Fabulous service

We spent a wonderful three nights at this site in June and had great fun cycling in the area. More than this, though, was the incredible kindness shown by Danielle post visit when I accidentally ordered some product to be delivered to the site rather than to me at home. Without any hesitation, she repackaged and sent the items on to me, refusing all offers of postage reimbursment. I was and am, immensely grateful to Danielle for such amazibg support.

Nice New England Bay

We stayed here for a few nights on our tour around the West Coast and had lovely weather. As the weather was nice the site was quite busy but half the toilets had been locked in toilet block b ( I imagine so they don't have to clean them) I had to ask the warden to open up more! Great access to a sandy beach and as others say quite remote and large spread out site. We took the camper to the Mull of Galloway and was OK , it is a single track road with passing points. Games room on site but was kept locked! Walked to Port Logan across the Mull, didn't take long and there is a footpath that goes across to the road through the back of the picnic area (where there are a lot of wild campers pitched). Saw the Port Logan fish ponds which were great. Can also walk to the Logan Botanic gardens (on a loop) which are well worth a visit.

Remoteness Personified

Large site, with mainly grass pitches, spread out in a linear fashion along the beach. Make no mistake there are no shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants....anything within walking distance. It is possible to walk to Drummore (7km) , but this would involve the pebbly beach and main road.

However, this is a great spot, with sea views, sunrises and direct access onto the pebble beach. Can imagine it gets windswept, but it was calm for the 4 nights I stayed. The grass pitches are pegged out, but there are no other boundaries, and it does seem a bit random in places. I can't imagine this site gets fully booked, so there should be plenty of choice.

In terms of things to do - Mull of Galloway (Scotland's most southerly point) has a lighthouse, exhibition and cafe (none of which are open on a Friday). I cycled there on quiet undulating roads in about an hour.

Logan Botanic Gardens, didn't go there but looked good and potentially walkable via the pebble beach and main road.

Portpatrick, a small seaside village, which has pubs, cafes, seaside shops, a harbour etc. I cycled there; about the same distance as the Mull of Galloway, on quieter more undulating roads.

My personal favourite was Dumbreddan Bay, which was over the other side and as secluded as you are likely to get, save for the local cows. No parking, or direct road access, but for the adventurous its a 5km walk from site via the pebble beach, farm road and track and a bit of interpretive navigation over a couple of fields, but you are very likely to have this sandy expanse of beach to yourself. IMO well worth the effort!

Need some form of transport

Lovely big site but a bit of a walk to the facilities - if that is an issue for you be sure to ask for a pitch near them. A long walk to reception from our pitch ! Good clean facilities and very friendly staff. We cycled to Mull of Galloway( definitely worth a visit) Narrow road at the end but motorhomes were using it. We also visited Port Patrick in the motorhome ( plenty of parking) . We would have liked to visit the Botanic gardens but no dogs allowed . Take your food supplies with you as there are no supermarkets and no where to walk to for something to eat - you are on the main A road so not safe to walk along. Great sunrises and saw the stoat!

Wide open!

Just visited in August, and were amazed at how open and spacious the site was , giving a sense of freedom you don't often get on European sites. Great access to the beach, easy walk/cycle to Port William. Mull Of Galloway not too far away, but a few hills if cycling. We liked the site.

Review for camping

Great to have a caravan club site that accommodates those who prefer to camp rather than caravan. A great location, great beach, clean and shallow waters. Site was clean throughout. Toilet etc, facilities were spotless. Take care - the hot water taps were scalding! The children’s play park is substandard, containin next to no play items. Very boring for kids aged 3+. There are no swings, something which one would expect to see in a play park. The Games Room needs serious upgrading; there isn’t much to do. If you don’t enjoy table tennis or a game of ’giant’ Connect-4 then don’t expect much more. There’s no tv. Plenty jigsaws, but no table to put them on! One double sofa, no other seats/chairs. No heating. The tent pitches - 5 available - are at the rear of the site and are well sheltered from prevailing winds. Easily reached within the toilet facilities. WARNING: Take major heavy duty pegs, and take lots(!) AND a hammer - the ground is full of rocks/pebbles, with a very thin layer of soil/grass on top. I bent EVERY tent peg that I had, trying to hammer into the ground. You need to insert the peg into the ground at a 2 degree angle to prevent hitting the rocks…..yes, it’s that bad!!! The shop sells ‘rock’ pegs at £0.80p each, so the owners are obviously well aware of the issues that campers are experiencing. The site does not mention the poor ground conditions on their website….which in my opinion, they should. Also, the pitches are not level, all are on a slight slope which isn’t great for sleeping or cooking.

Overall….. Pros - good campsite, quiet, clean, friendly staff, beach lovely. Cons - poor ground conditions for tents, games room and playground sub-standard, both requiring serious upgrading.

A lovely site in a beautiful location

A lovely site in a peaceful location. The site is well maintained and the facilities blocks are spotlessly clean. We walked from the site to Logan Botanic Gardens which are well worth a visit. Highly recommended site.

A Special Place - Planned to stay for 2 nights, but stayed for 7!

This site is a haven for couples and families who enjoy the simplicity of life on the foreshore. The views are stunning. Access to the beach could not be easier, and our two dogs were super-happy! The weather was kind to us while we were there, with glorious sunshine most days. It was possibly the best site we have ever booked.

Peace and Quiet

Great site for dolphins and seabird/ground bird watching. Very remote but so peaceful. That said it’s difficult to walk any distance along beach to Drumore (pub here) as very stoney/ rocky beach especially at high tide. Road walkable but not much verge and it’s the A716! Beautiful views and we saw dolphins and lots oystercatchers. Def worth a visit especially if have a car which we don’t. Exciting to be so remote though and site overlooks bay. Top shower block dated compared to other sites and bit cold as window ls always open but super clean. Lovely staff.

Dog Heaven

If you want peace and quiet and to explore an often overlooked part of Scotland, look no further. The dog loved being able to chase the sea birds along the sea edge on the enormous beach which is just through the dunes from the site. A drive to the lighthouse at the bottom of the Mull of Galloway is worthwhile and we were made very welcome at the Ship Inn at Drummore. Walked to Port Logan and a Logan House Garden (which we had to ourselves) both from the site.
