Why stay here ...

Chillingham Barns Caravan Site sits in the Heart of the North Northumberland countryside. Set on a farm between the rolling Cheviot Hills and breathtaking Northumbrian coast, it is rural, tranquil and peaceful.

Our site is a flat and spacious lawned area with easy, wide access, electric hook up and ample space for awnings. Adults, children and pets are welcome, and we have a short woodland path that all our visitors are more then welcome to use.

Chillingham Barns, although rural, is in easy reach of local amenities – Chatton village with a local pub and shop is approximately a mile away, and Wooler and Belford both six miles away. The area is popular with hill, moor and coastal walkers with the site itself a mile from the iron age hill fort of Ros Castle and Chatton Sandyford moor beyond, well known for its many public footpaths and historic Neolithic cup and ring carvings and stunning scenery.

The site is also perfectly situated to explore the local attractions. The historic market town of Alnwick, The Alnwick Garden and Castle are nearby as is the coast with its many castles such as Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Warkworth to name but a few. The Holy island of Lindisfarne is also a popular spot with visitors not far away. There are also coasteering, kayaking and windsurfing activities run throughout the summer on the coast. Closer to home, Chillingham Castle and the famous wild cattle park is also only five minute walk from our site, and Chatton Fishery a couple of miles down the road. We are also near to Rothbury and the Northumberland National Park, thirty minutes drive from the Scottish Borders and within an hour of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall.

So if you are after a peaceful getaway or a base to adventure and explore Northumberland, Chillingham Barns is your ideal spot.

Lovely site in an amazing part of the country

Chillingham Barns
We stayed on this site for 8 nights in July/August 2024. The site is flat, spacious and very well laid out. There is a shed in the corner of the site with loads of information leaflets for the surrounding area and jams and chutneys for sale made by the owners mother. The rhubarb and ginger jam is delightful. The only negative is there is noise from farm machinery, but hey what can you expect it is a working farm. We used the site as a base to visit Alnwick, Morpeth, Craster and Bamburgh to name a few, all delightful towns. We went to Morpeth on market day and spent a long time browsing the market [which isn't huge but has craft stalls and local food stalls] and the shops, a good mix of local and chains. Such a change from some areas of the country where the towns are looking really run down, these towns are lovely. We also visited Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle. Will definitely be returning at some point in the future.

Just what we love and enjoy when touring in our caravan. Level grass site, 16amp electric, drinking water and chemical disposal, quiet location, near to places of interest, lovely area for walking, definite for a return stay.

a quiet getaway

Chillingham Barns
We stayed a week at this quiet site where on a night the only sound was the owl. and we loved it. The field was well spaced out between caravans 4 with lovely views the other one was further back in the field, still with views of the hills and a hard standing. The facility area was clean and easily accessible. The Information hut contained lots of local information as well as books and DVDs if wanted. Plenty of places within driving distance to visit, such as Alwick where there is a castle, garden and a massive bookshop with cafe in an old railway station, nice on a rainy day.

Lovely peaceful site

Chillingham Barns
We stayed here for the August bank holiday weekend. The site was well maintained set in a very quiet area, ample room for 5 units. Fresh eggs and preserves available on site. Great site to discover the beautiful places in Northumberland.

Nice surprise

Chillingham Barns
We were worried about access and arriving at this site but shouldn’t have been, it was very simple. Nicely kept site. No facilities but didn’t matter we used our own. Ami very friendly and willing to chat. Downside was contract machinery speeding past the site practically all day and particularly very early morning which wasn’t a pleasant wake up call when your on holiday. Lovely jams, chutneys etc in info hut, sadly never saw any eggs. Great pub in the village which is about a steady half hour walk but seems longer coming back after a few drinks!
