First time long stay winter rally - would definitely return

Vilanova Park Winter Holiday
This was the first time I had taken part in a long stay winter rally and I would definitely repeat the experience - what's more, I would return to Vilanova Park. Much of what the other reviewers (to date) have said is true and I would agree with it. However, where I part company with others is in how far any of it spoilt my experience of spending 4 weeks in Spain during the winter. For me, none of it marred the experience. There were quite a few steps from the rally pitches to the toilet block, the descriptions of which are accurate, and then more to get up to the level of the supermarket and bar/restaurant etc. You can walk round a (much) longer way which involves no steps at all. There are a lot of feral cats on site but again, their presence did not bother me and I did not see any cat poo anywhere. I did see a lot of small green (very noisy) parrots and some red squirrels, which were delightful. The bar and restaurant on site were good and the supermarket was excellent, although a bit more expensive than the supermarkets in town, but not overly so. I suppose you pay for the convenience. I didn't have a long waste hose but will get one if I visit again and I also couldn't attach my fresh water hose to the tap and couldn't buy a connector that did fit. However other ralliers were happy to lend me their hoses when I needed to top up my fresh water. The park could make a killing if they sold them in their on site shop! Vilanova is a large town with lots of shops and a great market on Saturdays. The covered market is also there every weekday (I think). Vilanova has a lovely seafront and a good beach and a pretty old town area. Plaza de la Vila is lovely. It is not a typical Spanish resort but I liked it. I didn't eat out in town so I can't say if there are any decent restaurants, but others I spoke to said they had found some. The bus from the park gates into Vilanova was extremely useful and I took it nearly every day. It does take quite a long time to get into town so you have to be patient. I never drove into town so parking wasn't an issue but I know that dogs are not permitted on the bus, so some people found it difficult to get into town without driving. I used the trains up and down the coast to visit Barcelona and Sitges multiple times and also going in the opposite direction to Cubelles and Calafell. Rally hosts Jan and Nigel were great and made me feel very welcome - thanks guys! The events that were organised were varied and fun. There was at least one event every day. I went to the quiz, Finnish skittles, boules, a walk (which was organised by one of the rally members) and a rally meal. I wish I'd joined in more of the events especially the walks as everyone I met was so friendly. For a first time experience, this was excellent, one I definitely want to repeat.

Too many cats for us

Vilanova Park Winter Holiday
We stayed st this site for two weeks and it was not pleasant at all. The.pitch we were allocated was away from the other rally members.and we were told the vacant spaces were already.given to people due to arrive so we could not move. Our pitch.was small.and cramped in what we called cat alley. We had to buy a brush to clear the cat poo on the pitch. The people either side of us were long stay cat lovers who not only fed the cats but provided toys for them in their awnings. My husband not being comfortable around cats and having a little dog just made our stay stressful. We hired a car for a few days and tried to make the best.of things. The hosts Nigel and Jan were lovely. We joined in with the quiz and organised dinner and the food was very good. However we do not rate this site at all.

Very disappointed!

Vilanova Park Winter Holiday
Very disappointed with the site, seems it wasn’t checked out for suitability before taking bookings. No mention of the the stairs involved, in the description of the holiday. 3 flights of steps from rally area to toilet, shower block, disposal point and washing up facility. A further two to get to restaurant and meeting room, making 5 in all. No previous problem with knees, now painful negotiating all the steps. Some pitches very small, roadways narrow and difficult to manoeuvre Because of this some units had to move to another part of the site, not in the rally area. No washing machines near by and ironing facility is a piece of formica in the shape of an ironing board, had to buy ironing board cover, even then most unsatisfactory and difficult to use. There’s a saw mill close to the campsite, on a few days loud noise could be heard. The very large town of Vilanova, extremely busy and extremely difficult to find any parking, either in the road or above ground car park, resorted to underground car park - expensive. We are leaving, cutting short our booking and would definitely not return here

Winter holiday rally

Vilanova Park Winter Holiday
Nice site easy to find , a bit tight to drive around towing a caravan once off the two way roads on the site . The serviced pitches were good .Showers and toilets were good and relatively close to the rally area , There were two short flights of steps on the most direct route but easy road access albeit slightly longer. Good access to the local town either by driving or bus . Bus service to Barcelona was great ,bus stop at site entrance and drop off very close to main Rambla . Site hosts very good and friendly with weekly events , meal, quiz , various games etc . We stayed from 29th Jan to 22nd Feb and would certainly repeat again next year if on .

Winter break

Vilanova Park Winter Holiday
On arriving at site looked nice. but getting on our pitch nice size but the road in between was tight for some people to manoeuvre. Had water and waste on pitch but you need a long waste pipe which we didn’t have and it’s only a little hole to put it in so a lot of people went out to buy new pipe. Toilet block you have to go up the slope then 2 flights of stairs. toilets one door showers another door so for mirror to brush your hair after after shower you have to go back to toilet. You can wash your hands in the toilets but I couldn’t find anything to dry them. This is also the place to empty your elsan. Bar restaurant nice building clean pleasant staff. But you go up a slope quite steep at the end, then you either go up 2 flights of stairs or a long slope. And for the shop pass the restaurant and down 2 flights of stairs but I couldn’t see a slope going down. So from shop back to motorhome up 2 flights of stairs, then up another 2 flights or the slope and then down another slope to get back. And the reception is further on and buses. My husband has a walking stick with arthritis in his hip so he found this very hard and our friends also. Wouldn’t recommend for disabled unless they have a mobility scooter but it means going the long way around. We booked for 2weeks but are now leaving after a week. So wasted our money on this one.
