Why stay here ...

A lovely well kept CL for adults only on a small 13 acre farm in the centre of the Isle of Wight with far reaching countryside views. Our land is all grass and we have two pet sheep which are kept in a small paddock.

The site itself is lawned, looks level but there is a very slight incline. It has electric hook-ups, purpose built chemical emptying points and battery charging if required. There is plenty of space for awnings. Access to the CL is good and the land is well compacted sandy free draining soil so we have no problems with flooding.

The site is a perfect central base for touring the Island and we are within easy reach of all the Island towns, beaches and other attractions. The main town of Newport with many supermarkets is 4 miles from us. There is a local shop within 2 miles. The quintessential English village of Godshill with its delightful medieval church and a winding main street lined with tearooms and restaurants is only 2.5 miles away. Guests may also be interested to visit the award winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Havenstreet which is around 5 miles from the site. Osborne House at East Cowes a residence of Queen Victoria with its very own private beach (now open to the public in 2012) is 7.5 miles from the site.

There are local course fishing lakes (within a mile), and the main Cowes to Sandown (via Newport) cycle track is just a few yards up the lane. This is an easy ride being a properly surfaced former railway line. There are plenty more challenging rides around the island should you wish and of course endless scope for enjoying countryside walks direct from the site.

There is a frequent bus service in the village.

We regret that no dogs are allowed.

Easy to get to lots of places.

We stayed here in September and found a well run CL. Easy to get to even with our large caravan, roads are wide enough for buses, so plenty big enough, last 100 yards are slightly narrower but only saw a couple of vehicles using it during the stay. Got a number of leaflets from Barbara, chosen to our particular interests. Shown to our pitch and was impressed with the way that Barbara looks after the site. Buses are a short walk away in the village and go to Newport or Shanklin. From Newport you can get a bus to most of the Island. There is cycle way/ footpath into Newport, level and easy walk. Would we go back? Yes please.

No chocks needed

What a lovely site and a very warm welcome by Mrs Watts. The site is grassy and, I would say, level. We didn’t need to use chocks when levelling although it does state in the book they are required. The site is really close to the Red Squirrel Cycle Trail and as the island is so small, within easy reach of all the attractions. Merstone is pretty well centre of the island and the site is just off the main route through to Sandown. The site is well kept and clean, especially the rubbish and chemical disposal area. The pitch sizes are generous with plenty of room for the awning and car. The 2 nice days we had in the week we were there we covered the whole of the Red Squirrel Trail. A shame the weather was so bad but out of everyone’s control!! Would definitely use this site if going to the Isle of Wight again.

A Fantastic Site !

Set in beautiful peaceful countryside with marvellous views and yet only 20 minutes drive to the coast. The village of Godshill is a very pleasant two mile walk away. The site is immaculately maintained with short grass and a clean and discreet elsan point. The caravan field is on a gentle slope surrounded by mature hedging making it very private. There is plenty of room and space between each caravan. The owners Barbara and Arnold are extremely nice people and very welcoming. This is certainly the best CL site that we have stayed on. If you like peace and quiet with the added bonus of no children and dogs then this is a perfect site for you

Best on the island

We stayed here for two weeks in July this year; and boy what a lovely site this is, we arrived at exactly midday, but the grass had not been cut after the previous caravan had left,as Arnold had gone out for fuel for the mower,so we parked in the middle of the site then we were offered a cup of tea by another caravaner, so we sat there while Arnold got our pitch ready for us.We then settled in for a good holiday. We enjoyed this site so much ,that before we left we booked a three week stay for next year, looking forward to it.

Great CL

I can only repeat what others have said; this is a wonderful site. Immaculately maintained with a relaxing atmosphere. The only noise is the odd tractor or horse rider passing and good views across the countryside. Central for visiting the rest of the Isle of Wight and we were made welcome by Arnold and Barbara Watts. If you're looking for somewhere to stay on the Island, look no further.
