Excellent pitch

We were visiting the IoW for 3 days and had initially booked at a smaller independent site. The weather was not kind and after 1 night we found ourselves on a very soft field; in a motorhome this is not great. A quick call to the CC at Southlands and we made the decision to move. What a wise move! The hardstanding pitch and the whole site was immaculate; indeed we would clearly have had no problem on the very well kept grass pitches. The quality of the toilet block etc was superb and incomparable to where we had left. For the small difference in price there was a huge difference in quality...lesson learnt!

Great site and well positioned to visit the island

We came here for a week starting 10 June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff all helpful and facilities all very well kept - did miss piped music in the showers though as we've been spoilt at other club sites. The pitches are well laid out with plenty of room and nicely tended with lots of hedges and trees to break up the site. This is an ideal base to use for visiting the rest of the Isle of Wight which we did with ease. There are also two dog friendly pubs just 10 minutes walk in either direction of the site, although we didn't eat at 'The Pointer' the beer was good but we did eat at the 'The Fighting Cock' which was very good. Would definitely return to this site and love the island.

Isle of Wight gem

Having stayed at Southlands caravan park for 8 nights, I have to say that the park is extremely well kept, the staff are friendly and helpful and the toilet and shower block are well equipped and spotless.

A Fantastic Site

But,the site itself is absolutely brilliant, everything is immaculate, hard standing pitches big enough to build house on and grass pitches that offered both seclusion and a little shelter if you wanted it.There is a good play area with a nice grassed path walk. The facilities were kept to a high standard.Previous comments have been made about walking the lanes locally and I agree you need to have your wits about you, that said we did have a very nice meal at THE POINTER I think the pub was called. When we did get a bus we made it to Sandown and Shanklin, the walk along the the prom was great. Isn't it always when the sun shines? Next time if,we go again I would consider car hire,we just didn't get around as much as we would have liked. We really liked what we did see though. Recommended.

Comfortable and relaxing

We stayed summer half term and were pleasantly surprised that the site was probably only 20% full. There were ample pitches with no one else around. The pitches grass pitches are levey, grass well cut and most of the site is sheltered by high hedges. Only 1 toilet block for our side which was very clean and quiet with the number of visitors, could be a problem when full. They shut for cleaning from 1030-1230 which is to early I think. We picked a pitch near the dog track ( which we did not know about until pitched) and a road runes behind so a little noise. Staff are very friendly. Although plenty of water points and rubbish bins, toilet waste was a little further to go. Site not in easy walking distance of anywhere, a little remote. Wasn't over impressed with the island, lots of small roads so short distances took time, a little pricey for everything, they put it down to transporting it to the island. Did all we wanted to do in 3 days, don't expect to return, but would definatley use Southlands again if we did. Bokk ferry and campsite together to mske it cheaper.

An excellent well maintained site

This is an excellent site that resembles well kept parkland.  Pitches are generally level and there is plenty of room around them.  All facilities are clean and in good working order.  Only grumble is that the water flow in the showers is a bit miserly. We were very surprised by the number of unoccupied pitches during Spring Bank Holiday week.  In fact there were vast areas of grass pitches unoccupied.  I think that this is due to the cost of a ferry to the Island.  Always ring the club for a Ferry and Site deal as booking direct with a Ferry company is much more expensive. The site location is quiet and peaceful but perhaps a bit isolated although there is a popular pub within walking distance. There is a bus stop outside the site but the bus service is pretty useless and there are a lot of very narrow roads on the Isle of Wight; not ideal for Motorhomes!

Great all round site!

Our first & definitely not our last visit. A truly lovely site with perfectly groomed high hedging for most pitches. A dog walk that has been thoughtfully made. Great washroom facilities & a really good Childrens play area. The site is immaculately kept by the wardens, who must spend more than their working hours to keep it in this fantastic condition. I dealt with Janet, one of the wardens, who was the most helpful & knowledgeable warden I have ever come across. I have absolutely, no bad criticism of this wonderfully managed & kept site. I am so glad that we have been here & look forward to our next visit! Thank you Janet!

Best Site we have visited

We took advantage of the club booking our ferry and site which was an amazing price for a 10 day holiday. We travelled Red Funnel Southampton to Cowes with our 2 year old golden retriever who loved the experience of the ferry and good to have a lovely doggy lounge to sit in if the weather was against you sitting outside.  We arrived a little early at the site but it wasn't a problem to them.  Our pitch No. 72 was amazing but so were most of the other pitches.  Facilities were spotless, lovely hot showers, and the site was a credit to the wardens. It was our first time on I.O.W but will not be our last and we will definitely book Southlands when we return. Thank you all

We will be back!!

Our second visit to Southlands and it will not be our last.  Very friendly and helpful wardens, toilets, showers and wash up to the usual excellent Caravan Club standard.  We took advantage of the Caravan Clubs discounted rate for ferry Whitelink from Lymington to Yarmouth.  As motorhomers and previously visited the site we decided this time to hire a car from Enterprise via the Caravan Club website.  They collected us from the site at the time arranged took us to Newport to complete the admin side of the hire and when we delivered the car back they paid for a taxi to bring us back to the site.  Excellent service and one we would recommend to motorhomers as some of the roads on the Island are very narrow.  Alternatively you can use the excellent island bus service which is about 20 mins walk away outside Amazon World.  A visit to the Garlic Farm which is about 45 mins steady walk from Southlands is a must for garlic lovers.  You can sample all their produce before you buy.  Recommend the Toasted Garlic Mayonnaise!!  Excellent food also available in the restaurant - all garlic inspired of course!!  We did not visit but many people on the site recommended The Pointer Inn in the village - again within walking distance, but they get very busy so booking is recommended.  We will definitely be back to Southlands!!!
