View and BookLonglands Farm CL is a small family run site within the grounds of our home, right on the edge of Great Leighs village in Essex.
The site offers 5 grass pitches which are very generously spaced, within a private paddock that is surrounded by mature hedgerows. The camping area is well mown, the rest being left as a wildflower meadow. It is tucked away out of sight from our home, and the only visitors will be the wildlife. The adjacent land is occupied by neighbouring farms and a riding stables (who can offer tuition).
At present there are no hookup facilities, but we can offer the use of a small private washroom with toilet and shower. A washing up area is being added and will be available later this season. In addition to the usual service points, we can offer a drive over drain for motorhomes to empty their grey water tank.
An area has been set aside under a large oak tree with a picnic bench on the edge of the meadow.
Our land is adjacent to a woodland nature reserve, and this can be reached within 2 minutes by leaving the site through a pedestrian gate and following the public footpath. Dogs are most welcome, but we ask guests to keep them on leads and well away from our neighbour’s rare breeds.
A five-minute walk is all that is needed to reach the village (on a pavement). There are several Public Houses, the nearest being The Castle. This serves food every day and a great Sunday lunch. It claims to be the oldest recorded Pub in Britain (see Wikipedia). A small post office and village shop is just across the road with essential supplies and fresh fish every Friday and Sunday. There is a bus stop with services to Chelmsford and the surrounding towns.
The surrounding area has much to offer. Chelmsford is a bustling city, with theatre and an ice rink. Coggeshall is nearby, with a beautiful town centre, 2 fabulous National Trust properties and a vineyard. The coast is also within easy reach, with Maldon offering trips on restored Thames barges, and many lovely spots on the river front. Heybridge Basin and Paper Mill Lock are great places to walk along the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation canal. The historic and beautiful towns of Thaxted and Saffron Walden are also within easy reach.
During the day there may be some road noise, and if the wind is blowing in the right direction you can hear the sawmill. However, the birdsong and farm animal “chatter” will be front and centre. The site is very quiet at night.
There is a small 2 bedroom cottage on site that is available for guests to rent if you want to bring additional family members. We also operate an “Approved Workshop” caravan and motorhome servicing and repair business. So, guests can combine a service and a stayover.
We look forward to welcoming you to Longlands.
