Shawsmead

Brill place to stay with excellent wardens and too many places to visit in the seven days we were there. Newquay is a lovely place although a little parking restricted but plenty to see and places to eat and drink. Wonderful coastline and the people we met were holidaymaker friendly.

Fab stay but could have been a disaster!!!!!

Quiet and peaceful site with friendly, helpful wardens. Clean facilities and well maintained site. Really enjoyed our stay except for nearly being run down as I was leaving the shower block by some arrogant idiot driving a white volvo XC60 too fast and going the wrong way on the one way system. Thankfully no children around at the time.

Weekend Stopover.

This is a lovely, peaceful site, within a rural area, yet just a few miles from the sea. We used this as a stopover on our way down to St David’s. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We didn’t choose our spot, as it was full, but we were very happy with it. The facilities are excellent and kept very clean. We didn’t explore the beaches around here as we had travelled a good distance to get here, and as we are in a Motorhome; well I have to say, some of the roads are very narrow in places, we had to move off the road a few times to allow tractors with there gear etc! to pass safely. The only comment I can make is that there isn’t anywhere on the site for exercising your dog. You can walk them around, which is ok and you can find some nice walks off site, but an exercise area would be good. There isn’t a small play area for the little people, although we didn’t have any with us. Just an observation. We would come back, as we liked the site very much and probably would stay longer and maybe hire a car for a few days. Overall a great little gem of a site, with friendly staff.

Special little site

Stayed here for the first time in June and now it's one of our favourites. Lovely peaceful location but only 5 minutes in the car to the local village.flat nicely tiered site with a countryside views. Facilities are in a alpine style log cabin but of a good standard. Good TV and WiFi signals. Friendly wardens who kept the site spotless. New Quay and Aberaeron are both worth a visit.

Lovely welcome

We Stayed here for 1 night last weekend on our way up to North wales, what a lovely site very nice reception off the Wardens, we were made to feel very welcome straight away , we found our pitched , and that was it , we RELAXED , only sound we could hear was the tweeting of the birds, every now and then a red kite would fly pass. The facilities were so clean ,the toilets clean and lovely and warm. The other guests were also so friendly and welcoming , the site its self is a little bit out of the way of Aberaeron, and the cycle network is about 3 miles down a very steep road. I wouldn't have felt safe with my 13 year old cycling on the winding roads. We will be back , as i want to hear - birds tweeting ,thank you Shawsmead for a glorious stay.

Peaceful stsy

Fabulous greeting and very helpful wardens. Lovely quiet and well maintained site. It’s in a great location, close to Newquay and many spectacular miles of coastline with stunning beaches. Warden was fabulous as battery died whilst on site, he located us a new one and got us an excellent price! Would recommend site without hesitation.

Great place for peace and quiet

We spent two weeks last year at this site and returned again for 1 week at the end of March 2019. One of the main reasons for returning was the warm and friendly welcome from the wardens and the peace and quiet from this small and friendly site. The onsite facilities are good and are kept very clean and tidy. Campsite is easy to get to and most of the hardstanding pitches are very level. There are hardstandings reserved for disabled guests which are close to the toilet and washing facilities block. Wifi seemed to work really well and we were also able to get 4g on our mobile phones (both vodafone and o2) We do not have children, but I would say that visitors with young children would need to find ways to keep the children occupied if staying on site during the day as the site is too small to accomodate a childrens' play area. We love this site and will return for many years to come

Seventh stop of the Wales road trip

Different holiday for us this year after over 20 years of caravanning we have now bought a camper (trigano tribute) so thought we would do a memory lane trip also taking in some new places. We hadnt been along the west coast of wales so this was a new place! What a lovely site not very big but still with toilet block. The wardens were absolutely brilliant been there a number of years and the site is a credit to them. Aberdaeron is a beautiful seaside town a must to visit. We went up to Aberystwyth to the red kite feeding really enjoyed it! Our only regret is we missed this when we caravanned and picked a site for the two weeks would have loved to stay a lot longer!!

Peaceful and quiet ????

Chose this site for a week in September as it was described as peaceful. When we arrived, all the grass pitches were closed and there was little choice of pitches to be made. If you are unfortunate enough to have to use one of the lower pitches (nos 1-14), be aware that immediately behind the hedge at the end on the pitch is a country road that is used as a rat run by people in the local villages to get to the A487. The noise of cars, vans, buses, LGVs, tractors during the day and boy racers at 2.00 am was very intrusive and spoilt the stay. We knew that there was no dog walk on site and assumed that there wouldn't be a problem walking our elderly dog along the 'quiet' lanes but it was hair-raising at times (we ended up taking him the car to somewhere to walk him). The site itself was well kept and the facilities up to the usual standard but we left a day early because of the noise . (The later option of moving to another pitch away from the road was not practical - unpitching and setting up again in the rain and wind!). Also the lighting on the roadway especially at the far end of the site could be improved - going to the wash block was perilous at night, even with a torch! Otherwise, the area was lovely and worth a visit, especially sitting on the promenade at Aberystwyth in the sunshine, eating ice cream.

Remote Friendly Site

A small friendly site with good facilities. There are a couple of walks locally but nowhere to walk the dog on site. You have to cross a busy country road. As usual, the Wardens were excellent and standards very high.
