No views but very close to sea front and prom

Not a great first impression, being adjacent to derelict Derbyshire Miners’ Welfare sanatorium and the site being full and the feeling of being cramped, and not at all spacious. The facilities are slightly dated, but appeared clean (although we were self-sufficient, and did not use). At night we were aware of far-away road traffic ‘hum’, but it wasn’t too bad. However, the fact the site is so very close to the sea front, and the flat prom, is its saving grace. If you’re content with no view, and being close to your neighbour, but to be just a very short stroll to the beach, this site is perfect. We will return for its location alone. Sadly, the stroll along the prom is ruined by anti-social doggy owners who do not pick up their beloved pet’s faeces. Disgusting! Also folk who could not care less about the environment, and just drop their empty beer/cider cans and plastic bottles and other litter. This is obviously not a reflection of the site. Also it’s not the site’s fault that some dogs are noisy or yappy and spoil the peace of the site.

Very pleasantly surprised

Stayed for 3 nights in Sept in our motorhome, staff very helpful and efficient, pitch excellent and Covid restrictions explained fully and in evidence across the site. Location of site excellent. Will definitely be back.

excavations

I was informed that one of the entrances would be closed. What i wasn't told that it was closed due to major excavation work in process. The noise was terrible from morning until night. when i pitched i had stood in dog muck on our hard stand pitch that was only noticed after i had walked it though my motor home. I was on a fully serviced pitch and the gray waste drain was that disgusting i would not put my drain away piping into it.. no warden-security visible after 4.30pm when reception closes.the toilet facilities were spot on and also the lady in reception was very pleasant. I would only return because of the location and good cleanliness of the toilet and shower block. ( it was a pleasure to go home for some peace and quite)

Second Visit

Came back to this site for 2 days after being here just over three weeks ago and was very disappointed. There are two entrances to this site and as before we drove to the side gate as this is more convenient to gain access. On arriving at the gate at approx 1pm on a Friday we found it locked, we then had to turn around our motorhome and car in a very tight space and head for the main entrance approx half a mile away. As we were turning round a further two motorhomes were also heading for the same gate as there was no signage at the end of the road informing arriving guests that there would only be one entrance available, ( a simple sign would had stopped a lot of maneuvering for arriving guests - especially caravans}. On arriving at reception it was evident that considerable work was being carried out on an old building overlooking the pitches and work vans were blocking the area around the reception. After we arrived and most of Saturday noise of excavations etc rang out around the site. When we booked for these dates we should have been informed that this work would be ongoing and given the chance to cancel as it has not been the relaxing time we anticipated. We also noticed several units which in my (ex warden) experience looked decidedly unsafe and would wonder if reception had asked them for a copy of their habitation record to prove fitness. I was very glad these units were not next to mine for fire safety reasons. We will have to re evaluate as to whether we return here, as there seems to be no warden-security visible after 4.30pm when reception closes. Same really as the toilet block is first class.

So glad we stopped here

Stayed here in January in our motorhome for 2 nights. Great site with great facilities A previous review stated it was not motorhome friendly.....due to the motorhome service area. I had no.problem with this and our van is 7 mtrs long. The shower block is great as is the pitch size. The lady and the manager in reception were helpful happy and professional, they even printed off an email I needed,I just made a donation to the charity boxes. Having been a site warden myself it was a joy to stay here and we have booked again for February.

