Stunning and peaceful

We really enjoyed our visit here. Wardens were particularly friendly and helpful. The walking from site is really great and the lakes and nature trail were a treat if you didn’t want to wander far. There is a hidden gem of a cafe in Ingram a reasonable walk from the site. If you aren’t a walker you would probably need a car to venture out. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and proximity to nature.

Wardens to the rescue

Have to say a huge THANK YOU to the wardens for sorting out our embarrassing day early arrival. We got our wires crossed over change over days & turned up a day too soon 🤷‍♀️ They were so very understanding & helpful. The site is really nice, clean, tidy, flat & well spaced out. Pitches are good size & level. Great location, for lots of walking, petrol station with convenience store close by. Thanks again wardens

Thank you!

Thank you for the weeks break that we had recently. As it was our first outing for over a year since we have been away in the caravan, there were couple of snags which the temporary wardens helped overcome. There were a few vans queuing outside due to the 13:00 opening, this could be a problem for the folk who live up the road from the site.

Great site!

Returned here after a gap of around twenty years and found it a totally different site to the one we remember. It is now one of the best sites we have visited and with excellent facilities. I find it quite sad that people find time to write negative comments about the wardens. going about their duties to make our holiday better. In particular those that criticise the arrival situation. We arrived just before the arrival time to find a large queue but it was so well organised we had selected our pitch within minutes. What do people expect when 39 units are due on site as was the case last Sunday? We will return!!

One of The Best I Have Visited

I had a 4 night stop-over here to explore parts of the Northumberland coast. I loved it. The site felt calm, even though the Bank Holiday was approaching. Great size pitches, reasonable prices, and the facilities block was clean and I did actually quite like the air freshener thing that squirted at you when you entered! Yes, the geese were detectable, but seeing swarms ( is it a gaggle?) of them flying over the site in the evening was fascinating. For a closer view you just walk out of the site and almost straight into the Nature Reserve next door. The dog walk around the back of the site was fabulous too. I don't have a dog but did the walk several times down to the river and around the circuit. I could have stayed longer but had to get to Scotland. I would come back again. As for the queues at 1pm, that others have mentioned, well that is just part of this club and the system that they use. I must have just been lucky. No queue for me.

A delightful site

We have just returned to Wiltshire following a 10 day stay at this site. We received a warm welcome and were surprised to be able to drive round and pick our pitch which was very good. Overall the site is kept clean and tidy by the wardens who work hard to ensure all is well. No need for an alarm clock on this site as the local population of Greylag Geese from the neighbouring lake make sure you get a wake up call in the morning - unless it is raining and they seem to stay put. This site is well located for touring around Northumberland without the caravan and there are some lovely places to visit both near and far. There is a great independent pet shop in Alnwick should you need it. Very helpful and friendly staff (as we found everywhere). The only disappointments were; people not clearing up after their dogs, despite the provision of dog poo bins and the wardens putting adequate signage up asking owners to pick up after their dogs. We have two and managed so there are no excuses. Secondly peace and quiet was disturbed two or three occasions with one caravan watching films in their awning and another one whose inhabitants insisted on listening to their radio loudly with the door open. We also met some lovely people, some of whom had not travelled very far to be on the site. We are already planning to return next year to visit see more of what we missed :)

Perfect site for caravanners or short stay for motorhomers

I arrived at River Breamish on a Sunday at about 13:15 to find a very long queue waiting to book in. I suppose Sunday is always the day with the greatest turnover. On chatting with a couple, the next day, they told me they were around 3rd in the queue having arrived at about 12:50. Ten minutes early is forgivable, but avoidable. I wondered when the two vans in front arrived! I thought of the many threads on the discussions in Club Together about early arrivals. The culture of some is that this is perfectly normal and acceptable. It is hard to judge isn’t it, the couple opined. I thought, but did not say, that with modern navigation aids it should not be difficult at all. Anyway, they told me that the wardens, quite rightly, did not let anyone on until 1 o-clock notwithstanding that this led to a bottle neck on the narrow lane that leads to the site. Thankfully no lorry or tractor came along whilst I was in the queue. Even cars struggled to get by. This must be an issue at times. I get stressed in these situations; I shouldn’t and it should not be a source of criticism because it is hardly avoidable; but I will avoid it if I can and I would make sure not to come here on a Sunday again. I thought the site was very attractive being open and bright and generally pretty with pleasant rolling hills surrounding it. I had a service pitch which were obviously fairly new and very excellent indeed; they were nicely spaced and with modern style drains and bollards. On wandering the site, it was noticeable that some hard standings were tired and in need of a bit of TLC. I liked the fact there was a bike washing area. I have never seen this before, though perhaps I just never noticed. It is a remote site, so it was no surprise that the large majority of customers were caravanners. Like many motorhomers, I do not move once pitched so three nights here was enough. One day I caught the bus, about half a mile away on the main A697, to Alnwick. The other day I explored locally on my bike. The bus can be taken the other way to Wooller. The small supermarket at the service station on the main road is useful. There’s an interesting, antiques centre here too. It was wonderfully peaceful at River Breamish – almost too much so for a city dweller like myself – but, of course that is not meant as a criticism. It is what one gets used to. On the whole, I was glad I gave this site a visit albeit that, for the way I work, it could only ever be a stopover or a short stay location. The wardens were delightful and very helpful.

One of the best

What a fantastic site one of the best we’ve stayed on . We had a fully serviced pitch which was spacious. Absolutely brilliant dog walk and plenty of walks from the site. Great location for visiting the Alnwick and the coast . Facilities were spotless and the wardens really good when booking in. Will definitely return
