Why stay here ...

CL of the Year Awards 2016 - 2nd Place

Payment in full on arrival please.

Port Arthur Farm is a quiet and friendly family run CL site surrounded by several villages amidst some of the area's most beautiful countryside. Our Site mainly comprises of a meticulously maintained level field with a choice of grass or hard standing pitches, all in excess of 1.5 acres. We are open all year round and because of the sheer size of the site and variety of pitches, we can accommodate all set-ups throughout the changing seasons and in any extremes of weather, there's no boggy pitches here!

Our Site offers a brand new purpose built heated washroom (November 2015) incorporating a large shower room with w.c. and wash hand basin, another separate wc, a sink/drainer with hot water facility and a useful information area.

The location of the CL Site within our Farm was purposely chosen to optimise views of the countryside and all pitches offer pretty much round the clock sunshine (mother nature permitting!). The new washroom is directly on the site in a lovely elevated position boasting a fantastic decked area giving Campers a great viewing point over the Site.

For the keen cyclists and ramblers we are perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding networks of walk and cycle routes; nearby Nidd Gorge has recently been linked from Knaresborough to Harrogate then onto Ripley. Knaresborough is a mere 2.3 miles away with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants, a weekly market, The Castle and Grounds and much more. Harrogate is around 5 miles down the road offering endless shops and an abundance of restaurants, not forgetting Bettys Famous Tearooms, The Great Yorkshire Showground, RHS Harlow Carr Gardens and much more. Nearby places of interest are Ripon, Boroughbridge, Otley, Leeds, Wetherby, Skipton - the list goes on and on. Closer to home, just about a mile away, is Scotton Village which boasts an excellent Pub, the Guy Fawkes Arms, which offers outstanding food (booking recommended) and fine ales . . .  so if you fancy a few drinks and a great meal in good local company, it's just a short walk from us.

Approached by its own private gated entrance and access road making your ins and outs stress free and your set-up safe, Port Arthur Farm CL is an ideal site for Caravanners and Motorhomers alike. It's the perfect place to stay whether you want to kick back and relax or get busy and explore what the area has to offer.

We think you will thoroughly enjoy your stay at Port Arthur Farm and guarantee a warm welcome from all the family (including our feathered friends!).

Port Arthur Farm

Lovely welcome very helpful owner site was very wet on the grass I think in the summer it will be a very good site very poor mobile phone service even on EE and no WiFi but TV reception was OK the toilets and the shower room where very clean no that I use them the only drawer back on the site is the elsan emptying point is up five steps witch made it difficult for any one with mobility issues as my self and my Fred's that also stayed on the sit with us mabe a shallow ramp or the elsan point moved to ground level otherwise it was very pleasant stay.

Lovely little site, even in January

Port Arthur Farm
We've just spent nine nights here, using it as a base to explore Knaresborough, Harrogate, Ripon etc. The site has a wide entrance, with no difficulty entering it from either direction (Kia Sorento and Elddis 840 combination for us). We arrived the day after torrential rain and there was a lot of flooding, so we only had two viable pitches available, on the hardstanding at the top of the site. These are the closest to all the facilities but would be on the thoroughfare to the facilities for campers on all the other pitches, so if you like privacy the lower pitches would be better, when not flooded. The site is level, spotless, well-maintained and quite secluded; it's overlooked by some houses but is away from the road and it's a quiet road anyway. The nearby school was the only noise we heard. Facilities are a wooden building containing a washing up sink, WC, and a separate WC and shower room. The block is heated just enough to take the January chill away. The shower is electric (and not metered) and is spacious, but as with many electric showers it's not particularly powerful, but it's hot. The washing up facilities suffer the same problem, it's an over-sink heater which I'm speculating is only 2Kw or 3Kw, so by the time your bowl is full the water has gone cold. We ended up washing up in the caravan. But it's a handy facility to have, and everything was immaculate. Also - and this may be a factor in my comments above - water pressure to the whole site seems very low. It takes around eight minutes to fill a standard Aquaroll; start this filling as soon as you arrive on site and then get your caravan level and the elctrics sorted, and it might be full by then. EHU is very good, with no issues when we had multiple cooking devices in use; admittedly we had the site to ourselves though. There are on-site recycling facilities for glass and plastic bottles, but not for other plastics so we took all our plastic food trays etc back home to Scotland to recycle there. Internet coverage isn't good. Both Vodafone and EE were struggling to get one bar of 4G, even with an external router antenna on the caravan roof; we didn't have O2 or Three to try with. Large Morrison's about 10 minutes away (Harrogate), and many other large and small shops all within easy driving distance. Guy Fawke's Arms is a 15 minute walk away, either along the road or via an old (muddy) track, and is really excellent - we went for Sunday lunch and it was rammed, with people waiting for tables, so make sure you book. Knaresborough Market on a Wednesday is worth a visit; small but some nice cheeses and veg available. Overall it's a very nice site, very clean and well loved, and the facilities are very handy to have.

Fabulous place near a great market town!

Port Arthur Farm
We stayed in our campervan in January. The site is fairly remote and is lovely and peaceful and yet, just a mile to walk into the village of Scotton. We had dinner at the pub restaurant which was fabulous. The next morning, we took a leisurely walk with the dog through Nidd Gorge and along the river into Knaresborough. A lovely market town with shops, pubs and restaurants. Will definitely be back, thank you! :)

Exactly what a CL should offer, with toilet & shower as nice extra!

Port Arthur Farm
Stayed for 4 nights in our motorhome in January. Good access roads to site from Knaresborough. Hard standing pitches well spaced and maintained. The grass was not in use at the time we visited but looked well cared for and level. The toilets and shower facilities are an excellent addition and well maintained. Graham caught up with us one day, a lovely man, busy running the site and holiday cottages. Easy walk to Scotton, with its local pub, though was shut the day we passed. We carried on into Knaresborough or you could walk direct from the site, about 2.5 miles. Bus stop is close, near the school, to Knaresborough. Ideally situated as a base to visit the area. The Knaresborough Round footpath passes close to the site and lots of other footpaths are nearby. Very quiet site and I should think in the summer lovely to sit outside your unit. At the time of visit £23 including 16A EHU. We will return, as there is a lot to do in and around the area and our stay was not long to experience it all.

A lovely stay despite the weather!

Port Arthur Farm
Follow instructions carefully and don't rely on satnav! A lovely easy entrance with a choice of pitches. We sited ourselves on the hard standing near the far gate as the field was soggy with so much recent rain. Graham did come to see us and check we were OK, he was around from time to time and good to chat to. Lovely facilities offering a free shower room and separate loo. Great to see and hear the wildlife, especially the squirrels and wild birds. Easy access to Knaresborough and Harrogate. A fabulous visit to Brimham Rocks and Fountain Abbey (went to 3 times!) Within walking distance, about 1mile away, The Guy Fawkes Arms which did the most AMAZING Sunday lunch!! Altogether, a lovely well kept, quiet site.
