Why stay here ...

Crablake Farm is a long established CL site with over 40 years of operation. Open 12 months a year, the site is located in an old orchard offering level grass pitches (all with electric hook ups and WiFi) with plenty of space and open views over our working farm. Indeed at certain times of the year livestock will be in adjacent fields. With that in mind, well behaved dogs are very welcome but must remain on the lead on the site. There is ample walking close by on quiet country lanes.

Whilst on site you will see a good range of wildlife and if lucky you might see Cirl Buntings, a rare bird which we work closely with the RSPB to help. Within easy cycling distance you will also find the RSPB Nature Reserve on the Exe Estuary Marshes. Here you can wander enjoying the scenery and wildlife and also stop of at The Turf Pub located at the end of the Exeter Canal with stunning views over the estuary. The Estuary cycle path is also close by offering level cycling from Dawlish, through to Exeter and onwards to Exmouth.

There are also a number of excellent local Pubs to sample such as The Ley Arms and 7 Stars.

The site is easy to reach from the M5 and we are close to Exeter, the centre of Exeter is approximately 6 miles away. But despite this we are a very quiet and peaceful site with very little passing traffic. Indeed the main noises could well be from our livestock or tractors working in the fields around the site. This location is also perfect for exploring the nearby beaches or venturing up onto Dartmoor and Exmoor.

Lovely site but ........

Crablake Farm
This is a lovely peaceful site and as other reviewers have stated ideally situated for visiting places in the Exter area The reason for the "but" in the title is due to the condition of the Shower and wash-up area which were not really fit for purpose due to swallows that had built their nests in the shower area it was impossible to shower due to the birds getting frightened and flying around in a confined area not that you would want to shower anyway due to the bird droppings in the shower tray and surrounding areas. As we were in a camper van with no facilities we had to leave the site after one night although we were planning on staying for a week. Gerry understood the situation and did say he was trying to keep the area clean but obviously, without removing the birds this was impossible. The toilet was fine. Despite this issue the site is lovely and anyone who has their own facilities will not be disappointed. Date visited 06 July 2024

Loved it here

Crablake Farm
My first positive impressions were borne out by the overall experience over two days. The farm is accessed by a narrow country lane, and therefore nicely tucked away, secluded and peaceful. Its immediate surroundings are lovely. Grass pitches are dotted around among small trees and islands of unmown grass, making for a more natural, less uniform appearance than some manicured sites. Fields with sheep bordered on two sides. You’ll find a Tesco Local and Post Office in Exminster village, a mile or so away. Its one drawback is that the amenities are notably tired. It didn’t bother me at this price point and there’s no doubt the owner would have to charge more if they were modernised. Nevertheless, I’ve reluctantly docked one star as it may be a factor for other people to consider.

Smashing Spot

Crablake Farm
A beautiful countryside spot where you feel miles from nowhere but you are not, so a total win win for us. All the previous reviews cover most things and we cannot disagree with. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the bird life including buzzards over the lovely open view of green meadows and hillside. We found the bus service from Exminster to Exeter very efficient & frequent- takes about 25 mins from village into city centre. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum (free) in Exeter is amazing place to visit. All in all delightful and we did not stay long enough to fully explore all that’s there sadly, so hopefully will return. The lane down from Exminster pass golf course is single lane and narrow but we did manage in our larger motorhome as fortunately not too much traffic and took it slowly.

Gerry you're a star

Crablake Farm
My car (with caravan) broke down on the A38 Exeter by pass and at around 7pm I phoned the farm to see whether they had a space so that the recovery firm could take me there for the night. Gerry was more than welcoming and I eventually arrived at around 11pm - in the dark. Sorry if I disturbed the other campers! The caravan and I left the following morning with a courtesy car to go back to West Sussex while my car went to the garage to be repaired. I was so grateful to everyone concerned for getting me sorted out and especially to Gerry for letting me in at short notice. I would love to come back at a later date and spend more time. Thanks again. Eunice Pearson

Enjoyable stay

Crablake Farm
A pleasant site in an orchard, grass well kept and tidy, but beware of the moles which have created pits! There is a bathroom, but we didn’t use it. It is advertised as £18 a night, but in reality it is £22 with the electricity charge, so budget for that.
