A nice site, but ...
Our first visit to Troutbeck Head and due to the location we were looking forward to a relaxing quiet weekend. The site is in a rural location with no noisy roads or railways and even the nearby adventure centre generates very little noise. The toilets were closed during the weekend we were there due to a sewage problem of some kind which perhaps left the staff with more time on their hands. The site has quite a lot of grass and some hedges and for most of the time we were there we were subjected to lawnmowers and very noisy petrol strimmers and hedge cutters. Sat outside our awning at 15:30 on Sunday afternoon, we had a lawnmower cutting the pitch next door and a hedge being cut behind us. This continued for over an hour. While I appreciate that site maintenance is necessary, surely these activities can be confined to mornings or very early afternoons when people are more likely to be off-site?
Apart from this we liked the site which has magnificent views, easy access to an off-road walk and well laid out pitches. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and they were most apologetic about the lack of toilet facilities, which, given the Covid situation, we didn't really miss.
