One of the best

What a fantastic site one of the best we’ve stayed on . We had a fully serviced pitch which was spacious. Absolutely brilliant dog walk and plenty of walks from the site. Great location for visiting the Alnwick and the coast . Facilities were spotless and the wardens really good when booking in. Will definitely return

Speeding

Beautiful site. Nice wardens, helpful and friendly and the site was so peaceful. Nice walks from site, including River Breamish and a nature reserve next to the site (there are snakes). Toilet block was spotless. In a great location – to the East – Alnwick (20 mins), Craster, Seahouses, Bamburgh (40 mins). To the West - Northumberland National Park, Kielder Park (designated Dark Sky park), lovely drive through Kielder (£3 toll at one end). NTrust house Cragside is fantastic along with the village of Rothbury. Why did we give it 3 stars? Speeding which is not addressed. We have stayed at many CClub sites in our 22 years of caravanning, and I have never left a review but felt I needed to. You always get someone on site that doesn’t adhere to the 5-mph rule, River Breamish site is the worst we’ve been to, if our children were still young I would not feel comfortable letting them play out. Some cars/motorhomes where in 3rd gear, they would drive past the wardens who didn’t bat an eyelid.

A Pleasant surprise

Found this site through late availability as we live in nearby Newcastle and heading into Scotland so decided to start our holiday sooner. The wardens were very helpful and friendly and the site was so peaceful. We walked to the local petrol station and Londis store which stocked all sorts.. There are numerous walks from the site and the toilet block was spotless. Would certainly visit again

Transport Needed

This site is very pleasant but it's situated 10 miles or more from the places we visit the north east to see, so if, like us, you are Motorhomers who don't want to pack away every day to go sightseeing you'll need alternative transport, otherwise it'll be a walk to the end of the lane, followed by some longish bus rides. Apart from that, the site is very nice. Facilities are clean and there are alternative unisex toilets when the main ones are being cleaned. The staff seemed nice, although we only spoke to them on check-in.. I've marked the facilities down by a star because we got back from a very wet walk to find our awning 2 inches deep in water because the pitch was dished.

Attractive site but not a great welcome

The site itself is very attractive, but the reception we got from the warden was less than friendly. She mistakenly thought I was pushing in rather than waiting my turn. I think the sign about where to park may have been obscured by the vehicle in front, and there was no-one else waiting at reception, so I ventured in. I subsequently realised that the person before me had proceeded on foot to find a pitch. Anyway, I did apologise but this was not accepted. I presented a voucher at the earliest opportunity. This resulted in a 'tut' from the warden. She proceeded to tell me the rules. No 'hope you enjoy your stay.' Currently there is no information at the site about an excellent restaurant - The Bosk - which is a short walk away. Dog owners should be aware that the long walk recommended from the site contains a stile - this is not mentioned in the directions. The location is gorgeous, and the shower block is spotless.

We will be back

We recently took advantage of the late availability online booking system when our plans in Scotland changed suddenly. River Beamish had availability and so we booked a one night stopover there on the way home to Lincolnshire. The welcome we received on arrival was lovely and the site is beautifully peaceful and tucked away. The new shower block is spotless and modern and the whole site is immaculate. We will definitely return with our bicycles to investigate this fascinating area.

Lovely peaceful location in the Northumberland countryside.

Site is in a lovely peaceful location within Northumberland. Forty-Five minutes from the coast and twenty minutes from Alnwick and Cragside, Rothbury. Chillingham Castle is a lovely place to visit with a good chance of meeting Lord Wakefield the owner. Site has good facilities and staff were friendly and helpful. A good Londis shop close by at the garage in Powburn but no local pub.

Excellent location

Great site, great location for visiting many places in Northumberland. Great land of castles and sandy beaches. The only issue was supermarkets are plentiful in Alnwick, but that is quite a journey although we didn’t find it an issue if we planned our meals ahead. Close by there is huge potential for walks and cycle rides. Will be returning, probably in May or June to see the puffins on the Farne Islands. (Most had gone when we visited at the start of August). Cragside is amazing!

Clean site but…

The facilities are faultless: clean toilets and showers and well maintained pitches. However I didn’t feel particularly welcome when I arrived as the warden was quite short when I enquired if there were two pitches next door to each other (travelling with my dustier and her family). I was playing football with my nephew and a fellow camper warned me that if the wardens caught us we’d be told off. The wardens didn’t appear to enjoy being there which made me feel like I couldn’t relax - not what you want on holiday! There is also an amazing restaurant nearby which wasn’t in any of the literature or in the information hut, which is a real shame because it is excellent (it’s called The Bosk and is in Branton which is a 15 minute walk away.)
