Fantastic Site

This is our 2nd visit to this site and this time we stayed for 3 weeks. The toilets are spotlessly clean and the site is well maintained. They have a good play area and a grass area to play ball games etc. The site is about 10 minutes from Sandown and Shanklin but the whole of the island is easy to travel round as the traffic is not to bad and we stayed in peak season. There's lots of nice beaches as well as places to visit. Our children are 6 and 11 and both love it here. The site was not full which l think is due to the ferry cost, out of season they have lots of good offers but unfortunately not for families in peak season!

Brilliant holiday

We have had 12 nights of wall to wall sunshine here on the Isle of Wight. A wonderful holiday. Cowes week fireworks were spectacular and a must see if you're on the island for cowes week. Osbourne house and the needles well worth s visit too, The site at Southlands is fantastic, immaculately kept grass, conifers and pitches. The showers and laundry and pot wash area were always clean and spotless, fabulous showers nice and warm. Wardens were very friendly and helpful and always smiling. I don't have a bad word to say about the place. It's worth having s good drive round before deciding on a pitch as there are so many, it wasn't that busy either. Had a lovely walk one evening up to the Pointer inn, lovely food but book a table in advance as it's always busy. Travelled over on red funnel ferries booked through the caravan club at a reasonable price of £135 in August. I will most definitely return to the Isle of Wight as there is so much to see and do and the people are so friendly and it's nowhere near as busy as Devon/Cornwall in August and with a huge number of beaches you have plenty to choose from

A very enjoyable 2 weeks

We have just enjoyed 2 weeks on this site, a really good stay, the site wardens were all very friendly and the site was well run and very clean. We have a 3,6,7 year old children and they really enjoyed the site with the children enjoying the play area and field for football. The site is not far from the 'Sunshine loop' which is a good off road cycle route and the pub in the village was very good for eating - book early. It was quite windy throughout our stay, difficult to know if this is normal or not but the high hedge lines on the grass pitches suggest so, it didn't spoil our stay. The island was a real gem for a young family and we will definitely be back. A mop + bucket in the kids bathroom and a table tennis table (indoor or out) would be welcome additions

Fantastic Site

We have just returned home from a 10 night stay at this site with a tourer. The site is very peacefull but only 10 mins drive from Sandown of Shanklin. The site is spotless and clean and the Wardens very friendly and helpfull, we couldn't have asked for anything more. But to our suprise the site was not full, we put this down to the ferry costs, but dont be put off because ore inital quote from Red Funnel was £350 return, we than contacted the Caravan Club who arranged our ferry booking and the cost was only £120 return crossing. We will for sure be returning to this site.

What a gorgeous site

We have just returned home after 15 nights at Southlands and wish we could go back tomorrow. We have stayed on a number of CC sites and all of them have been very good but few, if any, have bettered Southlands. The site is kept in a spotless condition with all hedges and grassed areas well maintained. We stayed on a hardstanding pitch and the size was very generous with more than adequate room for a car, awning and a seating area. It is located on the outskirts of the lovely village of Newchurch and is ideal for visiting Shanklin and Sandown to the south and Newport & Cowes to the north. Due to its rural location the site is very tranquil and there is an excellent children's play area just behind some of the grass pitches. The staff were pleasant and courteous and we wish to register our particular thanks to Martin for mending our rotary clothes line - he did a superb job. We went to the Pointer (Newchurch) for meals on 3 occasions and would definitely recommend it as the food was excellent and the portions were generous. You can walk to the place from the site, a leisurely 10 minute walk is all it takes. We also had a couple of meals in the Fighting Cocks and were not disappointed once. Just one word of caution, if you arrive from East Cowes ignore your SatNav if it tries to take you 1st left after the Fighting Cocks - ensure you take the 2nd left. Unhesitatingly we would recommend Southlands, there is every reason to go and no reason for not going.

15 days on Isle of Wight

Spent 2 weeks on the site with excellent weather - a lovely site, peaceful and extremely well maintained. Pitches very well spaced out ans the grass pitches were dry and very good, being designed that they were not large open areas. My only query is why there were showers & toilets closed - I appreciate that the site was not full, but there were a number of mornings when ladies and gentlemen had to queue for showers when 3 were permanently locked - it was not as though they were short staffed!

A hidden gem!!

We have just returned from 10 nights at this fantastic site. It is immaculately kept by very hard working staff who go about it so cheerfully considering the amount of hedges and grass to cut. The facilities are spotless. We both feel this is the best kept site on the network and will definitely return. Also what a beautiful island to visit - it is like being abroad without leaving the UK. Well done to all the staff you are a credit to the club. Terry & Moyra Bodley

Good site

A very well run and maintained site looked after by 6 very good and pleasant wardens. Site in a good position quite central and good for seeing all parts of the island. Will be back in the future.

lovely site, but................

Lovely site, well situated for visiting the whole island. Some road noise but not too intrusive. However, two of the female wardens were unhelpful on our arrival, wondering if we could return to reception 'before 5 o'clock' with a pitch number, but not offering any help with details of pitches available, other than 'a white marker' and 'there are plenty there' when pointing to the site map. I must stress that staff walking round the site, and those on refuse duty were very pleasant. I would not wish to criticise all staff.

Southlands worth the trip

Recently returned from a week at Southlands which we really enjoyed. Easy to get to from East Cowes with good roads to all parts of the island. This is one of the best sites on the network and we have visited a fair few in 30 years' membership.
