Why stay here ...

Ideally situated on the northern banks of a lake close to the centre of Ingolstadt, this site can be used as a stopover en route to Italy and Croatia. It’s a spacious site with open unmarked pitches and direct access to the lovely lakeside. The lake is small enough to walk round and dogs, which are welcome onsite, will like the open spaces in which they can walk and play.

Adjacent to the site there is a traditional Bavarian restaurant with a large beer garden and some lovely speciality beers along with a mini golf park for all the family.

As the setting for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Ingolstadt is an intriguing city. A Frankenstein tour is on offer for the literary-minded, while those interested in history will enjoy a stroll around the old town. North of the city centre is the Audi factory, which visitors can tour, and Munich is an hour’s drive from the site.

Peace and Quiet

Azur Camping Am Auwaldsee
Our tour round Europe included a visit to Munich for one of the group to see the Allianz Arena. This site is about 1 hour from Munich but we chose to use the local train service as this is within walking distance of the site and cheaper than parking in Munich. The site is flat and quite wooded. Watch, some of the trees are at interesting angles at the side of the roads within the site. Adjacent to the site is a lake with access from the site and a pleasant walk. Facilities are being updated (one block done already) but we found all of them to be more than adequate and clean. Check-in was quick and easy. Access out of the area back to the main roads heading west was easy and quick.

Quirky but lovable campsite

Azur Camping Am Auwaldsee
As you approach the campsite you initially drive passed retail developments and businesses but do not be put off. Your perseverance will pay dividends. The pitch allocations are very relaxed and we were shown a large area of grass and given the freedom to pitch whatever way we chose. Pitch surface was all rough grass and uneven but still did not require chocs. A number of established seasonal pitches, some which looked as if they needed tic, dotted throughout site added to its appealing quirkiness. 2 toilet/shower blocks, one which was very modern and newer, were both well maintained. Restaurant/bar at campsite entrance convenient though we never dined there ourselves. Bus stop a short walk from campsite entrance into Ingolstadt, a charming Bavarian town on the Danube. Campsite is wooded andi on edge of lake so plenty of opportunity for walking/cycling. Supermarkets within walking distance yet their proximity didn’t impinge on the campsite. Our initial reservations were very quickly quashed and the site grew on us. We would definitely return.

Night Halt only

Azur Camping Am Auwaldsee
We stayed here for 3 nights simply for a break from travelling. The reception staff were friendly. The small lake very nice . We were allocated a pitch directly opposite the storage area and next to the tent field that was very busy. The toilet facilities were clean but only 2 showers for the amount of people meant regular queuing. The camping area was not lit at night. Many people fell over tree stumps etc in between pitches and was dangerous. Be very very careful and have a torch handy!

More than just a useful stopover site

Azur Camping Am Auwaldsee
This is a fantastic site for exploring the town of Inglostadt and has a very helpful tourist information in the town. The site does suffer from a bit of motorway noise, but is very clean and facilities always spotless. The pitches are a bit random; just park on this area of grass but is a very acceptable way of doing it as there was plenty of space for everyone and we stayed in the height of summer. The small lake is lovely to walk round and it was a real treat having a bar/restaurant on site. The site closes for lunch from 1-3pm and you are not allowed in or out.
