Enjoyable stay with wonderful views

Slate House Farm
We stayed for three nights 10th - 12th July. We were having our Smart Car converted at TAF Chesterfield to tow behind our motorhome. The site was a bit out of town but still easy to find. If you are going to TAF for the same reason DON'T use a sat nav that route is really narrow in places. The views were stunning. The pitch was level and as you would expect being so open was a little blustery when the wind got up. With the Covid 19 pandemic this was our first trip out after the lockdown. All the precautions were in place notices and hand sanitiser etc. We didn't meet the owners but their system was for ue to leave the money in a envelope and post it in a secure post box on the field. We thought this a very good idea as we could remain in our little bubble. We had a great relaxing time.

We arrived for a short week end break and were not disappointed. Stunning views close the attractions of Derbyshire. Friendly informative owner.Level pitches. Well looked after site. Not much in walking distance so need a car or bike to get about. Basic perfect little CL site. Great value for money.

Beautiful views but that is all !

Slate House Farm
We arrived for a 3 night stay at this cl. On arrival we were the 4th van on the site. The views are stunning over the surrounding countryside and we were very happy with our pitch. However that’s where the good points stop. During our stay it became apparent that the other 3 vans had workmen staying in them. The pitches were over grown underneath. One had 2 extra large gas bottles stood at the front of the van and there was a work van and a car on the pitch. Another van was hooked upto the electric but had no waste carrier or water butts. Again overgrown grass underneath and around the van. The 3rd has a 4 x 4 and a trailer at the side of the van. At around 530 each morning we were woken to the sound of car engines starting - one pulled up alongside the clean water tap the men got out and proceeded to have a wash and clean their teeth at the tap. The vehicles left and didn’t return until late evening 10pm on one of the nights. I am not certain on the rules regarding this but the moving around of vehicles at this time in a morning disturbed our sleep and on this basis we will not be returning.

Away from it all !

Slate House Farm
We pitched up and Mr Poole arrived to welcome us with suggestions of where to eat and where to visit. The location gives great views but is also open to gusty winds so peg your awning down well, luckily it gave way to excellent hot weather and we enjoyed sitting out in the comparative quietness . For food we can recommend the Black Swan in Ashover just a couple of miles away, they do a oap menu Tues to Friday lunchtime 2 course and coffee or tea for £6 pp. The site is a few miles from Matlock and Chatsworth and a few more miles to Bakewell and lots to explore around the area.

What a view

Slate House Farm
Our pitch was well marked and had plenty of room for our long motorhome and borrowed car. The views from this site are long ranging and beautiful so make sure you position your van to make the most of them. We could see Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall in the distance. All the facilities were easy to access, the site was well maintained and signposted. The farm house is at the end of the access road if you need to go there to pay etc. We visited Curbar Edge, Baslow, Chatsworth, Cromford Canal as well as Ashover which is half an hour's walk. It is near the top of the hill so expect some wind. We've already booked in again - it is an excellent CL if you only need minimal facilities.
