Why stay here ...

Far from the Madding Crowd describes Heatherdown’s position, not only by overlooking one of Thomas Hardy’s valleys, but also by its peaceful and tranquil location. Ravens and buzzards abound by day,  badgers and deer at night. Situated on the edge of the Purbecks, and close to the renown Jurassic Coast (Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are less than 8 miles away) it is the ideal location for visiting Dorset’s well-known attractions. The site is spacious with glorious views, and is situated off a small, quiet country road. There is a local shop two miles away, and a good choice of pubs in the area. There are plenty of places to walk or cycle close by offering forest/heathland areas, or coastal hills. Two stables are available for riders wishing to bring their own horses.

Little Gem

Heatherdown
From booking to arrival everything was easy from Anne's detailed directions to Great views in a tidy well kept site.and Tim's welcome Nice and peaceful with the exception of the occasional tank firing on land across the Road. Nice for trips out we visited Tyneham Village and Lulworth as well as dining in the Royal Oak at Bere Regis. Overall we had a great weekend and this site with its Hospitality and value is definitely on our list of sites to revisit.

Lovely site but no view

Heatherdown
I am finding it a bit difficult to review this site as we have a very good stay, however the disappointment was the lack of a view. When I booked I had read about the great view from the site, which it certainly has, but we didn't get to see it because the hedge was too high, so all we saw was a hedge on one side and trees on the other side. That said it is a good place to stay, with lots of attractions nearby. It is well kept with the disposal point and bin area clean, unfortunately some previous visitors had not picked up after their dog so that limited the choice of pitch, but it is a large enough site and bad dog owners can be found on any site. I did have a little difficulty finding the site, the sign is fairly small, I drove past and had to reverse the caravan, perhaps the owners could list a ///what 3 words address to help. Having said about the negatives there are many positives as well, we enjoyed our stay and would go back, the owners are very welcoming and apart from a bit (little bit) of road noise the site is vey peaceful and quiet.

Excellent stopover

Heatherdown
We stayed overnight at Heatherdown before visiting the Bovington Tank Museum, which is 5 minutes away. This CL is a real find! Booking via phone and email was very easy and we were sent directions and a map to enable us to find the place. The field is mostly level, is surrounded by trees and farmland and access from the road is gated and simple. There is plenty of space and, as the only ones there, we were able to park where we liked, there are no demarcated pitches. Filling and emptying facilities are clean and easy to access. The pitch fee was collected in the evening by Mr Colquhoun who was extremely welcoming and genial. We enjoyed our stay here so much that we returned on our way home, a couple of days later. This CL is definitely recommended and we will certainly return when we are in the area.

Quiet, peaceful, fantastic views, great location away from the maddening crowds and such a friendly welcome; what is there not to like! Non electric so keeps most people away - we just enjoyed the hot bank holiday week with the place to ourselves.
