Stayed here for 2 nights (11th-13th August 2016). This was the last site of 8 that we'd stayed at as part of a wonderful 3 week tour which had taken us to Spain, France and then Belgium to allow us to visit the European space centre. We booked the site and 'special pitch' last November. We arrived at 5pm and the reception staff seemed surprised to find we had a reservation (we took the caravan club confirmation). According to the caravan club brochure the pitches should be 100 m square. We were assigned pitch number 375A. The staff seemed a little confused as to where it was. We were then escorted to what can only be described as an overnight stopover pitch by reception. We had to park the motorhome right up against the hedge and we couldn't even wind out the awning properly as the pitch was so small - we could barely get our chairs outside (I estimated that it was less than 50m square). Water and drainage was shared between 6 pitches. I went back to reception to query whether we had been given the correct pitch and was informed that it was as it was reinforced to prevent the motorhome sinking. I asked about the size of the pitch and was told that it was correct. It was only when we walked around the site later that we realised that there were other large motor homes with much more space and on normal pitches. More often than not they had Belgium or Dutch number plates and it appeared that the site management either prioritised people from these countries or discriminated against British people. This unfair treatment really annoyed me and so I emailed the caravan club with photographic evidence. I received a phone call from them to say that they were not happy about the pitch we had been given and they were going to investigate and ring the campsite. Shortly afterwards I received a second phone call from the caravan club defending the site and saying that apparently it was a motorhome pitch and that I should have been told that it was reinforced to prevent the motorhome from sinking. I pointed out to the lady from the caravan club that there were other motor homes on large normal pitches. I think the site management had tried to mislead her. She said the site management had agreed to refund one nights fees and would I agree to that. Upon reflection I think the site management should of offered an apology, a full refund and compensation for ruining our holiday. However perhaps since we booked through the caravan club they should also offer compensation. I wouldn't recommend the site as its in a rather dreary area which has no character. The people in the shop were nice enough. Oh one last thing, on the second day we filled a water container with water from the shared water supply. We noticed it appeared brown and later on the sediment settled to the bottom. We then poured it away and got water from another tap which was okay. Upon reflection I should have reported it to reception but I wasn't convinced they would take any notice. Due to the pitch location by reception it was noisy at night.
We spent 8 nights here over the easter break & i have to say we were impressed. This site is up to the CC standard.I say we as we had 2 teenagers & an 8 year old. The onsite facilities are good but beware all you long stay shower users you only get 5 mins but plenty of them over 2 blocks. There is train noise as the site buts up to the track but nothing during the night. It did rain most days & most of the week & there is an issue with drainage as it was soggy but we went out & about sight seeing anyway. The onsite shop was closed most of the time & the pool was all the time but the park does look after the kids - we had a great time with an easter egg hunt & they even translate as there was so many nationalities. The food in the restaurant was really good (on the 2 times we visited) but we did most of it in the caravan from local shops. Rochfort,Dinant, Euro Space Centre & The Bastonge Museum were all good days out. Overall I would recommend it
Two nights spent here over New Year en route to the ferry at the Hoek.
First impressions are good; friendly and helpful reception and spacious pitches if not a little worn and very muddy. The facilities appeared to be relatively new and were clean, warm and functional.
This site, I imagine, will be very busy in summer as it is geared to providing an activity-filled holiday for the families who come with tents and tourers as well as the those looking for a billet in cabin-type accommodation. There seemed to be a significant number of privately-owned cabins some of which were occupied whilst we were there.
Our second afternoon was somewhat disturbed by the relentless ‘beat’ of music coming from the bar whilst the management set up the place for the New Years’ Eve party. Asking in reception if there was to be a party later that evening, we were curtly informed that it was for their regular guests only. By this, we took it to mean those that were holidaying in the privately owned cabins. Our reason for the enquiry was not to secure an invite to the same but rather to see if we could move further away from the ‘din’ fearing that it would only get worse as the night went on and we did have an early start in order to get away the next morning. We moved well away and the noise of the bar was then inaudible.
We settled to a quieter night but the fireworks (understandable) awoke us: the site’s display was soon over but it then transpired that many of the regular guests had bought quantities to let off on the site, wherever they chose, and with little regard for the outfits of visitors.
It is a site that served its purpose for us: we would not return despite its relative cheapness as a member of the management, not knowing that our knowledge of Dutch was probably far better than she imagined, was not exactly welcoming in her comments to us as we walked by her on returning from a walk!
