Different!

Looks pleasant enough when you arrive at the site, but there are notices everywhere.  The lady warden seemed friendly but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to cross her!  If you want to leave the site you need to pay a £10 deposit for a radar key.  The pitches are varied in size and all appear to be flat.  There are 2 toilet blocks, the main one has three showers and 3 loos, a hairdryer that eats 20p coins.  Also be careful as the loo roll holder stores only 1 loo roll, which can leave you with a problem.  The toilets in the morning were horrendous - not the fault of the wardens. The toilet block in the woods had two showers with heated towel rails, toilet and wash basin, wet room style & automatic lights.  Be aware there is a window and a lower second window in the door.  For privacy put stool in front of the door, blade positioned on the stool then hang jacket on handle of blade - you can't be seen. The views from the pitches around the fishing lake are great but do cost you an extra £2 a night. Fishing in the lake is chargeable too.  A visit to Belton House (NT) is a must, it took us 2 days to see the whole house and grounds. I had my 55p ready to buy a plaque but was told the Caravan Club charged them too much for these so they didn't have any!!! Not sure we would visit again but it was worth going to be so close to Belton House.

Really beautiful

Very beautiful site, quiet and it was lovely to be able to have a spot overlooking the lake.

Visit: 26/7-2/8/2016

Extremely pleasant and very friendly wardens and staff on site in a very pretty, secluded location. I have a large American RV and, once you've negotiated the narrow lane to get onsite, the site itself is VERY spacious with well-maintained grounds. Local baker visits a couple of times a week but he seems to come and go when he wishes rather than the advertised 12.00-2.00pm times. Certainly worth catching though. The toilets and showers are cleaned but the wet-room style of showers makes everything wet including toilet rolls. Better design needed there but it's a small point. Being remote and secluded, getting to any local towns/villages means that a car is essential but overall, a great location that I will visit again.

Wagtail Weekend

Just had the most marvellous weekend at Wagtail Country Park. The site is beautifully landscaped & set out with each pitch having plenty of space. The facilities are excellent, especially the new individual wetroom style shower block...other Club Sites could take a leaf out of their book! It is just so peaceful & relaxing on site. Thank you, we will return!

A lovely landscaped site

On the one hand the site is very well kept. It has it's own small lake which can be fished and everything is immaculate.   The thing is though, it's not how I'd imagined a 'country park'. When we asked how we get through to the country park we were told the caravan site is it.  To be fair we were told about some walks to and around a nearby village, and everyone was really friendly.   So, from a landscaping point of view, possibly the nicest, best kept site we've visited and perfect if you like to fish or want to do nothing much at all. Here you can really relax for a few days.   A slight minus point was the main shower/toilet block which didn't have the usual privacy cubicles and the three shower cubicles were also basic. They didn't have shower curtains and there are no seats so things get a bit wet. By contrast, on the other side of site there is another block with much more modern facilities but only one for gents and a couple for ladies.  Normally, we like to be able to walk to attractions whether that be beaches, stately homes, villages or 'country parks' and for us that's one box Wagtail didn't tick but it is a great stopping off point on the A1.

Wagtail visit

1st visit to this site.8th-15th May. What a gem. Wardens very helpful. Nice to dogs on leads. The shower blocks are heated and spotless. Great for bird watching. One duck with 10 ducklings. Other wild fowl in abundance. Will be back. Thank you John & lizard

12 years and counting

Never reviewed a site before but thought we must now recommend Wagtails as a superb site yes it is secluded but that doesn't distract as it allows the wildlife more freedom facilities always spotless generous sized pitches the wardens always pleasant and helpful even when my dog christened the wardens awning ( how embarrassing) 12 years twice a year something must be right.

Easter break

Another great stay at Wagtail, Owner & staff very helpful as usual. Toilets/showers spotless, a bit breezy but didn't spoil our stay. A trip to Boundary Mills & Garden centre a must. Lovely lakeside view spotting the wildlife. We stayed Good Friday to Easter Monday would have stayed longer but had to back to work. Thanks for a lovely stay see you again soon, Sandra & Pete Pontefract

Beautiful site if you like getting up early!

Stayed on this site for five days earlier this month. The site is beautiful but expensive for what you get. The toilet block is clean but dated and during our visit had a distinctive 'doggy' smell. Our reception was efficient and helpful in pointing out places to stay during our visit. The view from the caravan window across the lake was very pleasant but costs extra. However the main criticism was people driving around at 4am in the morning, presumably from the lodges going fishing. I mentioned this when we were leaving to be told firmly that such things did not happen on their site. A simple 'sorry' would have sufficed, will not be recommending or returning again.
