A spacious, well kept site surrounded by countryside

Ridgeway Farm
We stayed a couple of nights, mainly to meet up with some old friends as I grew up in the next village called Hemingford Grey. The owner - John Saunders - met us on arrival; he was very cheerful and it was very helpful to be shown where everything is: EHU, toilet and waste disposal and fresh water. The site is really spacious with lots of room to spread out on the grass, which is kept short and tidy. There are a few fruit trees along one edge and a small stream on the other side. The site is very dark at night and we enjoyed a couple of star-filled evenings. The site is close to access routes to Cambridge, Huntingdon and the lovely market town of St Ives. We'd booked a table at the Axe and Compass pub in the village, about a 10 minutes walk from the site. The food was good, plenty of choice of beers and wines and everyone was very friendly. From there you can walk through the meadows along the Great Ouse to the next village of Hemingford Grey, with a beautiful church by the river (we were married there almost 40 years ago!) and a pub with an excellent restaurant. Although I know the area well, we hadn't stayed at this CL before but would definitely return when visiting friends again.

Sunny hot weekend

Ridgeway Farm
First time on this CL although we had some knowledge of the locality from a stay at the Houghton Mill campsite when it was operated by the Club. The CL is huge and even with 5 vans on site there is plenty of space and you can pitch well away from your neighbour. There are 5 EHU points arranged around the outside of this well mown grass field., three on one side where there is a line of fruit trees and two on the opposite side. Only the length of your EHU lead will limit where you can pitch. One side of the field is more level than the other, but we had no trouble levelling up on the uneven side using the lie of the land to do so. Wherever you pitch there are open views across the fields and the spire of the Hemingford Abbots church is clearly visible about ¾ of a mile walk away. Here you can get access to the banks of River Great Ouse, visit the local pub, the Axe and Compass and admire the upmarket housing, many of which have thatched roofs. The river side town of St Ives is an easy 3-1/2 mile bike ride away or ¾ mile less if you want to walk the footpath route alongside the river. A 1-3/4 mile walk or bike ride across the Hemingford meadow will take you to Houghton which has a couple of pubs, cafés and a general store along with the National Trust’s watermill and campsite. A great site in a great location in our view.

August 2019

Ridgeway Farm
A pretty site edged by orchards of plums and apples. A pleasant welcome by really nice owners. The field is a great size with no need to be cramped and despite some heavy rain while we were there, there was no sign of flooding. We cycled into St Ives and could have cycled to Huntingdon if time permitted. Hemmingford Abbots is a charming village with a superb old village pub. Definitely worth another visit

Ridgeway Farm
Stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of May 2018. Arrived very late due to traffic issues but owner came out to us and quickly told us everything we needed to know. Mown grass, level site, spacious, neat, tidy and generally well kept. Very easy to access off the A14 (would be excellent for a one night stop over) but this obviously results in traffic noise from this very busy road; it varied depending on weather conditions but wasn't a real problem for us at any time. Plenty to do in the surrounding area, Houghton Mill (NT) an easy walk away with plenty of other well signposted public paths and bridleways to explore. Would look forward to returning to this well run site.

Super site.

Ridgeway Farm
My wife and I have just returned from three nights on Ridgeway Farm. We had an excellent stay there was some noise from the A14 but as we weren't on site during the day we only heard it during the evening and it wasn't too bad. There are excellent walks all around the area, to Houghton Mill, St. Ives and along the river. We are going to return later in the year.