Nice site but not very motorhome friendly

This was our first visit to a affiliated site since joining the C&MH club so I really can’t compare it to the others but in general I found the site to be clean and well maintained. We had booked a hardstanding pitch and was pleasantly surprised at the size of it, there was a good tarmac road leading to the pitch with stone chippings so no grass to walk over which is a bonus in wet weather. EHU units were within easy reach but drinking water and grey waste disposal were in one place only in the centre of the toilet block, this is where things get difficult for motorhome owners. To fill up my water tank I had to reverse down the side of the toilet block to access the tap which blocked the road to some of the pitches so anyone arriving would have to wait while I filled up. The grey water drain off grate was also in an awkward spot right on the corner of the same building and it was so small I had to make several attempts to line up so the drain tap was over the grate, it would have been easier to fill up a container and carry it to the drain. The toilet and shower block was heated and kept very clean and there was always plenty of hot water which was also the case with the pot washing facility. There was a laundry room which we did not use and there is a unisex hairdressing salon also in the same block. The location is right next to the beach where there are bars, restaurants and an amusement arcade all a couple of minutes walk from the site entrance, five minutes walk the other way is a fair sized Spar supermarket, a Subway outlet and several takeaways including a really good Fish & Chip shop. On the same corner is the bus stop where buses will take you to Skegness station, Ingoldmells, Chapel St. Leanords, Mablethorpe and Louth with connecting services to places like Boston and Lincoln making this a good base for getting around on public transport. Would I use this site again ? Maybe but I would have to come better prepared for water carrying and waste disposal in a Motorhome. I would recommend this site for touring caravans. WiFi is third party chargeable but there are freee WiFi locations on the seafront and if you have the Virgin Media app there is a secure hotspot at the Garden City and Beachcomber pubs.

short break at Skegness.

We chose this site for a short break of 5 days with our granddaughter before she starts school this year and to use our bikes along the promenade to the nearby resorts and primarily for the beach location. We stayed on a super pitch the last week of August. As others have commented, the touring section is a small part of a much larger residential/holiday complex of which the grounds and facilities are spotless. Each day employees were tending the gardens, sweeping or general maintaining the area to a very high level. Pitches are a little regimented in as much as it resembles a car park for the hard standing area's but they are very big pitches arranged in a way you are not looking into your opposite neighbours van. The site is well signposted, but the arrival section could be a bit of an issue at peak times due to the siting of the reception building. The reception handled our booking well, but they could of been a little more welcoming. The area is inundated with 'do and don't' notices and your pitch is chosen for you. The rules are replicated throughout the site and on your booking confirmation. We've no issue rules, but it would be good if they enforced them. For example - other campers using the grounds to exercise their dogs, when it clearly states they should be taken off site. Some grass pitches ruined due to groundsheets, despite notices saying they should not be used. And allowing commercial vehicles to pitch. All of which we saw during the five days. In our opinion, either enforce the rules for all, or delete them. The positioning next to the beach is ideal if you like it and the sea is shallow for a great distance. A little disappointed with the extent of the promenade as it is impossible to ride into Skegness or Mablethorpe due to the promenade either blocked off or non existent. But its good for a mile or so. Expected it to be rowdy, but it is a very quiet site - not likely to return.

Water is not for drinking!

We have stayed at this site many times and in most ways it is our favourites,. However the water from the tap is disgusting and has a strong taste of TCP. Boiling it does not help. If you going to stay here buy drinking water from the nearby shop.

Wont be back not aimed for families

The site as a whole was clean and tidy but more of a car park than a caravan site, think that was because it had so many don'ts instead of do's. My children were given into trouble for cycling from security, and when I went to see what exactly they had done wrong they were nowhere to be seen!!! Had an incident with some of the children playing around the facilities and when I looked at the info I was given to call the warden, (Security) I ended up at the Static reception for the number. Once I got the number, it just rang out!!! Went into the reception a number of times to complain but every time I went in the receptionist was on the phone and not once did the look up to acknowledge me, fail in customer service!! The swimming pool worked out at £17 for a family of 5 and if I was to go every day it would have worked out at £238 for the 14 days, they did not have a leisure pass as most other places offer and to be honest the pool was just that a pool. But the static members all had passes!!! Not a family site what so ever. On departure of my stay the receptionist didn't ask me or the 2 other families that were staying how or stay was, I had to say to her, are they afraid of feed back? The only benefit this site had was the access to the beach.
