Rules

Having read the latest magazine and the info about power cables I was reminded of what I saw at the Knaresborough site. My friend and I have both been approached on different sites because we were a couple of inches off with the marker on the pitch. The Wardens were correct and we adjusted the position of our vans. On the Knaresborough site I noticed a caravan which looked to be two feet or more off the two markers the car was parked on the awning side of the caravan and the electricity cable was not completely unwound. This remained the case for the final few days of my stay. The position of caravan, car and unwound cable was therefore an hazard to users of the site. Apart from that the site was as good as we have come to expect from club sites, we were pleased to see a restaurant and bar on the site which I would love to see on more sites.

Glad we never cancelled.....

After reading the recent reviews we were very dubious as to whether we should come to the site or change our booking. We decided to give it a go and did not regret it one bit. The assistant wardens made us feel extreme welcome, although it might have been our dramatic entrance that broke the ice. The Bistro was open, hours are limited but its due to staffing, which shouldn't reflect on the site experience. The staff in the bistro are lovely and the food is great. One of the best veggie pizza's my wife has ever had. We are really looking forward to returning in the new year. Thanks to the site and the bistro for a great stay.

Misleading site information causing disappointment

We visited here from 12th-15th Sept, we booked it due to the fact it has a bar/restaurant on site, as I have limited mobility so it would be a bonus, and it also stated there was bus stops at the gate to York and Knaresborough. However, when we arrived the bar/restaurant is closed with a note saying ‘closed 7th Sept until further notice’ and there are bus stops however the buses are every 2 hours so only 3 in the day as the last one back is 5.30! Very disappointing! I feel the site information online needs updating to reflect this and also the prices lowering accordingly. I feel we should have been advised by email that the facilities would not be open allowing us to cancel if we wanted to. This is the first time in the 20 odd years we have been members that I have felt it necessary to complain but I feel other members need to be aware.

Very Disappointed

I have waited a long time to book this site and managed to book In January for September having read good reviews. Firstly the blocking off the site entrance and telling people to park in a town about 5 miles away, we arrived at 12.55 and could not get in . There is plenty of room at the entrance of site for 3 to 4 units. Having finally let in we found the staff not very friendly and found this throughout our stay. Secondly the bistro was not open and it looked as though it had not been open for a while and does not look like it will open soon. Why on earth did the club spend all the money on building that bistro instead of spending on refurbishing the toilet blocks probably. Thirdly the information room had nothing in it and the reception surely could sell some essentials. Looks as though the staff cannot be bothered. We have been members for over 25 years and I have never written a bad review but we will not be returning to this site.

Disappointed

We visited Thurs 1st September for the weekend. We hurriedly set up and popped across to The Wanderer at 4pm for a meal and a drink. It was our wedding anniversary & we were so disappointed to find it open, but for takeaway food only. There was no mention of this on the website; said may have limited opening times (which it did) but said eat in or takeaway. The site is immaculate but there was a good deal of noise from a barking dog at the residential area next door, from early morning til night. We have visited for over ten years but won’t be returning to pay £103 for 3 nights when the bistro is now closed altogether!

Mid week break.

A great small site, central for a lot of historic sites and gardens. Standards of facilities and cleanliness above average even for the club. Pitches are very level and well kept. The site is smaller than average IMHO and be aware there's little or no screening between pitches

Great site, so glad we didn’t cancel

We stayed at this site last year and loved it so was quite worried to read the recent bad reviews, to the point we looked at booing another site But it was bank holiday and every where was full so decided to make the best of it I am so so glad we still went because we have had the best time We stayed on a normal pitch with awning close to the bistro and much preferred that section of the site Close to all the amenities of water, waste emptying, toilet, showers etc Didn’t bother us one bit that the bistro wasn’t open, although I understand the appeal, as we walked to the local village pub (7 min walk) which was guy Fawkes lovey little pub Yes the site is not close to town but it’s a five min driver I recommend the waterside car park very cheap ans close to the river Also the staff we lovely on site extremely friendly I do agree it would be nice for reception to stock milk eggs ice cream for the kids but it wasn’t the end of the world We will be coming back again 100%

Should not be called Knaresborough site as it is miles from Knaresborough

The Knaresborough site was great for us as we have a dog and there are lots of walks from site. The site was clean and the shower block was great. We booked the site as it has a bar / restaurant on site and was one of its big attractions. Unfortunately it was closed the entire time we were there. Luckily there was a pub close. The site says it is motorhome friendly but does not have a shop on site for basic provisions. If you like walking this is a great site. It is not motorhome friendly as it has no shop on site and the closest is in Knaresborough. Knaresborough is either a 40 minute walk along the roads or 1 hour and 15 minutes through the forest by the river. So to call this a Knaresborough club site is a bit misleading.

First visit and fin Italy not our last

First visit to Knaresborough Club Site. Thought staff were lovely, very welcoming. We were on a fully serviced site which was great. Sadly we had a family next to us who were part of a larger group who had many children who were on scooters, bikes etc. thundering past us every morning and after 10 p.m. every night. They even decided to bbq in the middle of the road. The area was lovely and walks from the site brilliant. The Wanderer was only open limited hours and for take-aways - great facility and lovely way to meet people. (Lovely staff). Facilities were very clean and good. With a site of this calibre was amazed there wasn't a shop selling the very minimum of requirements i.e. milk / bread - real miss with this site. We were unlucky with our neighbours but thought the site was well kept and in a great location. Will definitely return in the future.

Dissapointed

We were looking forward to our stay here as we had been previously however this time left feeling very disappointed. We cannot fault the care and cleanliness of the site and it's facilities apart from the bar. I knew on booking it was undergoing refurbishment whist we were there but was led to believe that takeaways would be available. We were also unaware that the shop no longer stocks any supplies at all, milk, bread etc especially as there is no shop in the village. I came away thinking that the staff just couldn't be bothered. Having said that they were polite.
