1st Holiday in our new Motorhome

The location was wonderful, the first night we walked into a place called Durlinton which was absolutely gorgeous, lovely little pub where we enjoyed a refreshment, the second day we walked into North Berwick it was a lovely walk into town. Plenty to see and do, we enjoyed a lovely fish supper in the lovely garden, we saw some lovely deer on our way back to Yellowcraig. The only downfall was the Wifi which did not work at all and we had to use our own data even after signing up to the yearly carvavan club wifi. Disappointed the shop did not sell fresh produce like fresh rolls and eggs!

Very Expensive, not value for money and Dogs, Dogs and more Dogs!

Firstly the booking system! Trying to genuinely book a pitch in advance is a nightmare. If you are trying to plan ahead and book specific sites it’s almost impossible. Selfish club members will book up pitches weeks in advance then cancel at the last moment so leaving genuine members/bookers no availability. Site fees for Yellowcraig are now extortionate we paid £42/night. Very few pitches to choose from when we arrived at 13:00 and the ones available are very badly worn with large sections of “sand/soil” exposed. The family next to us had two very active dogs which are just allowed to run around and pester other campers and were never checked or tethered. The children of the same family decided to start digging the exposed / eroded sand from the grassed area at the end of the tarmac road section to make sand pies/castles and were never disciplined by the parents. So going back to the subject of dogs - it’s time the club started limiting the number of dogs on site - I suspect that dog numbers during our stay may have approached the same numbers as humans in site. One unit had 4 dogs! During our stay we never witnessed any site staff walking around checking what was going on and “policing” the site. The toilets although clean are badly in need of an upgrade and refit. At 13:00 daily and for the next hour or so it’s like the wacky races with people driving round and round the site frantically looking for a pitch. At one time we witnessed a caravan jam around the toilet block area and counted 6 units stuck as one caravan was unhitching and parking up. The system of booking in and being left to tour around the site to find a pitch is actually quite dangerous! So to sum up this site we were very disappointed and felt ripped off at £42/night for a worn out pitch with no other decent pitches available when we arrived. Not a good experience so we will not be back and will not be renewing our membership.

Our favourite site, but!!!

We are just back from 12 nights and have been coming here since 2007 when our boys were 2 and 6 month old and love this place and the memories it has created, this visit was a poignant one because our boys had decided this would be their last holiday with the 'olds'. Having not been since 2019 we were all looking forward to returning for one last time as a family and the site itself didn't disappoint the wardens were great, the facilities are adequate I believe I'm right that the showers received a refurb in 2018 but they are looking tired again and in need of some TLC. This brings me on to my biggest gripe and like others it involves the cost, £46.60 a night extra for WiFi! The club has to do better here to encourage new members and keep existing ones, those of us with children have no choice when we take our holidays we shouldn't be penalised and have to pay a premium, the nightly rate is massively different at non 'peak' times which coincidentally are during term time! The layout of Yellowcraig and other sites needs to be looked at as they were never designed to accommodate some of the larger motorhomes and caravans we now see! Maybe designated pitching areas are required yes you may lose some pitches but give people better more adequate space? I have always caravanned with my dogs for the last 10 years with 3 they're not perfect but they don't yap and bark and create a nuisance like the 1 in the next pitch, please if your going to bring a dog take responsibility for it or leave it in kennels don't spoil it and make the club impose restrictions which punish good owners.

Lovely site - shame about the price

We have been regular visitors to Yellowcraig for many years. It’s a great site, perfect beach, ideal for children and dogs. Current wardens are doing a great job, the site is looking well kept and colourful. But, at £46.60 per night for two adults and two children we will be looking elsewhere. I honestly feel it’s daylight robbery, what is the point of membership and supposed discounts when other private sites nearby with more facilities are cheaper. I will be seriously considering whether it’s worth renewing my club membership this year. Time for the caravan club to waken up and stop ripping us off. We travelled France and Spain earlier this summer, campsites were top quality, restaurants, swimming pools etc and an average price of £17 per night. Sorry caravan club you are getting far too greedy….

Great site, shame about the price

We liked Yellowcraig as a site. It’s about 5 mins from a lovely beach and the facilities are well maintained. Staff, too, were all friendly and helpful. The pitches were a bit of a lottery, given that some were barely big enough for a small campervan, let alone a caravan, and squeezed into spaces that probably should have been left empty. Our biggest problem with Yellowcraig though was the price. It’s just way too expensive, even given its location. We stayed out of necessity but would definitely look around at other clubs and options before coming back. It’s a shame, really, because it’s the sort of site that families on budgets are crying out for but it will be well beyond most modest wallet’s reach. With such high prices, you would hope that Wi-Fi would be included in the price, but no, that’s an extra. It sort of leaves you feeling they want to squeeze every last penny out of you, albeit with a smile,

pitches

So disappointed with the pitch allocated to us on our visit to Yellowcraig site. At nearly £40 per night i do not feel we had value for money at all. we were told we would need to park sideways onto the pitch which meant we were looking directly across and into our neighbours caravan . anyone needing to empty their toilets were forced to walk right in front of us and across our very limited space. It really felt as if we had been squashed onto a site with our camper van and yet paid the very high price to do so.

Great location but way too expemsive

Had 3 nights in early July. Appreciate it is entering summer season but nearly £40.00 a night for 2 adults is way too much for what is offered. Only one shower block which needs refurbishment even though staff kept it clean. Second block needed. Pitches seem crammed in and I agree many now, including Motorhome and camper vans, put giant awnings up. Lack of free wifi is also a gripe when paying such a high price. Also agree there were dogs everywhere. Can thought be given to some dog free areas? Site not quiet due to dogs and pitch closeness but location of site is excellent with easy access to a beautiful beach and coastal walks in either direction. North Berwick is a lovely place to visit. Chose the site for its location but now knowing it is only £2.50 to park all day by the beach and free parking for visiting Berwick next time I would use a cl and drive to the coast. Met one lady warden who was very helpful and the wardens have planted some lovely floral displays

Beautifully Maintained Site in Great Location

Second visit to Yellowcraig and again very impressed by the high standard maintained by the site staff here. Although it is a busy site you wouldn't know it by the cleanliness and peace you will find here. Only a short walk to the beach and a longer walk to North Berwick (or a short drive). Plenty to see and do around here and we can't wait to return.

Lobster and Chips!

Full site over the weekend when we visited, the facilities were clean and well looked after, pitches reasonably spaced. Great for beach waliking, watching the sea scapes and the stormy weather come and go. Its 3 miles to North Berwick where we made the most of a rewarding visit to the Lobster Shack in the harbour and a pint in the Auld Hoose before returning along the John Muir way.

Peace and tranquility

Just returned from another fabulous visit to this site. Wardens where friendly and took great care of the site. Their where 2 of us and our 2 furry family. Yes there where lots of dogs but I have to say It didn't impact our stay in anyway. All who we met where friendly and quiet (including our own). Great place for lots of walks, being either beach, field or woods. A nice walk to the pub at Dirleton has to be done for food and perhaps a little thirst quencher! And very dog friendly! All in all a super stay. And even better the sun came out to play!
