Why stay here ...

Longlands Farm CL is a small family run site within the grounds of our home, right on the edge of Great Leighs village in Essex.

The site offers 5 grass pitches which are very generously spaced, within a private paddock that is surrounded by mature hedgerows. The camping area is a level grass area, the rest being left as a wildflower meadow. It is tucked away out of sight from our home, and the only visitors will be the wildlife. Sheep graze in an adjacent area, and the neighbouring farms have an array of animals. A pedestrian gate and footpath leads to the adjacent nature reserve.

Dogs are welcome, but in the interests of the livestock it is a condition of your stay that they are kept on a lead.

Hookup facilities are being installed (January 2024) and we expect them to be ready for visitors in Spring 24. There is a small private washroom with toilet, shower and washing up area. In addition to the usual service points, we can offer a drive over drain for motorhomes to empty their grey water tank.

An area has been set aside under a large oak tree with a picnic bench on the edge of the meadow. We are installing a BBQ and fire pit area during the 2024 season, along with some hardstanding.

A five-minute walk is all that is needed to reach the village (on a pavement). There are several Public Houses, the nearest being The Castle. This serves food every day and a great Sunday lunch. It claims to be the oldest recorded Pub in Britain (see Wikipedia). A small post office and village shop is just across the road with essential supplies and fresh fish every Friday and Sunday. There is a bus stop with services to Chelmsford and the surrounding towns.

The surrounding area has much to offer. Chelmsford is a bustling city, with theatre and an ice rink. Coggeshall is nearby, with a beautiful town centre, 2 fabulous National Trust properties and a vineyard. The coast is also within easy reach, with Maldon offering trips on restored Thames barges, and many lovely spots on the river front. Heybridge Basin and Paper Mill Lock are great places to walk along the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation canal. The historic and beautiful towns of Thaxted and Saffron Walden are also within easy reach.

The site is dark and quiet at night, and the whole sky is visible from the camping field making star gazing a popular pastime.

There is a small 2 bedroom cottage on site that is available for guests to rent if you want to bring additional family members. We also operate an “Approved Workshop” caravan and motorhome servicing and repair business. So, guests can combine a service and a stayover.

We look forward to welcoming you to Longlands.

Excellent rural site

Longlands Farm
Idyllic rural site yet near to both the city of Chelmsford and Braintree; within easy walking distance of 2 village pubs serving hot food; plentiful space between pitches which are situated in a large open paddock (much of which was being utilised for grazing 2 sheep but giving the sense of being totally uncrowded). Owners (Sarah & Glyn) very friendly and most helpful. Would definitely visit again.

Well worth a visit!

Longlands Farm
We live very locally and I noticed Longlands Farm's CAMC CL sign whilst riding past on my bike. A bit of web research showed that Glyn and Sara are also the proprietors of Tourer Care so it made sense to ask them to service our caravan and also stay for a couple of nights on their CL. Suffice to say the van service was carried out to a very high standard and we really enjoyed our weekend despite being less than 7 miles from home and only 1.5 miles from where we store our caravan! On Saturday we had a lovely walk then a long lunch at The Square & Compasses, Fuller Street. Then a leisurely Sunday morning before packing up to embark on the long journey home! The welcome we received from Sara and Glyn was excellent so we'd heartily recommend both Longlands Farm CL and Tourer Care.
