Rules-bound

The site is very rules-bound, which gives it all the atmosphere of a concentration camp. Notices discourage site users from using the facilities. The welcome was also a bit tepid. There are no taxi services available so you will be stuck here unless you fancy at least a twenty minute hike (some uphill along dangerous roadside). Probably a good site if you’re neurotic and just want to sit about in your van.

What a gem of a site - fabulous holiday

As previously advised - don't follow sat nav - the best approach is advised in your handbook. Wardens - very friendly and happy bunch. Site split into two - we were in the lower half and didn't venture over to the other toilet and shower block but our facilities were clean at all times, great water flow and hot. Great information point and reception. Fish and chip van comes and a Caribbean food chap another night (we didn't eat from either but looked good). We tend to go everywhere on our bikes once we are on site and managed everywhere we wanted to go but it is very hilly. Most of the roads are small but quite well used and local drivers a tad crazy in the narrow lanes! Greenway (holiday home of Agatha Christie) and Coleton Fishacre (Art Deco) both NT were both fabulous and have bike parks and lockers. We cycled to the upper ferry and took it over to Dartmouth (the Sloping Deck, Duke Street is a really quirky tea room and super welcoming) as well as to Brixham (cycled around it and didn't stop. We didn't like Paignton I'm afraid - very tacky and a bit run down, but if you like amusement arcades and seaside stuff it will suit you just fine. We did have coffee on route to Torre Abbey in the Recliffe hotel (far end of the sea front) which has it's own private beach side patio and was very accommodating. There is a cycle route from Paignton to Torquay as the roads are very busy. Torre Abbey was the only place we visited there but it was a very worthwhile visit - very interesting art collection and beautiful gardens. Totnes is sweet and very motorhome friendly if you find Steamer Quay - again easy reach for cycling or walking. You can of course do the steam railway, boat and bus round robin - we have done that before many years ago and lots of other places that were not on our list this visit - like Buckfastleigh and Dartmoor. Stoke Gabriel is also very sweet. There are lots of walks and I would think walking cross country to Greenway wouldn't be too far. There is a ferry you can catch to take you over to the other side or down to Dartmouth but you need to check the times. The site is well established, lots of lovely hedges and pitches are well spread out. There was mobile signal no problem. We only stayed for four nights as we had to get back but if I had the choice I would have stayed longer and will return one day. Massive thumbs up to these hard working wardens who look after the site so well. Thank you.

Loved this site

A new site for us and we loved it. Lovely views of rolling Devon countryside and the part of the site we were in felt like a park. It was lovely and quiet mainly, with just one camper who wanted to share their music, but it didnt last long. We met some great fellow campers and the wardens were fantastic and looked after us, particularly when we needed extra hose for our serviced pitch. We walked into the village a couple of times and the village shop was full of delicious fresh fruit, veg and amazing cheese and wine. Loads to do in the area. We will be back.

Fantastic site!

Our second stay on this site, Wardens make this site going above and beyond to keep it spotless and a friendly environment for all. Facilities are always so clean, bins emptied frequently, necessities in the reception like bread and milk ect. Absolutely lovely site, highly recommended.. Thank you to the amazing wardens .

All round ...fantastic!

A lovely setting and a conveniently sited corner of rural Devon. A great site for families with children. A safe surface playground is available. Wardens on site friendly and helpful, working hard to maintain a high degree of cleanliness. Plenty of towns, villages to visit to suit all tastes. Highly recommended.

Lovely Stay at Ramslade.

This is our third time we have stayed on this site and we love it. The wardens and deputy wardens are first class and are always helpful. Toilets and showers very clean and well maintained as is the site itself. Nice little shop on site that stocks the basics and the site is visited throughout the week by various vans selling fish and chips (6/10) West Indian food (10 / 10 ! ) and pizza (8/10) (Only our personal scores !) Lovely base to explore Torbay and all it has to offer. Beware of the approach to the site as it consists of a narrow road. FOLLOW THE APPROACH INSTRUCTIONS IN YOUR HANDBOOK DO NOT FOLLO YOUR SATNAV EVEN IF IT USES YOUR CARAVAN DIMENSIONS !!! All in all a lovely site which we will definitely be visiting again.

The good, The bad, and the Ugly.

Stayed here in July as part of a two location break, ( see our Bridport Bingham grange review ) this was the second year running we stayed here, last year we arrived a day early….. on a bank holiday, mid pandemic staycation….on a packed site, and Ray ( the warden ) went above and beyond to find us a pitch overnight !! What a star ⭐️ The Good :- The sites well laid out, spacious pitches, clean modern facilities and well kept as well as ideally located for exploring the local coast and countryside. There’s a large dog walking area, and playground with field for the kids to explore and run around in. A good selection of take aways visit the site which makes meal times easy and interesting. The Bad:- Hardstanding pitches are ridiculously hard to get awning pegs into, even the lager diameter ones ended up bending under heavy hammering. WiFi, we couldn’t even connect to sign up to the WiFi let alone use it, another member of our party located in another part of the site was able to join, but reported it a waste of time. If it doesn’t work, please don’t offer it !! This is the first time we’ve had dog issues on a club site. Despite the sign ‘ keep dogs on a lead’ both our neighbours let their dogs urinate and do their mess around ours and neighbouring plots, we had to pick up their dogs mess so the kids could play !!! We must stress this was the minority of dog owners on the site, the majority kept their canine's under control. Last year the site was quiet and everyone was respectful and kept the noise down after 9pm, this year we had kids running around shouting at 10.30pm, and our kids where not impressed. The Ugly:- We were asked to check in after 1pm, our issue was Bridport Bingham grange requests a check out before 11am and it’s less than two hours to the Ramslade site. No problem we thought, we would pull up in a lay-by when we got to Paignton. How wrong we were, despite driving all the way to Totnes and back, we could find a single spot to park up so at decided to go to the site and wait for half an hour. This is where we were treated like naughty school children, accused of not staying at a previous club site, and the lady in question even called our previous site to check our 11am departure story despite us showing her the email confirmation. When your spending your hard earned cash for a holiday, you don’t expect the companies representatives to be so unwelcoming…… the family arriving after us at ten to one also received a similar welcome, you have been warned !!!!

Beautiful

This is an absolutely beautiful site in a lovely area of Devon. We were spoiled for choice with the pitches - although our preferred grass pitch was just a bit too sloped, we were actually happier with a roomy hardstanding which overlooked the meadow and was separated from some of the other pitches with a substantial hedge, so it felt very private. In the late evening, we were struck by how peaceful and quiet the site was. We were treated to some spectacular sunsets and an amazing blanket of stars one particularly clear night. There are bats to watch in evening and buzzards and sparrowhawks to admire - one was even cheeky enough to check out the pizza van while we were waiting to order. Sid's Pizzas on Thursday were delicious, as were the fish and chips on Tuesday (and Saturdays). We weren't back in time to try Friday's Caribbean food, but it smelled amazing. The wardens were very helpful, friendly and hardworking and the site showers/toilet block were the best we’ve seen. There is a very good Sainsbury’s within 2 miles drive of the site, plus an Aldi, Lidl and Asda. There was a table tennis table in a real sun spot and a huge playing field plus playground at the far end of the site. This is probably one of the best sites we have stayed at and will definitely be back.
