Why stay here ...

Set midway between Tours and Poitiers, this family-run site is situated in the attractive grounds of an 18th Century manor house rich with history, a 11th century church and a medieval castle. It has a calm, laid back atmosphere and spacious grounds across which open, grassy very lasrge pitches are arranged, with some shade from mature trees.

In high season, a local baker visits the site and invites guests to make their own bread with him in a medieval oven. Wine and food tastings are also organised in summer, and there is music on the terrace on some evenings.

Children will enjoy the new Kids Club with mini disco and campfires.

There is plenty in the area to suit a range of interests, including Futuroscope for families and the Brenne Natural Park for nature lovers and bird watchers. To the north, some of the famous Loire châteaux can be reached, while 40 minutes to the south is Poitiers, with its picturesque medieval centre.

Peace and tranquility personified

Le Petit Trianon de St Ustre
Another one of the Castels chain of sites and it doesn’t disappoint. Located in the grounds of a quintessential French château standing in the centre of a traditional sleepy French village makes this site stand out. We were allocated a pitch in front of the Château with one slight disappointment was that the dividing hedge between ourselves and the next pitch had obviously failed and therefore had been removed. Notwithstanding that fact we were more than happy. I have to say overall the site delivered all of our expectations. A couple of minor issues that maybe could be addressed for future relate to the water service points which required a treasure hunt to find them. The main toilet facilities in the converted outbuildings had been refurbished to a high standard, but unfortunately the floors were always awash with water. Although other fields within the site had their independent toilet facilities which were more of a traditional French Campsite standard, people tended to migrate towards the main toilets, which also included the launderette and the only dishwashing facilities on the whole site making them overcrowded at times. Outside the main Château to the front there is a restaurant and terrace, whilst to the rear is the swimming pool, a small mini-golf, children’s play area with inflatable attractions for the younger children. The general demeanour of the site is peace and tranquility in a small village in a rural location (other than the fact that it was disturbed from time to time as site is less than a mile away from the mainline railway line). Overall it delivered on all our expectations, especially the peace and tranquility, and should we be in this area again, and we would have no hesitation in returning

Good stop off

Le Petit Trianon de St Ustre
Stopped on route for one night. Easy to find but be careful on final approach as can be very tight entrance. Use CC directions and don't rely on satnav as one road has very tight 90deg turn into site.

Second visit

Le Petit Trianon de St Ustre
Booked for 9 nights in August without realising we had been before, 10 years ago! Glad we had forgotten as it had changed so much. Site was full all the time, but never felt busy. Large fields with good sized pitches around each. Staff were all friendly and helpful, manager/owner leading by example and had excellent English.  You do have to travel a bit to chateaus etc. but lots within an hour. Flip side is the site is very peaceful. Chatellerault is close enough and would pay more investigation than we gave it. Autoroute is close, but cannot be heard. We had a lovely time and will go back if we are in the area.

2 overnight stays

Le Petit Trianon de St Ustre
Stayed 1 night on way & return.  As others have said the entrance is a bit tight but so long as you're careful it's fine. Lovely site & owners. Showers / toilet Facilities a bit tired but clean enough. Owners lovely & welcoming as is lady who served us to drinks from the bar on terrace. We had pizzas from van which were great. Pitches big - we were lucky to have 1 in front of chateau on way back.  Great little pool which was heated to 29degrees so was like a bath & open until 9.30pm.  All in all a great site we'd go to again.

Peaceful site

Le Petit Trianon de St Ustre
A peaceful site which we used for a 3 night stopover as we headed North to Le Havre. Well spaced out pitches, with water and drainage, this was a very pleasant and quite site. The adjacent restaurant, La Maison Ferme, was a real bonus and is recomended
