Ideal place to visit York

We had often thought of visiting York but the high price of hotels put us off. The Rowntree campsite provides a very affordable way to visit York. The site is only a 10 minute walk from the city centre, an ideal location. The site is very well maintained, the toilet facilities are the right size for the number of pitches and it was very quiet and peaceful. If we plan another visit to York or North Yorkshire we will definitely stay here again.

First and Last visit

Just returned back from our first stay at Rowntree. On arrival there was One pitch no.32 available for large outfits (8m caravan)which required 4x4 mover to site between the pegs whilst other easier access large pitches were occupied by 5m camper vans which obviously do not fit the description of large.More diligent placement of outfits on arrival would negate these issues on such a tight site. Site is at the top end of CAMC site pricing but the facilities are requiring updating and the site is just a sea of gravel with very little greenery overlooked by adjacent hotel and houses. The only redeeming factor for the site is its location so close to York City Centre and all its amenities. Will not be rushing back anytime soon.

Great location & site wardens

This was our fifth visit to York Rowntree and once again the site did not disappoint. Yes, the facilities could do with a refurb but they are all fully functional and spotlessly clean. The location is just perfect for York city centre and the bus services to other areas are all within a short walk from the site. There are also plenty of places to eat/drink at Bishopgate which is easily accessed via the gate at the back of the site. Special mention to the site wardens who were all really welcoming and friendly and work really hard to ensure the site is kept well maintained. Will be back again….

York

This site is well worth a visit. The access is quite narrow so you need to follow arrival times and be sensible about the speed to access the site. There are plenty of passing places so use them if need be. The wardens are organised and waiting your arrival. I always pay in advance so this does speed up the process - straight to choose a pitch. There were not many remaining but we had a good pitch and like the option for parking the caravan and car. Wash rooms and other facilities all really clean, showers could be more powerful but I say this for every site! Short 10 minute walk into York with all its attractions and great food choices. We did not go out in the car for the whole of our stay everything you need is short walk away.

À 10 min à pieds du centre de York, c’est nickel. Standing des Caravan Motorhome Club avec tous services pour CC et sanitaires très propres.

Excellent site for visiting York

Stayed here for 14 nights and an excellent site for visiting York and surrounding areas. Staff were friendly and professional. An exit through a side gate and a five minute walk to local shops without having to venture into York was an added bonus. We will definitely return and highly recommended to all our friends.

NO WIFI

A busy site but quiet. walking distance to city centre or local shops and buses. I caught hop on bus to city centre from local shop area. I was disappointed that I had to pay £15.00 for WIFI for the week

Great location over priced needs updating

Great location to York city centre but there are drawbacks , the toilet block needs an update with poor showers there are not enough toilets in the gents for the amount of pitches. This is an expensive site but I feel we are paying the price for the close location to york the toilets lack electric sockets for your own hair dryer there are fixed ones but not very good. Other people I have spoken to in the site all agree the price per night is expensive we will not come back here

Can't wait to return to this site

From the warm and friendly welcome, to the ease of checkout. Such a wonderful location for easy access to York and surrounding cycle routes. The key for the back gates, brings you to some fantastic shops, which we would otherwise have missed. Facilities are extremely clean and the wardens accessible. We had a power problem, which caused a problem to our van. After hours, the warden was there in less than 10 mins and sorted it for us. We'll definitely be returning and can't wait to go back.
