Extra surprise 1

3rd visit to Troutbeck Head & we used a serviced pitch this time which was excellent, opposite our pitch ( No. 20 ) most evenings we saw Badgers going about there business which was an unexpected treat. Regards the noise from next door we noticed a faint rumble from the quads & shotguns but I think it is down to which part of the site you are on it didn't spoil our stay there & look forward to our 4th visit.

Troutbeck head site

I don’t normally leave reviews but after our week at Troutbeck i feel i should warn people about the neighbours. The outdoor activity centre/Farm next door is very noisy, everday for a week from 9am to 6/7 pm we had Quad bikes roaring past the back of our pitch. Then after the quads have finished the shotguns start with the clay pigeon shooting. When this is finished the farmer then starts his work tractors machinery etc, on the Thursday night it sounded like they were dragging a skip up & down the road until gone midnight. Its not like us to complain but i did speak to one of the wardens the next morning who said he would ring the farmer and have a word. Its a real shame as the site is in a beautiful spot but avoid the pitches at the bottom of the site which border the farm.

Stopover Site

We stopped over on the journey to Scotland. It’s a really superb site with excellent facilities (COVID protocols being managed much better than other sites we have been to) and very good hardstandings. It’s very much a caravanners site as needing to drive out to walk anywhere. A couple of surprises - the midges were pretty bad (even compared to the Scottish Highland CAMC sites) but there were red squirrels on site, which were good to see. We will definitely be back, even if only as a stopover.

First time caravanning and couldn’t have asked for a better start!

We chose this site due to the close proximity of home in case we needed to go back home (worst case scenario) The site was really pretty, spacious and although we arrived later than our allocated time slot..(missed the signpost and went to aira force instead🙃) the wardens were lovely and told us to find a spot. Well we didn’t know at the time that you check the site level, if it gets full sun etc, I just liked the number 135. Set up took an hour as we had no idea what we were doing and the kind neighbours in front of us helped us with the awning (thank you Richard) The facilities were immaculate and even thou we only stayed for 2 nights we had such a lovely time and have fallen In love with caravanning. The staff and the other caravaners were so helpful polite and felt like such a happy community that I’m glad I chose this site. I know a few reviewers said it was quite isolated, but it is in such a lovely spot where we can really get away from it all. I will definitely come again next year for a longer period and hopefully weather will be perfect again.

Lovely Site

Stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The wardens were great. A special thanks to Stuart and Rebecca for providing us with some detailed knowledge of the area. It’s really is a great site to get out and explore.

2 night stay

Such a shame that members do not follow the club rules putting us off staying again. Also if you need the dedicated disabled facility remember that it is a long way from the fully serviced pitches

Outta lockdown and back on the fells

We've stayed a few times here, great site and location for walking ( a short drive to Dockray to walk The Dodds) Covid secure for reception check in, track & trace forms etc, all the usual stuff you have come to expect due to the Pandemic and the good standards also expected from the Caravan club. Good sized fully serviced pitch, clean service areas and friendly staff, will certainly visit again, but possible after all the restrictions are lifted as the rubber band process to use the toilets and showers is a pain (although better than other sites) You queue but there is no one in as they haven't taken their band off the peg or you go in and its full. Roll on all facilities being back to normal :)

Glad to be back.

We have stayed here many times and always enjoyed the area. We have always been lucky enough to use a serviced pitch and, due to the chilly and unsettled week we had, it was great! Didn’t use the facilities block so can’t comment on the quality or Covid-secureness.

First time at Troutbeck

Easy site to access, lovely welcome by wardens. Despite weather we have had 10 nights of great relaxation. The site is kept in first class order and you are spoilt for choice when selecting a suitable pitch. Most are large and well maintained and we have even seen the wardens weeding the chippings which is something we have never seen before. Site is peaceful and close to Keswick and Penrith. Views lovely from site where we have seen the fells bathed in sunshine, covered in snow or disappeared in cloud or mist. Such a change after 14 months of isolation at home. Already booked for 2022.
