.

A stopover while travelling south

Myself and the family had a single night stay at Kendal before travelling to the peak district. Initially we thought the site was very picturesque and peaceful; and we had been planning to stay for a week on the return leg back to Scotland. However, I'm not sure if it was because we were only staying for one night, but the pitches that we were requested to choose from were either difficult to manoeuvre our caravan into (we don't have a motor mover) or not level and quite uneven. The pitch we eventually chose only gave us enough room for the caravan and car. It was a lovely night but had no place to sit. I must say that the two gentlemen staying in the adjacent pitches were very helpful getting our caravan unhitched and pushed into position, thanks guys. As expected from a caravan club site, the toilet facilities, food preparation and dishwashing areas were spotless and walking around the site we did see some really nice spots near the river and down the hill from were we were. I would suggest that when making a booking to request one of these pitches. Unfortunately for us, first impressions are usually lasting impressions and this site is not for us and we changed our booking for the return journey.

Kendal calling.

This is a fantastic well maintained site with a variety of pitches to allow privacy or open space. The site team are friendly and knowledgeable and its location is an ideal base for exploring the Lake District. Great for dogs with good dog site walks and easy access to local walks. The adjacent river is very clean and great for your dogs swimming.

Lovely secluded site

We stayed for two nights en route from Essex to Scotland. Lovely secluded glades separate the areas.  Lots of trees which blocked sun but beautiful and picturesque site with running river through the site - our dog loved it. Spotlessly clean facilities and we never queued for toilets or showers. A great stop over site. Would definitely recommend. Our very helpful neighbour kindly helped us out with a water pump as ours didn't work.... Thank you!

woodland heaven

I disagree with some recent reviews. This is a beautiful site. It is like being in the middle of a forest, with most pitches separated into little woodland glades. There were only four other caravans where we were and we couldn't see anyone else till we drove or walked out of the site. It was hard to believe there were so many other campers, it was so peaceful. Yes, we did have a bit of a walk to the toilets but it was a very pretty stroll. I would say, if you don't like trees, don't come here! But if you enjoy a pleasant, shady walk along the river to the nearest pub, through  wonderful countryside then this is for you!

Disappointing site

This large site is built into the side of a hill and therefore it is not flat. Unless you know the geography of the place it is rather complicated to find a suitable pitch. The lower part of the site is in woodland and quite oppresive and little sunshine gets through. The upper reaches are more open but are situated a fair distance from the toilet blocks. A lot of pitches are surrounded by nettles and ferns and little has been done to smarten the place up,(probably National Trust policy). However the wardens are extemely friendly and helpful and the facilities are up to a high standard. On the whole we were disappointed with this site and, regretably, we will not be returning.

Over rated

We stayed at Kendal recently and we have to say that we were under whelmed. Whilst the woodland is lovely, it's narrow lanes and crowded pitches were a real pain. The road leading out were far too narrow and you find yourself risking a collision either with the woods or another vehicle. Very enclosed and fussy. Noises at the week ends also. We won't be going back. Sorry

Lovely site

We arrived on Saturday and were welcomed by the friendly wardens. Booking in was fast and easy and we were given a map and advice on pitches. The site was extremely busy, in fact it was due to be full that night, so we drove round trying to find a pitch with a good amount of daylight but most of these had gone. Eventually on our second drive round we spotted a lovely isolated pitch in a little group of 5 pitches. The setting is beautiful but in my opinion just a bit too overgrown. Some of the pitches were in darkness all day! Water and waste was right beside our little corner so extremely handy for refilling and emptying. The toilet block was quite a walk away but this didn't bother us, except the day it poured! The toilets were spotless and the showers were fantastic. The shop was well stocked and the cream tea offer was amazing! The wardens gave my son his explorer book and sent us off on a trail. When finished he returned to get his prize and a pat of the gorgeous resident border terrier! The wardens made my son so welcome but we still come away feeling that other members give him disapproving looks for daring to play which is a shame, these 7 year olds could one day be the lifeblood of your club! Kendal Club site is perfectly positioned for exploring or just relaxing and watching the world go by, with some more coppicing it could be the perfect site. We will definitely return.
